The only way they can top this is that they somehow make an uber-large flying fortress that one could fly into, then make a required tunnel run section out of it to destroy it from the inside, Death Star-style. I'm thinking about that one mission in the classic game Star Wars: Rebel Assault II where the protagonists try to escape a Super Star Destroyer inside an enemy prototype fighter by flying through the entire ship avoiding obstacles, and in the process, they destroy the entire thing from the inside as they make their escape. Something like that in Ace Combat would be freaking awesome. :)

Yes its partialy PAs fault for making AH as it was, while i wont disagree that there where certainly certain elements that where required to be put in by the publisher, a lot of AH problems was poor execution of ideas. also "stupid for being exclusive" EVERY ACE COMBAT GAME PRIOR TO 7 WAS AN CONSOLE EXCLUSIVE. the Problem lied with it being Xbox 360 exclusive(a console NOONE in japan owned almost) but the thing is, it not unlikely that whatever they wanted do to in 6 was just damm hard to pull off on the PS3 because of that stupid cell processor. so i can imagine that the thought was "we either water this down, to get it to work on there, becaus enoone here has a fucking clue how to get it to run, or we make it for the 360 instead"
It mainly gets hard when you try and avoid using missiles, atleast for me. But I also have this extremely annoying controller drift so I can't aim as well.

I think the reason is did so well WAS because it was a single player focused jet game with a solid lobby based multiplayer. No matchmaking needed, no loot boxes. @@SiphonRayzar I'm not very familiar with AC6 so I wasn't able to do it for it. But I think it was "A civilian account and a veteran's account of the war."
As someone who had zero experience with the AC series before playing 7, I can definitely say I had no idea what was going on outside of "good guy nation attacked by bad guy nation and then beats them, followed by stopping a plot by the pilot illuminati to make drone fighters take over the world." Despite that and the fact that I do prefer realistic flight models in games, I really enjoyed my playthrough. I also knew the guy beforehand who did the english briefings for mage squadron; that was a trip lol
I never played an AC until AC7. I loved every bit of it. Sure, the stuff like "WTF is Erusea?" "What's the difference between Usea and Osea" plagued me at first, but I dived into it, and got hooked. The music in particular caught my ear.
@@Night4fingers I think the three you should prioritize are AC 4, AC Zero, and AC 5. Which is referred to as the holy trinity of AC games. And if you like the sound track in AC 7 you’ll definitely like them in these three.
me too, Knowing that Nagase was the Captain of Pilgrim 1..... It's funny how she is in most of the AC games. One game she was a rebel, another in a rookie squadron, another in War Dog/Ragriz Squadron and appeared as a sexy skin in her bathingsuit on an aircraft in AC:AH.
@@vexingrabbit1824 Different Nagases though. Nagase from AC5 and AC7 is the same person. But all the others are different characters, with similar appearances and the same name. Think the nurse or cop in Pokemon, except not related by blood.

@@justsomeguywithlasereyes9920 That's a cool plane, but personally I'd prefer the F-15SE Silent Eagle. We will most definitely get playable versions of the F-117A Nighthawk and AV-8B Harrier II since those are already in the game as NPC aircraft. They'll probably be released individually with some classic skins like they did with the F-4E Phantom II DLC.
@@Aurik-Kal-Durin I want an F-15 That can PSM, I mean the Russian side has what, 2 more Planes that can PSM than the US side? I think It's not unreasonable to ask for.
@@justsomeguywithlasereyes9920 They could just make it so that all planes can PSM. Personally I don't care if it's unrealistic; this game already has a space elevator, advanced AI-controlled drone fighters, giant UAV aircraft carriers with force fields, and laser weapons.
I loved 7's return to strangereal. The story did indeed, in the larger picture, make sense. However, I felt they couldn't decide on how to tell the story, AC4, AC5 or ACZ style, and just decided to do them all at once. This makes for overall weaker storytelling that was all over the place. I never felt any connection with my wingmen- if anything, I actually disliked Count by the end of the game, and after 5 replays on different difficulties, I still don't. Spends half the game being an ass and then suddenly because he followed me into the tunnel(For no reason or added benefit) I'm supposed to like him? It was also a bit on the short side. The music was once again amazing and I still listen to a lot of the tracks regularly. Here's hoping they take AC7 and improve upon the good parts and get a more coherent storytelling style back for 8!
I think they tried really hard to emulate AC5 with AC7, the whole you play as part of a squadron that is viewed as suspect and given a lot of shit for nothing was all rendered from AC5, the replaced Pop and Heartbrake 1 with new characters even if one is no longer on your side. And both accompanied you throughout almost the whole game, Pops more so but they remained relevant as did your squadron. And when you lost Choper you gained Swordsman who was the polar opposite of Choper but unique in his own way. That's where & deviates and not in a good way, and AC6 was a step back to just a wingman which AC7 is how you pretty much finish the game and I would have much rather had either Pixy or PJ instead of the dick they gave me, even here you find character similarities between those two and the squadron in the begining of AC7 like they tried to reboot a lot of past characters that I enjoyed yet with AC7 that familiarity with them just wasn't there. I still have AC AC2 AC3 AC4 AC5 and ACZ and enjoy jumping in and running through the campaigns AC4 AC5 and ACZ mostly. My favorite part is probably the end of ACG where the Yuktobanians Fly with you instead of against you while that epic ass song is sung and can't help joining the other pilots singing it as we fly to the mission start, not to mention orkanyaba "that would mean sky eye in your language" (the Yuk AWACS) was a lot friendlier lol.
14:00 I would like to point out, she is your mechanic only during the convict part, which is when Trigger is flying shittier planes that cant handle his skill. So she IS needed during that part of the story to keep trigger going. When she is not around (first and last arcs of the story) Trigger is properly part of the military and has access to decent planes and repair crews.
The problem with this is it doesn't require elaborate back story about her flying her jet illegally and getting shot down. That's where the issue is drawn. Why explain that she's a pilot, if she never flies again?
@@jamielonsdale3018 I think it was for a theme of having your wings clipped. She was young and cause a war with drones kicked off she was shot down and crippled, aka the bum leg, leaving he unable to pilot a plane again. The drones got its flying stlye from a legendary ace whose only goal was to fly again, and at the end of it he too lost his wings. Since the game was delayed so many times I feel there was supposed to more plot and cutscenes that were cut from the final game.
@@jamielonsdale3018 Because she IS NOT a pilot actually. She is just a mechanic that built a plane with her fam and friends the flew it once. It was more of a hobby that a profession.
@DA Official No, those DLC are free. Remember, this game nearly didn't get made at all. Project Aces actually scrapped AC7 when it was 2/3 done and started again from scratch. Besides, when you can do shit like this in the game th-cam.com/video/N3LBPQm-_NQ/w-d-xo.html I really don't mind the delays and stuff. They already gave this game months of replayability by introducing PSMs, and the way they implemented PSMs allows you to stretch that mechanic far beyond its intended scope. The fact you're not on rails like in DFM only serves to increase the fun factor of pulling off crazy manoeuvres.
Hey, love the video. You covered a lot of my feelings. I love this game, and being a member of this community has been a revitalizing experience for me, one that I'm very grateful for. I do want to clarify the story complaints about whether it makes sense, however. The narrative throughline is fine and makes sense on a surface level, but the details that bridge one event to another are what make no sense. For example: We are told that the Radicals are consolidating all of their milliary power around the ISEV. This is the most strategically valuable place ON THE PLANET. Dozens of planes are rallying to defend it. We know that the Radicals are violently oppressive, having executed civilians on Tyler Island. So how does a fishing boat full of refugees make it through all the military forces that are undoubtedly congregating there, disarm them all without casualties, and run a pirate broadcast for twenty minutes without meeting any resistance? They did what Sea Goblin couldn't, breaching the space elevator without any losses? It sounds like Osea should hire Special Agent Rosa and Operator Avril to train their special forces. Other issues: Why did the Arsenal Bird facehump Stonehenge when we know it can snipe with airburst nukes? This was a MAJOR plot turning point, but this decision on the part of Erusea made no sense. If you know your enemy is building a weapon to take you out, why reduce distance? Weird things just *happen* to advance the plot, and I don't think the writer spent much time thinking through the consequences of certain decisions before moving on. Part of me wants to say it was story rewrites, and there's a TON of things I know that I can't get into in a single TH-cam comment. But at its core, I don't think the writer cared too much about consistency. Which is fine, the gameplay more than makes up for it. I love this game. I love it to death. Anyone who knows me or what I do can tell you that. But I can't admit its narrative is anything but broken.
In regards to stonehenge, doesn't it have an extremely long distance? It was built for taking out meteors and we see in AC4 that it's pretty deadly at destroying aircraft from afar. I thought there was no safe distance the arsenal bird could escape to so it closed in on its location to destroy the last remaining gun.
@@SnicketySlice Travel time matters. If a sniper is trying to hit a target at 100 meters, varying your running speed isn't going to help the target very much. If they're trying to hit that target at two kilometers, varying movement will make that single shot nearly impossible. Now jack this up to 5000 kilometers, and it would be effectively impossible to hit as long as the target is varying speed and altitude at varying intervals. For the Arsenal Bird to go to Stonehenge, it's the same thing as closing within handgun distance of your armed target when you've got a sniper rifle.
Project Aces did have to restart development from scratch at one point and had to scramble to get the game done on time, so it wouldn’t surprise if there were rewrites. Part of me thinks they were two conflicting narrative themes between the “Dirty Dozen” convict crew vibe with Spare Squadron and the rise of unmanned warfare with the drones that they ended up mashing together due to lack of time. Hence why the narrative seemed disjointed at times.
Before Halo MCC with Reach came out and MW 2019, it had been so long since I finished and had fun with a game that didnt follow trends. Thank god for AC7
Yeah there was so many characters to keep track of. Score based missions aren't my thing either, and I miss commanding the squadron and changing their planes. But I loved AC7 so much. The mountain pass mission was great
Hobby flyer here.... Not exactly.... There are certain limitations but when it comes small craft of the single engine. prop-variety, you can take of and fly around in a limited airspace. Did that myself a couple times, usually when just doing my circles around my airfield. It is however a risk, not because you might be identified as a threat but rather if you have an emergancy, your local Info-station wont be able to accuratly advice rescue services to your location.
I fly gliders in the US. The only electronics I flew with were in my pockets, or a hand-held radio. No transponder. And I can fly all the way up to 17,999ft in 85% of the country without talking to anyone. Anything above requires ATC coordination (because airliners), 10% requires just being given an OK by ATC, and the last 5% is restricted airspace (i.e. Area 51)
In the U.S. at least you only need to squawk in controlled airspace. Fly out of a rural airstrip, stay out of class B/C airspace, and stay under 10,000 MSL or 2,500 AGL (whichever is higher), your bush plane doesn't even need to have a transponder, let alone turn it on. (Obviously you have to stay out of class A airspace, but the height limits keep you out of that anyway unless you're flying over high mountains in Alaska, in which case you have to stay under 1,500 AGL)
@@RealGracefulGoose Right, this was more of a response to the OP who said that "flying without a transponder is pretty much illegal everywhere", when it's actually legal over the majority of the planet, including the majority of U.S. airspace.
This was actually my first dive into Ace combat. I've always been a fan of flying games. From star fox on the N-64, to strike suit Zero and even the old star wars battlefront 2 space battles. But this game was an absolute blast. I actually really enjoyed the story and I will agree, Everything made perfect sense. Even the countries and how everything worked. The thing that would throw me for a loop was the tech, I came in expecting a modern world. But was met with an amazing slight sci-fi world that kept throwing new tech at me. One of my favorite moments being Mr. X showing up with a GOD DAMN RAILGUN strapped to his fighter.
Want crazy tech? Play AC3 or ACX. Want a really good story? Play AC5. Want the OG modern Ace Combat gameplay and know about our lord Mobius 1? Play AC4. Want a bit of everything + epic battles + lots of lasers + knights? Play AC Zero.
The entire squadron was pardoned, I believe. But I'm personally glad we got rid of those ****ers Bandog and McKinsey and got some REAL teammates. Also, Lunch Caster == BEST AWACS

I’ve never played an Ace Combat game before seven, but I did notice the EXTREME lack of dedicated attackers. Only two? An SU-34 and the A10. Don’t get me wrong, love them both, but I felt that the dedicated ground strike aircraft were definitely underrepresented and outnumbered by the multi-role and dedicated fighters. Don’t get me wrong, love them all, but I do wish I could do more bombing runs. also...hehe, A-10 go brrrrtttt
Harling didn't have any formal governing power at the time of the second Eurusian war, he was very much a pawn just like anyone else, thus his creation may have been the point of contention aka Harlings mirror. The very theme of AC7 is ambiguity in the information age
@@tamamonomae7465 AWWB was wrong. Erasing nations doesn't prevent conflict. Conflict is a part of human nature, but humans are also highly social so eventually they would form those nations once again. @@Firesgone So wrong. Let me know when you've actually used every weapon in the game for 100 kills. I'll be kind and not expect you to get 100 kills with the air-to-ground weaponry.
@@jamielonsdale3018 I'm referring to the massive buffs to weapons that everyone uses in multiplayer. Regular missiles fly like base QAAMs due to this, along with most missile weapons. I prefer to play highly mobile builds with the strategy of enduring until whomever I'm dogfighting makes a mistake and gives me a clear shot or is otherwise distracted, but with buffed QAAMs and massively buffed missile speed there is only time to dodge or otherwise break missile lock. So I just treat them like QAAMs unless I specifically know it's going to be. Especially if the shot was taken from close range or in a big dogfight. Yeah I know other weapons play differently, the bombs, EML, that air-burst-wide-aoe-missile-I-can't-remember-the-name-of for a few obvious examples. Doesn't mean I can't just lure them into a bigger battle (for distractions) or for bombing strats, just staying away from the ground and not flying in a straight line, same to deal with EML though that's more active for sure. My high mobility and keeping my head on a swivel means there is not much that can hit me without ambush tactics/conventional stealth. Radar makes finding new targets/keeping track of looping missiles easier and I can always just avoid my counter builds anyways. Its not that hard to identify aircraft even without radar.
@@Firesgone A far more intelligent reply than I expected from someone who basically said 'every missile flies like a QAAM'. It's still wrong, but you didn't look dumb because your statement was a generalisation. There is actually significant variation between the different missiles. Very few missiles will re-attack once they miss the first time. Standards with High-Speed Data Link Antenna, QAAMs, and a couple of other missiles if you exploit some fancy flying. Your statement about counter-flying is intriguing, and I'd love to see how you address my playstyle, which is actually highly-reactive and neutral. While I don't like the main plot that much, I do LOVE the story that's told through each mission. The combination of gameplay, dialogue and sountrack make it on of my favorite AC games, my favorite mission being Lost Kingdom; I love every part of that mission specially how the soundtrack slowly builds up from start to finish.
Im just going to correct ONE point though The Belkans only holds the hyper-futuristic technology and the Arms Industry (confusingly on how theyre still around) The radical "Young Erusean Officer" borrowed/stole their tech and used Belkan scientists and engineers to develop their arms manufacturing for the Lighthouse War Ssoooo.. Wasnt Belkans that made the uncertainty
Even one year later this game is still inspiring. For both newcomers and fans alike. It may have been uncertain how the game would’ve been before release for both fans and project aces, but now We all know longer have to worry about uncertainty. “This game still had it and that’s what I hoped” Star Wars battlefront 2 by E.A. may have been the biggest comeback of 2019. However, in my eyes Ace Combat 7 was the best restoration for a series of 2019.
I finally got around to watching this video! I gotta say, very well-represented. AC7's gameplay is by far my favorite in the franchise, it has all the features that make a good Ace Combat game with plenty of missions and plenty of aircraft. Especially thanks to the DLC, there is no shortage of content to enjoy. My main issue with the game is indeed the presentation of some of its story, particularly Avril. I did want to mention that the sound design in VR is actually, surprisingly, the same as the main campaign if you stick to cockpit mode. Also I love the multiplayer bit on here being as much of an afterthought to the video as it was in the game itself :P
@@ForwardBias There's three exclusive VR missions, as well as an airshow mode and a beautiful hangar viewer. The main campaign is not playable in VR, and this is only on PlayStation. But if you loved the other Ace Combat games, you'll love a lot about AC7, not just the VR.
Those 3 missions were still enough to label them as one of the best VR experiences available. Of course it's not worth buying the whole game just for them, but they're a very neat addition.
The story was hard to follow, but when you flew everything was fun and beautiful. The main rival ace is a guy was willing to bring the whole world into an endless war just so he could fly the skies again. Remember, he literally sold out his kingdom to be a pilot for the Erusian military. He didn't care about the political stuff he just wanted to be the ace pilot. In the DLC Count states that Trigger doesn't really say that much, he just kicks ass. A major plot point is that there is fear that drones will make pilots obsolete. You observe that it looks like Project ACES sacrificed the story in order to make the missions more enjoyable. It's honestly frightening how well written this game was, considering how much effort was put into fanservice.
It's hard to follow when you don't play the series. I recommend you play AC:5 unsung war first. Then Ace Combat Zero and you pretty much got everything. Those my favorite AC game is AC5:unsung war... Best story in that one with great characters that you care about with Nagase as your Wingman or rather Winggirl. :3
@@vexingrabbit1824 Yeah, if only Ace5 and Zero Had Ace04 flight Physics - 0r If Zero Used AceX flight Physics as they were being made At the SAME TIME !? That would have been Perfect imo
My first AC games were 5 and Zero. Somehow I missed 4 even though it was on the same system. I later played 6 and I couldn't finish the campaign. The gameplay was nice, the story was captivating, but I just never gave me the same feeling as the PS2 era of the games. Playing 7 is a breath of fresh air. I wish that they'd remake all of them. If they made an Ace Combat collection (similar to the idea of the Master Chief Collection that Halo has) I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
I think the reason they have Avro and Tabloid separated from Trigger is simple: Nature of military operations. When you transfer post, You really felt like all your friends and teammates are gone. Same with switching company you work at. That felling of or reunion after month of not years is truly… moving
I honestly love how well put together this review is. I can't get enough of the subtle nods and not-so subtle nods to the other games in the series. It brings a sense of nostalgia to those that have played the previous games. With how you do these reviews I'd love to see you make a video on Project Wingman as well.
AC7 was excellent. As someone who's relatively new to the franchise, I feel confident in saying its one of the best games in the current XBOX/PS generation. I've played through it about 3 times, and I'm still not bored.
Skies Unknown is my first Ace Combat game after I watched Max0r’s incorrect summary of it and goddamnit this is the first game that has ever made me cry as hard as I did even on my 10th play through of the campaign. Before I die when I’m on my deathbed I’m going for one last dance with the angels.
If they retconned PSM into those games, I would absolutely play them again and again. I already played them for thousands of hours about a decade ago, but I've been spoiled by High-G and Post Stalls and now... Well you can't do this in AC04: th-cam.com/video/N3LBPQm-_NQ/w-d-xo.html Or this for that matter, and this isn't even that intensive on the post stalls: th-cam.com/video/lqHCZed01jA/w-d-xo.html
8:25 building a supersonic fighter jet and launching it into the air without any kind of certification for neither the plane nor its pilot? On top of that departing without any recognition markings, no registration and probably no contact to ATC? Hell yeah you would get into a whole lot of trouble for that - even without a war unfolding around you.
It's definitely a love letter and a major comeback for the series. It's like an apology letter for an abysmal Assault Horizon that they put out. Just what I wanted out of an Ace Combat game with an amazing soundtrack to boot. Even the visuals are astounding. Among the best 8th generation of gaming can offer. I'm that serious. Although, one major gripe I had with it is that there are missions that drag their ass for bit too long, and that's an issue for me because the game's very stingy with it's checkpoints. Previous Ace Combat games not being generous with checkpoints wasn't much of a problem for me because the missions were well structured that can be beaten fairly quickly if you know what you're doing. And I agree that the story doesn't do much justice, but I think it's adequate for an AC game. Though, I prefer the subtle nuance of AC4's story. AC4 in my opinion has the best narrative in the series. I'm looking forward to AC8. I'm even down for AC3 remake. The actual non-localized AC3. Not the one we originally got. And it can work because alternate branching paths, multiple endings and bold themes were refreshing for an Ace Combat game.
I want to be honest with you. I was actually in tears because of how Ace Combat it's important to me. The choices for music under your commentary was top notch and I felt a lot of nostalgia. I grew up with all of this and I miss everything about it. 1V1 split screen with my best friend or girlfriend, man I want them back. Thank you for the love letter, it's not to Ac itself, it's for every single individual that actually love and care about Ac as the Devs. My respects, aces around the world. thank you again, I love this community.
This was my first Ace Combat game, and I have to say, if they make another one I am buying that. In fact, it's got me wanting to make one myself... development on that has been somewhat slow tho...
I recently bought this game with absolutely no prior knowledge of the series, and while the story was confusing at times, it never bothered me a ton and I just went "I may not know much, all I know is I must become a badass."
It's would've been nice to have more cutscenes with the people we've flown with interacting with people from the cut scenes and former comrades showing up in the last two missions.
As a person that’s never played AC, playing 7 for the first time was something of a surprise tbh. I’ve never really heard about ace combat other than seeing ace combat 7 on the ps store. I decided to give it a try and I have to at, the combat and everything feels really good! I would definitely recommend it to anyone who likes a good dogfighting game, because this is no ordinary dogfighting game.
I completely loved your AC7 review! I just came from your AC franchise review. And I gotta say that I agree with you about AC7's plot. It has a really nice story of uncertaintly that makes sense by itself, at least for a long-coming fan. Great review, subbed! Keep flying! 🛩
I don't see how a nonsensical plot full of unlikeable and forgettable characters counts as a nice story. AC7's story is almost worse than Assault Horizon's story, and that's saying something.
amazing video budy, the part of the game who gave me more goosebumps was in the final, when captain Kei Nagase talk in the radio from the space... cheers from brazil
to me the satellite outage will probably take a few years to fully fix to me the more interesting incident is the shootdown of the f-104 since its classic mistaken identity shootdown caused by pilot error and i'd expect a load of inquires by the osean military especially the operations that were a disaster like sighthound
I believe that another main moniker the game wanted to emphasize was the importance of communication and the consequences of miscommunication. Throughout the story, we are presented with various forms of incidents where the cause was either misinformation, miscommunication or outright sabotage of data. The first few signs were already shown in the Mage arc where Avril was unaware she was taking flight in wartime, the panicking of the sudden strategy shift between allies and HQ when Arsenal Bird Justice arrived unannounced, and the miscommunication/disorientation between IUN-PKF forces that led to Trigger mistakenly getting framed. Then we see the same moniker again during the Spare arc where Full Band constantly speaks about the importance of information, which ended up getting him mistagged as an enemy, the F/A-18 drones using Osean IFFs to spoof Spare squadron's radar and the lightning mechanic temporarily disabling the radar/HUD, your main sources of real-time information. And then finally in the Strider arc, we see the sabotage of the Stonehenge system's radar guidance, the misinformation given to Howard Clements by the Alicorn, and ultimately the destruction of the worldwide satellite network, plunging the world into a total communications blackout. Where you cannot discern enemy from ally and all that appears in your HUD are just Unknowns, and you have to get close to them, risking potential fire just to identify them properly. We see a variation of this consequence as a main mission later on in which the LRSSG is effectively forced to commit a war crime in secret by raiding Shilage for supplies for the sake of survival, and the tagging of Unknowns being changed to targets instead as no Osean forces other than they are present. Which is why I find it kind of fittingly ironic that in the final mission, where Hugin and Munin threaten an endless war by attempting to upload their data to every drone manufacturing plant across the continent via the space elevator, we need to stop the drones' communications by destroying the elevator's receivers along with the drone itself. The game presents a visual of what would happen in a world with no real-time data and although I do agree the story can be told better than this, I feel that is an overlooked part of the story of what the game has to offer
I want to see a game set in a timeline where Trigger failed to stop the drones. Imagine a global war of all of Strangereal's countries combined, against a race of sentient super-drones. Their version of Terminator's "Judgement Day".
Ac7 was my first game and while I didn't quite understand the story at first I looked up lore and gameplay of the past games (with the help of the overview of ace combat games) and I'm glad I did because everything makes sense now and I love the game even more now
Last ace combat I played was the 4th sky’s unknown and now I’m playing the new one I watched your overview of all of them I came back to the series at the perfect time
The story being quite messy in multiple areas is actually explained in Aces at War in the interview section. In an interview with Kono and Sunao Katabuchi (the latter being AC 7's writer as well as AC 5's and to a lesser degree AC 4's), Katabuchi himself mentioned that he basically wrote the entire thing in a week. It's not even hyperbole, and on top of that he was working on his adaptation of In This Corner of the World (novel set in WWII by Fumiyo Kono and adapted into an anime movie format by Katabuchi) during the time he was writing AC 7's story. At this point he pretty much sent PA his first draft with all the mistakes that come with it, and this is while remembering that his work on AC 5 felt too naively preachy when he had more time on his hands. It ain't even a case of Katabuchi being constrained either, since Kazutoki Kono only wanted to ask Katabuchi about writers that could work on AC 7 since Sunao has plenty of connections in the anime and manga industry. Katabuchi just ended up doing it himself thinking he could do Kono a solid, out of his own volition, without exterior constraints. He did have good intentions but overestimated his capabilities, which is why we get surprisingly dumb lines like how Schroeder's explanation justifies mass Belkan genocide. It's an unfortunate setback that happened early in development that Kono couldn't really reverse since that would mean going against authority, which is a no go for him. Either way, I'd say AC 7 was good enough. I wouldn't put it above that due to the aforementioned rush that is showcased pretty clearly in the story's inconsistencies, core mechanics that could really benefit from a more weighty inertia model of sorts and the fact that the absolutely cursed plot armor from AH that is way worse than DFM would ever be still somehow, for some extremely dumb reason, was kept on Mihaly rather than altering the game's progression of events accordingly. Edit: AC 7 MP is also EML and QAAM meta for the most part.
pls why Yeah hopefully they’ll get it Right next time with gamplay that is, Besides the Rushed work they should have time to Analyze things and make better
Woah woah woah, what did the doc say that justified Mass Belkan Genocide?! I don't think I was paying enough attention if something like that slipped through.

Yeah, I remember playing Ace Combat back in the Xbox 360 era, but nothing like the stunning visuals and back to the basics gameplay that Ace Combat 7 brings to the table, man, it feels refreshing when you play a game that knows it is a pretty badass game. It literally is the culmination of gameplay, little nods and references, visual upgrades, and story telling from all games combined into this wonderful package, you can see how much the developers love this game. I'd say this game is a must play, even for people new to the franchise, give it a shot!
"When the game knows it's Baddass, Culmination of all the things that came before " ? Give me a big Fat Break It's Full if it's self is what it is ! See how much the developers Put their Love into the game But they can't Patch things like Replay viewer in pause menu or Update multiplayer !?
@@mrandrossguy9871 I think you're full of yourself if you're just complaining about small things like that, besides, updating the multiplayer is only viable when the game's life-cycle is still going, even then, don't force the devs to make it a live service.. not everything needs constant updates, it's fine with what we already have, don't be greedy and be humble with what you already have. For you can't appreciate the effort devs have placed on the game you so dare throw unneeded and unwanted negativity towards. Consumers like that, end up ruining any products with such thirst for more and always more demand, putting pressure on the people working on said products won't bring any good results in the end. I talk of what the devs envisioned from so long ago, when there wasn't any kind of games like that. The creators love the idea of technology and military applications, they even explore science fiction scenarios with it all from the perspective of pilots. But more than that, it's the genuine dogfight, the soundtrack, the feeling, and the story all coming together to deliver the amazing experience. This game is incredible, I wouldn't say otherwise because this is my first time experience with the franchise after a long time, there won't be games like this, or other franchises of air combat that reach this level of polished care, in my honest opinion.

I love all the references to previous games and nostalgia that brought with it but to me, it simply felt like a proper AC game and that is the highest praise I can give ❤
Personally in my opinion 6 was my favorite gameplay wise. Story meh, I'll give it to 4. Kinda wished the gameplay felt more to 6. Just nits n bits felt off to me. Like take off and landing, along with the mechanics of the swept wing on the F-14 Tomcat. But the new mechanics with the cloud turbulence actually kinda loved. Added realism. But, 4-7 all have absolute amazing soundtracks. 6 has a few of my all-time favorites but overall all amazing
Have you ever played Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War? That has a truly epic soundtrack, and it’s own unique mechanics, with probably my favourite story of all of them. The climax is nail biting, and it’s story is remarkably profound.
Great review. Maybe I'm the only one who thought this, but after the end of the game, I think Harlings intentions wanting to go back to the Orbital Elevator were that he was preparing and waiting for Pilgrim 1 Spacecraft to come home.
I absolutely adored my multiple playthroughs of ace combat 7. Anyone who says the game is bad has every right to have their opinion... But I'll silently judge them for it
It's a reference to a religious text called "Tower of Babel" I believe. Basically the gods wanted to sever their connection with us. Think of the sky as God's domain and the tower as our connection to the skies above. Gargoyle Squadron was ordered to destroy it in an attempt to disrupt the drones connection with the tower.
AC7 is my first taste of this franchise, I can tell you that the story from someone just jumping in was a bit hard to grasp at times, but the gameplay is absolutely fantastic. I'm now on my 4th playthrough of the campaign and am still loving every minute of it.
its the current year Yeah I don’t think it’s fair And it sucks that Ace06 is Still Only for Xbox! Such a Stupid Move, But it’s Also Not fair that Xbox players Can’t get Ace04, 05 and Zero :(
Nah, you can see him fly passed the building afterwards but since the hud is going haywire he's harder to spot. Something did hit that building though around the same time. Not sure what it was. Maybe a missile or another plane.
Just found this video 4 years after it was made. I have completed this game 100% including the dlc and loved every minute of it. I still go back and play the campaign again. The first ace combat I ever played was 5 unsung war and never had the chance to play again growing up. When 7 came out I bought it shortly after it came out and was roped back into the ace combat series. I really hope they do make another game soon because I am beating Mister x way to easily now 😂

Ac 5 sytle would have worked but they babbled into AC 4

Other issues:
Why did the Arsenal Bird facehump Stonehenge when we know it can snipe with airburst nukes?
Dang boi. You make one excellent point.
Ace 6 did a pretty good job on that

8:26 flying without a transponder is pretty much illegal everywhere

The very theme of AC7 is ambiguity in the information age
To go even deeper into lore the ambiguity extends to previous games in light of ac7's events.
Maybe a world without boundaries wasn't wrong after all.

QAAM: *am i a joke to you?*
In multiplayer it practically every missile flys like a QUAM so I just fly like it is. It feels so weird going back to Single player after that! XD
Yes. Yes you are, QAAM.
If you have PS4, I'd definitely love to sortie with you a few times.
Thank you for giving me a respectful response to what was a somewhat derogatory/derisive comment.

8:03 Thank you for the Macross reference. I feel like hardly anyone I know gets that reference since it was a series I grew up with as a kid.
Wait this game is on VR? Instant buy for me then. I loved AC6 and the other games so I feel like I'm going to love this game too.
@@ForwardBias There's three exclusive VR missions, as well as an airshow mode and a beautiful hangar viewer. The main campaign is not playable in VR, and this is only on PlayStation. But if you loved the other Ace Combat games, you'll love a lot about AC7, not just the VR.
@@SlyAceZeta awesome thanks for the heads up. I'll still enjoy the game either way :)
Those 3 missions were still enough to label them as one of the best VR experiences available. Of course it's not worth buying the whole game just for them, but they're a very neat addition.
His representation of multiplayer is reprehensible. Besides that, I'll agree with you.
Ain't it crazy that I get goosebumps every time I hear that ending song 😂. This has an epic ass soundtrack including game play
I want to be honest with you. I was actually in tears because of how Ace Combat it's important to me. The choices for music under your commentary was top notch and I felt a lot of nostalgia. Ace Combat 7 brings me straight back to my childhood playing Ace Combat Zero on my PS2 and I love it
Felt so damn epic when the shields fell. I actually said, "All wings, fire at will." As if I was actually Trigger in that situation.
Well, harling was trying to keep nagase safe so thats why he came back to the ISEV. To make sure she has a way to come back to the Earth.

I do not. I do have a Ko-fi linked in the description though.
Ace 7 brings tears every single time. I am thankful for this, my childhood is now complete with the crisp white sheets on my bed that I just made.

I started AC7 a couple weeks ago, had the luxury of BR/TDM til 4:00 in the morning yesterday. Way simple but really satisfying.
24:22 did Mihaly just crash? lol
Nah, you can see him fly passed the building afterwards but since the hud is going haywire he's harder to spot. Something did hit that building though around the same time. Not sure what it was. Maybe a missile or another plane.
It looks like a missile Mihaly fired. No other planes were on radar, and you hadn't fired any.
I really hope they do make another game soon because I am beating Mister x way to easily now 😂
Ace combat 7
Gravity unknown
As a first-time player, I loved the story; it was engaging and well-made.
