@@user-bt6hh9yu1n You could also say that about the poor sap that welded on the angle iron. Needless work is not generous. Mental and physical energy is better spent on fixing stuff that needs fixing. Waste of resources to keep some rich guy's mind clear.
I had a customer like this. His business was extremely successful, and spending money was never a second thought. He ended up being pretty much my only customer for side work, which is what I do welding for. There was unlimited welding for me. Anyway, very nice work as always.I kinda liked it better the way it was. Thanks and stay safe.
I did work for a guy like that too. He was president of MBNA credit card company. I’m a bodyman and he owned a bunch of antique cars like a ‘59 Cadillac, a ‘62 Lincoln convertible just like JFK was shot in, a 62 Impala, and 3 or 4 others. With the ‘59 Cadillac he went and bought another one for big bucks, in pretty good shape and in very restorable condition just for the bumpers because his had a couple very small dings in them. I’ve talked to carpenters who worked for him and they said he’d tell them what he wanted, they’d build it to his specs, he’d look at it and say “no I think it would look better this way” and he’d have them tear it all out and build it over again. People with more money than common sense. Wish I had that problem.
I agree the front bumpers with the angle look would help avoid damage to the machine but probably wreck whatever it hit. The sides. Not so much, but if I had to guess it was symmetry they were shooting for. But hey. If the customer is willing to pay for the service then they can have what they want, right? Great job keep the videos coming.
I agree with you if the customer is willing to pay I’d be willing to do. I’ll take his money. It pays my bills, I’ll just say thank you all the way to the bank.
Cubitron is my absolutely most favorite abrasive in the industry. We use grinding discs, sandpaper, etc…being in the autobody industry as a bodyman of 30yrs. It’s more expensive than other brands but man that stuff just keeps cutting, cutting and cutting. I’m new to your channel….love it. I have ADHD so I require videos that move along pretty fast to keep my attention. Your editing is perfect for me. Thank you for all your hard work On Fire Welding. And I’m learning new things from your industry that I don’t have in mine👍
Smashing job. And yet again you have made it look original just the paint that shows something has happened. Next time the picky owners will demand half a metal tube welded on, rounded for safety lol. Ahh the good old Angle grinder, also handy for shaping car body panels and patches for the underside of cars. Dam rust.
I spent 15 years working out a service van in Scotland. None of my employers would cough up for the awesome equipment you have. So much needless struggle on my part, so the man at the top could make a few more shekels!
Boy Greg, You sure are excellent with that Plasma Torch!! I think I’m going to buy one now, and a good Wire Feed Welder!! You have inspired me, great videos, as always!! Thanks, Greg!!!
Yea everyone has their own ideas and opinions about things. I bet the previous owner gets those angles welded on there as soon as he gets a scraper so that the bumpers don't get bent. And it looks like a heck of a good idea. Ah well what ever they want as long as they are paying. Beautiful work as usual though.
so nice to see someone who know how to paint with a spray can..... .the morons I deal with go , sprit, sprit sprit sprit..... very irritating to even be in the same area when they paint that way......
I have the same TH-cam certified stickers, but I run them on a lower profile inside the doors on my stellar box. Still building a client base and I'd rather not have people wondering 😂
You do nice work….like s bodyman 👍😊 I never knew plasma cutters come with a gouging tip. That seems like it would save some on materials? Do have to buy the gouging rods? And the plasma gouging tips probably last quite a while? I’m not in your industry, I’m asking and guessing 😄
Again a great job. I liked how the angle bumper looked. But you have to give the contractor credit for wanting things to look factory. That is a hard thing to come by nowadays.
The angled bumpers look pretty purpose built, and the paint worn off the front ‘passenger side’ bumper looks like it was rubbing something repeatedly. Maybe turning the machine around in a deep cut of dirt that nicked the front every time?
Well thing is you know the owner takes care of his equipment and I’m sure they’re always fixed the correct way! I ran some real cobbled up stuff In my days… I appreciate owners like this
I really thought whoever added the angle iron to the bumpers did a great job but as I once told a friend of mine when he asked why a customer wanted something so stupid that didn’t make any sense to him, “Who Cares”! “Doing things that customers want that don’t make any sense to me is a large part of my annual income”.
YOUR TRUCK. did you design its contents? Did the truck come with most of what you use? What else would you like to have on y our truck/ How is the gas mileage?
Just a reminder too be safe with your grinder with out your gard I know there is a lots of controversy on this topic but it is also easy to forget how powerful they are
If you want to take a perfectly functional and useful tool and render it all but useless, put a guard on an angle grinder 🤦🏻♂️! Just my humble opinion as an almost daily user for over 20 years. Don’t get me wrong, I thoroughly believe in long sleeves, leather gloves and full face shields.
Seems like a lot of work just for cosmetics but hey, if the cash is green, right? I know a guy like that. Everything must be original. He will drive to different ATV dealers to buy ONLY Polaris, Honda, and Yamaha motor oil to match his machines. Found out one had an aftermarket carb. Tore it out and ordered one from the dealer.
So i'm a newbie to welding. I was curious why you gouged the remaining metal. My thought was using the plasma mode with the tip on the inside of the welded piece using the face of the old bumpers as a guide. Is it that the gouging method offers more control? I wondered about holding a straight line with the gouge vs the 'guided' method with the plasma.
What backing pad are you sing for those discs? I see the pads on your store but i need a backing pad. I saw a Mercer pad which came in standard and turbo but i do not know the difference in those.
It’s a somewhat older Wilton bullet combination pipe/machinist vise. If it’s an 8 inch jaw, that’s about a $3400 tool. If it’s a 6 inch jaw, I’m thinking 2800. The lesser “Tradesman” versions are 1400 and under, in that range. Greg’s vise here is a not so common tool, and of much higher strength, hence it’s more expensive.
I have a question. When you do fast forward on your videos do you do it here on TH-cam or on a program before upload. I'd like to speed thru some of this video I made the other day and can't figure it out.
Only in California! Owner doesn't like the look. Heavy equipment..... Next week he'll have you out there cutting the springs and making it a low rider. As long as the check clears!!
Those bumpers would make stuff slide up or down causing more damage to the machine not just the bumper. Do not understand the thinking behind them. Millner Haufen Lifetime diamond grinding sanding cut off wheel . it works as a stone not sanding so well.
The fact that your customer is paying you to do this for looks it crazy! Thats the type of customer you keep around because they'll always have work and don't care about your price!
I understand people whinging about wasted money. However I’d wonder if this is the sort of person who also stays on top of all preventative maintenance and such. It does seem a bit wasteful to remove something that doesn’t appear to be in the way. But it also makes sense to keep things as stock as possible so that you can more easily spot anything not quite right with a large fleet. Unique mods do make things annoying when trying to manage a larger collection of equipment.

There is more control with gouging. I use the The technique you described all the time.
Don’t forget to paint pretty flowers on the bumper, make sure they match the owner’s dress.
What does liking flowers and dresses have to do with this?
It’s a joke. A bad joke, but still a joke. Poking fun at spending money on a style choice. Not utility.
