      Are you holing the flute in the correct way. The hole should be facing the roof, that is upward. I have given one example in the video of blowing in a pen lid. Some people tilt the flute towards the mouth. Then so much air will get wasted. Sit straight? Inhale full lungs air etc. And keep trying without giving up. It may click any second. That is the magic. Think and see whether everything is alright. check everything again and again. Then it is bound to yield result. It seems you have learned the song and succeeded in playing it as well . Only this small problem? I wish you good luck. God bless you .

      Carnatic flute pitch 4 is beginners flute. After sometime you can switch to 3 pitch and 2.5 pitch. Generally pitch 3 and 2.5 are mainly used by the flutists.Pitch 2 and below would be very lengthy and the diameter would be also big in size. You need to fill the full space with air to get good sound.But some flutists can easily play in all pitches. Very high pitched and very low pitched flutes have some disadvantages for some people. I am giving one link below. Watch that video, it will help you understand better.
      Before ordering your flute, go through this video. After watching that video, you order your flute. if you get any doubt message me. I will clear it.

    • @learnflute-bhoomaparthasarathi
      @learnflute-bhoomaparthasarathi  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If you are not able to remember them . That is o.k You just need to hear tham for Kelvi njanam. and practice them for fluency in the fingers. Remembering Sarali varisai and all are not that important. The pitch of each note should internalise with you . That is the purpose of the basic lessons. Not for remembering them . By doing so many basic exercises we will recognise all the seven notes. So try to memorise. If you can not . No problem .You please buy a 8 holed carnatic flute of pitch 3.Watch every tutorial a few times. Then pause each line and practice. Practicing with the notes in front of you will not help you much. Because notations do not convey bhava and you do not know where to compress the notes and where to drag them.If you play each line and pause and practice, if you make any mis note you will immediately recognise. You will gradually grasp the taps, slides, stresses without consciously paying attention to.

      1)There is a chance, that the flute has an invisible, very mild crack, could have developed due to accidentally hit in to something.
      2) Are you closing the holes firmly?
      3)Adjust the position of your lip.

      Full air should not go into the hole. The air escapes and the air travel inside the flute both are responsible for the sound the flute produces
      This kind of struggles in the beginning stage is not uncommon.Just watch the videos and just try. watch more.
      Too much thinking should be avoided. Unlike string instruments, the pitch is controlled by blowing only.Each note for example S's pitch is different from R,We need to understand that. It will take time. The lower S, requires, less force, the higher more. Till you start plying them correctly, you will not get clear sound.
      Apart from tutorials I have made very very important videos. Watch them all.Do not worry too much. Just act. That is what is needed in the initial stage..

      Krishna Ram main flute maker 94434 54322.
      I bought all my flutes from a musical instrumental shop in
      Thiruvananthapuram near Swathi thirunal music college.
      I do the tutorials in 8 holed carnatic flute of pitch 3. In tamil it is called 3 kattai. The flute has 8 holes on the playing side and one hole for blowing. Total 9 holes.

    Hello again Mam, My question is also in the hissing sound. I checked the flute and finger closing - they are fine. I actually get the right swaras from sa to ni (when i check using carnatic tuner apps). Problem is along with those swaras, I also hear the air, its just not coming out clean. Im practicing for a week now, around 1.5 hours every day. How to make a smaller lip hole and blow air with more focus into the flute mam? Your thoughts please..

    • @learnflute-bhoomaparthasarathi
      @learnflute-bhoomaparthasarathi  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am very happy to know that you practice daily . Since flute has only one set of notes, beginners take a long time in the beginning You can play the lower notes in string instruments in at least two places. Higher notes have clearly different places.Players just have to put their hands in the correct places and play. The correct sound will come. In flute, you have to manipulate everything through blowing. Even for each swara the force of air is different. So be patient. If the flute is a good one, the difficulties will go soon. You just continue with your practice. If it does not improve, you buy a new flute from a flute maker. The very small differences in the flute's holes sizes, places make a difference.

      @@learnflute-bhoomaparthasarathiThanks mam. If my sa, re, ga and ma are clear can i assume my blowing is fine? Because its from pa the hissing becomes too much and to minimize it i play quite loud too. Already one neighbor complained :) Is this normal?

      @learnflute-bhoomaparthasarathi  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Only one thing I can say. Getting a perfect flute is difficult. I found a very good flute maker and I went to him in person and bought excellent flutes . Checked them .Perfect ones.But it will take time for me to adjust to them.For me the holes are little bigger. So I called him and ordered another set of flutes. Making a perfect flute with smaller holes with perfect pitch is a challenge for the flute maker.I have stopped playing from my early twenties till my 62nd year. So extra difficulties.My fingers are stiff.The flutes length can not be changed at all. But diameter and holes sizes can be slightly changed, if the flute maker is an excellent one.Now I have dozens of flutes.I am yet to get a very satisfied one. In the meanwhile I am practicing these super perfect flutes, with bigger holes.The sound is getting better also.
      So if you are very sure about the flute's quality, you just practice. Then after some time you will understand whether to buy a new one or not. I have some issues like spondilitis, old age etc. So it is difficult for me to find out the problem. You can figure out comparitively easy.Have a great day

I was not expecting that set back. My notebooks which were very old ,were in the powdered state. Just persistence helped me. Not only that we lived in a very small town those days. Nothing was there to motivate. Nowadays internet is helping us with TH-cam .We can watch a particular song by vocal, flute, veena, violen by various artists. Only because of the technology development I could improve my music. You also can definitely do that.

And some people can not afford to pay.So I teach from the basic, in a simple way. I do the tutorials in english in the hope of spreading our wonderful music all over .

That will help you decide which pitch you should buy now. You may have to use a high pitched flute now and then after experience you will be able to play in a low pitched flute. Flutes are non expensive instruments compared to string instruments. So in case if you now want to buy a 4 pitch for playing convenience, you can switch later . It will not be a problem.

      I tried to do the videos in tamil and uploaded some 8 videos. Out of that
      8 videos one was a detailed tutorial for the tamil beginners explaining them in detail, how to hold a flute and how to play S, R etc and how to start playing flute. All the 8 eight videos including that important key video received very low views. So I stopped that and continued in english. Now I have many many Telugu, kannada, hindi and Malayalam viewers. So I would like to continue in english only. If only the viewers have shared my videos and gave support, I would have continued. After all my mother tongue is tamil and I know more tamil songs. But I did not get support from the viewers. When we find one good channel, we must support it. How can I now change ?

      I live in Trivandrum Kerala. And please understand I do not conduct personnel classes. But I am daily asked by many viewers to take personnel classes. I used to reply them saying that they do not need to spend money and they can learn from the comfort of their own houses in their convenient time from my videos. And I generally write the order of videos to be watched. So I made this video, so that I can reply the viewers to watch this video and follow the videos suggested in it. If you follow all the videos you can really self learn. All you need to do is to understand that you can self learn. Watch the tutorials many times and original songs also many times. If you hear more and more, your hearing knowledge ( we call it "Kelvi Njanam " . The knowledge acquired by hearing. It is easy to acquire. You can hear while doing some other work like combing the hair, brushing the teeth, house cleaning, cutting vegetables, cooking etc)
      All you have to do is watch all the videos many times. Hearing is very very important. So before writing down the notes and before start practicing, watch the tutorials many times and you will be amazed about your progress. I am giving my mobile number . If you have any doubts you can call me. 9567600487
      The link I am giving below is in the title, " A complete guide for flute beginners. watch all the videos suggested in it.
      th-cam.com/video/II0y447WTXo/w-d-xo.html
      By this technique, you can spend more time. You can rewind and watch the phrases which you need extra attention. Thank you so much
