The Animated series is Genuinely Awesome but the Campaigns are even better. Much more detail, subtlety, and room to explore concepts. Its the eternal Book Vs Movie debate, even the best adaptations cut great things out. and it's 4 + hours into 20 minutes lol.
Honestly, I feel like campaign 1 has even more animate-worthy scenes than campaign 2 or 3 and am so glad to see it getting some love. You definitely should watch campaign 1
I would suggest skipping the first 27 episodes, maybe just read the summary and pick up at the Briarwood Arc that starts around 24 if I remember it correctly. So start with 28, read the summary for at least 24 to 27 and then have fun. There is a really... Let's say problematic person in the first 27 episodes who got kicked out and never mentioned again for a good reason and honestly you're not missing out too much the craighammer arc is... Okay. If you're interested in more Guillermo, Allura and Lady Kima backstory then watch it, but for anything else meh. Just read the summary

Percy's rage is much colder and more calculated in the campaign initially and it's an interesting change. There are real differences both large and subtle and people should NOT rely on the animation when watching the Campaign. It's great but it's not the same. Also Episode 26 "Consequences and Cows" is a classic! Telling people to skip that is steering them wrong. The amount of inside jokes made from the events of this episode alone makes it worth it. And you miss a lot of lore and worldbuilding and NPC interactions and fun shenanigans with the cast when you skip the first episodes so you're actually really wrong about that. I'm not saying they're not rough, they are, but there's a lot of good stuff in there.

There is a reason why I refer to player characters as "Omnisexual Disaster Hobos" I had one OOC ace shapeshift into a peacock to do the WAP challenge while the other OOC ace chased them and asked the rules to put a peacock into a WWE torture rack of pain (tm)... while the rest of the party was laughing (Note, this was in response to introducing a character that my ENTIRE party of players apparently want to bang. Be a damn shame if, things happen, to said NPC). This is the same crew that the sorc shapeshifted the barb into a dolphin and they asked me to rule on the barb holding his axe in his mouth, raging while the sorc picked him up by the tail to wield him in a barfight that came from a wildsurge... Omni sexual disaster hobos
i wont say im not a little disappointed this wasnt addapted into the legend of vox machina, i mean they had to cut something, and they didnt have the full party in the fey, but still. here's hoping, if they do a Bells Hells series (B"H) that they keep in the bawdy basement antics
