Hey Angela, Heatwave was one of the hottest groups of the 70's & early 80's who in my opinion didn't get all of the recognition they deserved and Johnny Wilder (R.I.P.) had one of the best voices on the planet!!! I got to see them live, they put on such an amazing show that the crowd didn't know what hit them when they performed!!!

Most people don't realize that the keyboarder is the musical mastermind "Rod Temperton". He wrote the majority of Michael Jacksons iconic hits of the 80s. In fact he wrote most of Quincy Jones related productions. Look him up....

I used to bribe DJs to play this at the clubs. Rod Temperton (the keyboardist) was a genius that not only created Heatwave and wrote most of their music but had his hands in helping a lot of other musicians with their own work.

As much as we all admired Rod temperton and the songs he help write. He did" Not" create Heatwave. Johnnie Wilder Jr .The lead Vocalist did. And he found Rod temperton in the newspapers because he needed a keyboardist. And that's how he found the talented Rod temperton. Johnnie gave Rod temperton that opportunity to write songs for the group. And knew that Rod was a Genius song writer. Rod make it clear that at the end of day he wanted to become a songwriter. And Johnnie knew this so he continue writing songs for them until. The unfortunate accident Johnny had in '79. So rod continued to write some songs for heatwave & other Artists Mostly the talented MJ. So we need to thank Johnnie Wilder for taking a chance on Rod temperton. They remained friends to the end. May they rest in peace ❤🙏🏼

It was the first 45 rpm record I bought with my own money when I was 9 years old. 😄I understand the band originated in Europe, and some members were in the U.S. Army there. Nice! I remember hearing this on the radio when I was a kid. If there's such a thing as classic disco, this song is it -- groovy bass line over a solid beat, funky guitar licks, horn flourishes in just the right spots, and the falsetto in the bridge like icing on the cake. Break out the strobe light and the roller skates! Another great song from 1978 that goes well with this is The O'Jays "Use Ta Be My Girl". "The Groove Line" tastefully quotes KC & The Sunshine Band in a couple of passages. KC & The Sunshine Band dropped "That's the Way (I Like It)", "(Shake, Shake, Shake) Shake Your Booty", "Keep It Comin' Love", "Get Down Tonight", and "Boogie Shoes" among their other tunes.

This song, both short and long versions, the long version is the best!; provided a window of peace, groove, and simple enjoyment of who you were dancing with. It was transfixing, sexy, and such a welcome escape for so many to just enjoy the music, and company. One of my very favourite songs and to this date, imho, unequalled. And I came upon this channel by being a fan of this song, but to the hostess, honestly mercy please.

Angela - How many cups do you have anyway? lol A little history on Heatwave. They are from Dayton, Ohio. Rod Temperton was one of the members of this group. He wrote this one as well as Always & Forever and Boogie Nights. He also wrote Rock With You, that Heatwave turned down. He gave it to Michael Jackson and the rest is history. Zapp also was from Dayton, Ohio. Computer Love amongst others they are known for. Roger Troutman was shot and killed by his own family over drugs. Very sad really. Funny enough, Dayton, Ohio is a stone throw away from Columbus, Ohio where I am from. And Columbus does not have any major recording acts coming from it. And Dayton is half the size of Columbus. Nice reaction Angela. The Groove Line is a disco classic.
