My ex's grandma worked with him. She was shocked and said he seemed very normal. He went by Herb. WOW you mentioned her! Susan Pierce. Unfortunately she has passed, she had LOTS of stories about him.
My little brother Steven Elliott was one of his victims and I still can't believe that they are still saying that he killed himself whenever it was noted that the items that were in his car when the couple that found him were gone when the police got there and the gun was never found.
My boss’s wife was friends with his kid growing up. Been to that house. Talked about going to bonfires in the backyard😳 She told us about it about 2 months ago one day when we were talking about serial killers at work
And to add to that, this guy reminds me a lot of someone i work with. And that bit about the dead raccoon being painted over made me laugh out loud. Something about that is oddly funny.
A word on the whole "sex only six times" thing. In America during the 60s and even in some places today, sex was viewed very narrowly; it's functions were: produce offspring, satisfy men, and endear the wife to her husband. That's it. I don't think Julie was gay, I think she was a product of the time, and was resigned to a life of doing exactly what her husband demanded sexually. If that was sex every day at 5 pm, she would do it without complaint. If that was sex only six times and just going through the motions, she would submit to that. Women were heavily discouraged from complaining about anything. Their job was to get married, please their husbands, raise babies, and shut up. And Herb was a closet homosexual when being gay could literally get you killed (obviously). She wasn't weird, she was repressed by a society that saw her as an object.
"Killer Christ" OMG so funny I almost peed on myself. Fantastic!! Also, probably THE most comprehensive telling of Herb Baumeisters story Ive heard yet. Excellent reasesrch. Its obvious howuch work you put into these stories, I mean 2/3hrs of talking, its alot. Oh I cant forget your mimicking of Julie and her "man butt" god your funny. I really needed those laughs, even though the story is horrible, your just f-ing gunny. Lindsey is so lucky to have you. I love a funny man.
"Her and Herbs" LOL!! Thanks, Dan. Mushmouth strong! Great episode. My favorite (so far... only 1:41:00 in...) was the cliché serial killer voice about the mannequins and the pool. You almost Cummins lawed me with that one. 3 outa 5! Wouldn't change a thing! May Baumeister answer to God for his life choices and may all parents love their children regardless of whether or not they agree with their life choices. Keep on keepin' on!
This is the closest to home suck for me I live just north of Indy we go to Westfield a lot for shopping and what not. Didn’t know there was such a notorious killer that lived near me
I live less than a mile from Fox Hollow Farm. It's creepy to walk by when you know what went on there. A very trusted friend grew up even closer, and has been on the property as a kid. I'm not sure what he's experienced there, but he is usually happy to talk about anything. When the subject comes up, his demeanor changes, and he immediately changes the topic of conversation. One of these days, I'll get it out of him!
@@bangcocbanger752 nah, it's still interesting. There's a very popular walking path that runs right by the swampy area where he disposed of the bodies. Most people walking by have no idea.
I may have missed it since I was listening at work, but did Dan happen to mention that Herb may very well have sold his victims clothes at his own stores??
The Fox Hollow grounds are said to be haunted 😳The fist time I heard of this story it was featured in an episode of A Haunting 😮I was horrified and had nightmares every time I went to the grocery store 🤨After learning he was one part of the Piggly Wiggly food chain 😮
I lived right off of I-70 in New Castle. Indy was only like 45 minutes away but I couldn't believe how close it was especially the one that was found outside of Greenfield. This just shows you really can't tell. Hell someone in these comments might be living a similar life😳😬
I'm pretty sure his wife knew he was swinging the other way and she had her own adventures, i even bet some of those kids are not his, and both of them were okay with this situation and of course she won't bring this up.. she didn't know that he's killing people left and right though because she didn't wanna be involved in his mysterious affairs..
Lol the sex math was presented in an odd fashion... 25 / 6 equals 4.166666... Saying they had sex less than once every two years, while technically also true, is silly when the more emphatic and accurate thing would be to say les than once every 4 years... right?
You know the whole 6 times was done after she got pregnant the 3rd time. I picture the last 20 years of the marriage sexless. She should have gotten a lover, hope she did but doesn't sound like it.
Julie must have have found poloroids of men. Herb had a poloroid camera he used to take the raccoon picture.... most serial killers keep trophies.... I bet he had wallets, poloroids, something....
I think he re-circulated a lot of that stuff back into his thriftstore business to rid himself of any material-type physical evidence (beyond the bone fragments).
Call a guy herb buttmaster too many times in elementary school and this is what happens. Fking algorithm makes you type weird stuff to get your comments in.
So he had 3 kids in 6 tries? He might be lucky he was gay at that rate. I went to fox hollow farm at night a couple times before it was bought again. Creepy place.
I thought that part about Herbert pissing on his boss's desk and a letter to the Governor was one of your bullshit tangents and I was waiting for the "JK gosh dang"... but it never came
The most boring presentation of a otherwise interesting story. Two and a half hours of looking at this same guy just talking his head off. I skipped through most of it because it's so monotonous.. There are much better you tubes on this story.
Good God, can we get one podcast where identity politics come into play? We know the zeitgeist of the past. We know people used to look at gay people as aberrant. I'm not watching these to get a lecture every single episode. I love ya Dan, you were one of the more down to earth guys doing this and now it seems like you're just amalgamating into the rest of the crowd.
That is the context and history here. It is important to this story. Would you say the same about a black person that you are sick of hearing about their struggles?

We're talking 80s and 90s here.
She wasn't gay but this happened throughout the 80s
Thinking the fault falls more on the murderer in this case but nice deflection.
To think that fox hollow farm is only a little over 20min away from where I live is absolutely wild, cool and maybe even interesting

My wife was an intern at WISH tv when Herb was on the run. She remembers going out to Fox Hollow Farm with a crew and reporting out there.
Just love that Dan gave this guy jimmys voice from South Park.
This is the funniest suck since Steve Irwin (the guy reviewing his town in AUS, specifically). 😂😂
The tone he uses for the wife's parts is killing me.
The "man butt" comment, I was rolling!
I loved the hint of Scared to Death flavor in this episode! It was like a Mad Magic LaCroix!
Thought for sure you were going to say that he drank Miller lite because it was the closest Herb could get to the taste of piss....
Why does Dan’s Nic Cage sound like his David Childress impression? Love it lololol
Thank you for telling this storey..I knew the family of one of the boys that was mentioned..so sad..
Do you still have contact with the family? I'm looking to speak to families of known or suspected victims...

You can see the area where he dumped the bodies from the Monon trail! It's just south of 156th st, on the west side of the Monon.
Timesuck and Scared to Death in one 😂 *SHOWBIZ*
