"Just don't say that you know how they feel. You don't."
Simple line which hits so hard.

"If you say 'two days maybe', it will be etched in her mind forever."
This is the line that always stuck with me, so simple and raw

that and kim's "just don't say you know how they feel. you don't" are two of the most powerful lines in the game

sorry i kinda forgot and DEwiki doesn't help at all, why the emphasis on 2 days ago? was this because at that certain time the working class woman and her husband got into a fight that made him not going home or something

@@ize4598 Also this is just my interpretation, but...
if you say "2 days, maybe", then she'll be thinking about everything she did in the last 2 days for a long time. Feeling guilt she shouldn't feel.

what ripped my heart particularly bad was she HAND SEW his old jacket so itd be more comfortable for him in the cold weather
that is not something just anyone does
that is something a woman who dearly, truly loves her drunk idiot of a husband does.
she knew he was the kind of person to get in trouble but still cared so deeply for him
    and then...she hears hes dead...
fuck, learning that one little fact just adds an extra tear in the heart break.

Harry was with her husband before the game starts, If you vomit while inspecting the hanged man, it will say Harrys vomit smells like kebab, and there was a kebab in the trash where his body was found. it also explains why when you first talk to the working class woman Harry will immediately ask if her husband is missing.

Holy shit. The writing of this game is amazing on many levels. The characters, the world building, the actual story itself and these little details.

In my playthrough, I kept my cool. I told her what happened in clear, concise terms. I was empathetic, but professional. I got it done.
Then I started crying the second I left the apartment, because holy SHIT how do you do something like this? How do you tell a woman her husband isn't coming home? It put me right back into the headspace I was in when I came home one weekend and found my mom dead. There's no way to process it. It's just... real. No matter how bad you want it not to be.
    GOD, this fuckin' game.

it was really hard to keep my shit together, it sucks being on either side, and kim is right, it doesnt matter how you do it, because you have to do it.
There's no good way to say "Your brother/mother/Husband/Son/Daughter is dead. The only good way to do it, is to just do it, don't offer advice, just offer your ear.

The clean apartment, pictures on the wall, something cooking in the kitchen, a loving atmosphere. This is an ode to the forgotten working class woman. My grandmother's callused hands come to mind.

This was my favorite part of my first playthrough. I was trying my hardest to "fix" Harry and make him less of a fuck up. Fucked alot up, but still keept trying. This was one of the last things i did before the mercenary tribunal. I had a full RCM uniform on, with the sword. Went in, and told her about her husband right away. Idk why but Harry looked so offical in the uniform and i feelt i only said the right things and then left. It was perfect. Real estate de core shit. He acted like the prefect double-yefreitor Lieutenant in that moment.
Also why the fuck did you say "two days", like bruh, she didnt need to know that.

I think a really clever part of this scene is how basically the only skills involved are your physical ones. Sure, you need to make an empathy check to get the ball rolling, but once it starts, it's not a battle of psyche, it's a battle of endurance, pain tolerance, and strength. Which is the case because the conversation to be had is one of the most painful things that can happen. It's brilliant.

My older brother died in a freak accident that his son (then 17) watched happen. I remember, ironically drunk, hearing the news from my sister-in-law. it was like an ice cube down the back of my shirt - I woke up immediately as I made my way to their house an hour away. We ate Taco Bell at 4AM because it was comforting as we cracked jokes, but the undercurrent of discomfort was like a cancer that made itself known every time we had a moment of silence. They really did capture the awkward, sad, immediate feelings of death in this scene.

As someone who has been in the position that the woman is, this hits especially close to me.
Its like a punch to the stomach, instant nausea, your heart all the way in your throat, wanting to get up and run away and never come back, but just slumping into your seat as the world dissappears. I was lucky to be surrounded by friends and local councilors when i heard the news, but it was still unbearable, i dont think i spoke for the rest of that day, reverting back into non-verbalness of my early childhood.
This is the best game i have ever had the pleasure and honor of experiencing, and its not close.
