I just love that you smiled the whole time. If it's not making you smile or bringing you joy, something's wrong. I also love that "leave some soul for the rest of us" comment. That's the thing that keeps me coming back to them: the soul. This song was an instant favorite for me. Once I heard it, I was hooked and I still am. I love most of their songs, but this one had a hold on me. And you're right that it's very vocally-driven. The vocal is what I paid the most attention to in the beginning. And it's definitely my favorite vocal performance of his out of all their songs. But the more I listened to it, the more I appreciated what I could hear of the bass and drums. I don't normally pay attention to instrumentation because I'm not a musician, but they've taught me how to appreciate it. Now the bass and drums are what I'm drawn to the most.

      So interesting, Jamila…
Yeah, the smile when listening to DLoops - this music just makes you feel so good.
As Jonah said, the most important factor for him in playing with Henrik and Aron, is that they’re getting on so well with each other and are having so much fun!
Often when listening to their songs, like you a bit, I focus each time on just one instrument alone, or the vocals alone, almost as if I was the one playing that instrument/singing that melody…sooo hard because each one of those guys seems to have 4 brains and 8 hands!! 🤣
But it really makes you understand a bit more about the complexity and skillz in these songs, hey?
And listening to a reaction such as this one, again it makes you dive a little deeper into the music and shows you something you haven’t heard before - at least that’s how it is for me.
      What a fun journey ☺️😋😎

"Jonah, leave a little soul for the rest of us!" That was brilliant. Really great reaction. Nice comments, good energy. Nice job thanks for presenting this.

Did you notice that they had Jonah bent over the bass guitar and Henrik behind the drums for a very short while in the video, just for fun? It's so nice that they take their time for that kind of stuff as well, in my view.. Great reaction, as fiddlestix points out.

Yes Ingmar, I totally agree, it takes a certain mindset to indulge in that sort of fun and be goofy like that 😉
So many little things that they do in their videos to make us smile, and show they’re themselves having fun…it’s extra nice ☺️
Jonah once said that having fun and getting on well with each other was the single most important thing in their playing together…
      👍

Love your reaction, thanks! Great to hear you commenting on everything from Henrik’s playing to the overall state of music, how it ebbs and flows. This Swedish trio is insane. Would love to see more Dirty Loops reactions on your channel, so many videos to choose from!

SO many interesting and great observations there, man, totally appreciate your reaction to those dudes!
And yes, you’ve picked it: this vid was made after the recording. Visuals are edited by Aron, the drummer (who btw edits all of DLoops’ videos).
Somewhere else they talk about how difficult it can be to match what they’ve originally put down on the recording, with what they play for the camera ;)
Also, you commented on the pop-iness of this song, and again I’ve heard in an interview of Jonah on Stratele Studio’s channel that it’s been part of their approach to songwriting: to create a very simple tune and song structure first and then add more layers, mess with it and ‘loopify’ it ☺️
The dynamics?! Man they’re the masters of creating endlessly interesting ones, I totally agree!
I’m sure you’ll go back and listen to this song again, and not having to comment, be able to dive deeper into it.
Btw, Jonah laid down ALL of the vocals in this one. Aron with cans on, singing (and Henrik for a second) is just for laughs 🤣
Oh and yes, all three of them are involved in the songwriting and -arranging process, Henrik mostly adding his bass part recording at the end. Aron actually often comes up with not just parts of the melodies, but also the lyrics (at least the general sounds of them), which I guess would be hilarious at times 🤣
Talking about Michael Jackson and 90s vibes, “Rock You” might be a good one next :) 🔥
    🙏

Yeah, I've also heard that Aron tends to write nonsense lyrics in English, and then wants Henrik to write the proper lyrics, but he has to use the same vowels as the nonsense ones. Can't be an easy task that, hahaha. They've said in several interviews, that they are more interested in the sound and percussive qualities of the lyrics than the meaning of them, so trying to see deeper meaning in their songs is kind of futile. :)

@@fiddlestix3025 Yeah, it really is. And I sure am not envying Henrik that task. And in a language that isn't his own. Yikes! They quite often bash their own lyrics for being a bit vapid, but at the same time, that's not what they're focussing on, so I think they're doing a serviceable job of it. I've heard Henrik say he would like to get better at it though, and for some songs they've had help from the "outside" as well, so they haven't totally given up on it. :)

@@lottawiklund8606 I mean, writing good lyrics, these are serious skills that would take a while to master… and it’s not what they had set out to do when they started, right? Not exactly their original area of expertise, I would think 😉 and then in English, my god!
I know Henrik is bagging himself out for some of the lyrics he wrote, but hey, I’d want NO ONE to listen to lyrics which I had written! 😂
I get the feeling, these guys can learn and do anything if they want to!
Oh and btw, am enjoying these little conversations, thnx 👍 always interesting.
      Stay well 🌿
      Cheers from Australia

@@fiddlestix3025 As someone who has never been overly interested in song lyrics myself (I mostly listen to the sound and percussive qualities of them too), I think their lyrics are completely fine, and considering it's not something they're even focussing on, it's even more than fine. But as all perfectionists tend to do, of course they're being harsh on themselves (unnecessarily so, if you ask me).
Yeah, I also enjoy these conversations quite a bit. So nice to talk to people who are just as ridiculously crazy about this kind of music (and this band) as I am. I usually just feel really embarrassed being this much of a fangirl, hahaha.

Suggestion, when the song ends, do yourself a favor - close your eyes and listen to the music behind the credits………one of my favorite parts of a production with so many extraordinary parts. After listening to Next to You a zillion or more times, the song doesn't sound complete without this gorgeous bit of icing on the cake.

Really nice reaction. I love how they cram all sorts of genres into one song, and still make it work. But they are self proclaimed music theory nerds, all three of them, so if anyone could make it work, it would be them, I guess. I must say though, this song doesn't make me think about MJ at all. To me it just screams Toto. :)
A great song from a soundtrack to react to, is Björk's Play Dead (from the film The Young Americans). Will put a link in a separate comment (if youtube lets me).

Aron often cites Toto as one of his main influences growing up, and considering he wrote quite a lot of this song, it's not surprising, I guess. :)

    • @discopolarizationmedia
      @discopolarizationmedia  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Well . Everyone uses what they know when listening and learning new music. It’s not labeling as it is comparing melodies, notes and the feel of a song. The band it’s self isn’t MJ or Billie but the song style and the feel felt a lot
Like MJ , Toto and Billie Ocean style runs. Music is a beautiful thing that can be anything and nothing . It’s amazing isn’t it?
