- There are lots of reasons to buy a car: style, speed, practicality, efficiency, and they all are totally valid. But when a car serves no purpose beyond making the driver happy at all times, few cars satisfy the way the V12 Vantage S does.

I've been watching this video every year withouth fail since 2014, and that speech about Aston Martin still hits home
That speech about Aston Martin as a brand was awesome.
Also, that engine sounds absolutely wild.
Been a fan since the beginning, and didn't think the cinematography could get better, but it did. And continues to, it's very impressive.
Finally getting around to watching this and holy crap, another spectacular review. Your Vanquish review already sold me on wanting an Aston Martin, but this one is even more spectacular. Your points are so spot on. These reviews on The Smoking Tire are hands down my favorite on TH-cam. Keep up the flippin' fantastic work. Really hope you can get your hands on a Jag F-Type R Coupe. Would love to hear your take on it. Your F-Type Roadster review was awesome.
We're filming the F-Type R Coupe in June. Wish it could be earlier, but we get track time with it, so it's worth the wait.
TheSmokingTire Oh awesome, thanks for responding! I'll be looking forward to it!
Seriously one of the best filmed Smoking Tire video's I've seen.
Hands down the best car reviewer in the world. Keep it up!
best review ever. when my dad bought an aston i was sad cuz i thought a ferrari would've been better. but now i know how much more emotional an aston is.
Btw: my dad wasnt born rich. he earned it through 26 yrs of hard work as an engineer. so ya folks out there . no reason to get angry.
Sick story bro...
Riveting tale lad

I drive my 13 Mustang GT and wish it was this car!!
Never disappointed watching any video of this great car!
"… quote a lap time that they personally can't replicate." Love it!
Matt, I have to say this. You are 1000% correct. I agree with you completely.
my favorite car review of all time
Now THAT is a well thought out, well put together and overall awesome car review! TST you guys did awesome with this one!
Liking the new review style. Well put together! Keep these awesome videos coming!!
Thank you for the amazing fotage of my city.... I love LA and Aston Martin.
started in the mailroom and we still here.
Literally one of the sexiest cars ever.
My Head says 911 turbo or GT3, my soul says 458 Italia, but my heart and groin agree on V12 Vantage S. Too bad my family and wallet say GTI.
Matt Thanks for a great review! You put into works what I have been thinking for other cars and drivers. Thanks your so right!
Great car, and a review which was spot on as mentioned below...
Nice use of the Raptor's lights...
I sold the Raptor 6 months ago. To do this we mounted three 600W spotlights on the front of my van with a running generator in the back. Not something I'd really recommend, it was mega sketchy.
TheSmokingTire Oh haha
This car can now be purchased for $95,000-$130,000. I cannot wait until I buy one.
"It's for someone whose been through the struggle and come out on the other side smelling like money and pussy"- Matt Farah
A quote to live and die by.
Amazing loved the car and the review ! Makes me wanna have one. Really nice car !
Fantastic!
Dark Red or Dark Blue would be nice :)
No lights that turn into the curve?
TheSmokingTire what year is this V12 Vantage S?
This is GOOD!
***** those aren't regular cars...
halabi97 RegularCars
Review an old Aston!
review a lada do something different xd
Yup
It does irritate me that people base everything on a bunch of arbitrary numbers on paper. DRIVE the damn car and see how you feel! Great video!
This is by far the best review by TST. Period.
*Darkest
I agree 100%! The editing, video, voice over, everything, brought to a new level. Keep them coming TST!
naww they've had much better. But the car is great.
bet me too it, very very good review
Yup, that's an instant classic. Just like the car
"Its the guy that comes out the other end and smells like money and... pussy!" Hahaha I just died right there.
that comment had me rollin'
One thing nobody ever mentions....the sound of the Aston Martin engines. Best sounding cars I've ever heard
Similar to a Mustang in it’s distinctness; when you hear it you know what it is. I also like how the doors scissor up and outward just slightly enough to notice.
"Aston Martin is.....for someone who has been through the struggle and come out on the other side smelling of money......and pussy".
Just nailed it right there Matt. Great review.
Matt, always an awesome review. They should have you on Top Gear USA instead of the those 3 dudes that lack charisma. Keep up the awesome work
WHY DONT YOU PRESENT TOP GEAR USA .....IF IT WERE LIKE THIS PEOPLE WOULD ACTUALLY WATCH IT
you truly are the greatest automotive journalist ever!
Matt. make for videos like this bro. take a little break from the one takes. these videos are quality.
The intro of the video is breathtaking, you Matt and your crew are making a gr8 job out there. And of course the Aston Martin is an amazing car. The paint color, wow. Ty guys for this.
I just LOVE this video. The city, night, and interior shots. It's something different. I don't normally see night videos like this, but it's a nice change. And the car itself it amazing. This is why Aston Martin is Aston Martin. Really well made video!
You'd think a 200,000 dollar car would have a nicer looking steering wheel.
Love the comments about people buying sports cars for "someone else". I feel like this explains why so many buyers are choosing to go with DCT for "performance reasons", or for new models with sacrifices like EPS that are supposedly performance oriented.
Mr. Farah, I take issue with you saying that Aston Martin is not a flashy brand, I think it is very much a wealthy playboy sportscar, and it is very flashy in that color yellow. But then again, I am a car nerd and my POV is skewed.
Also, I like the idea of filming at night, it makes that yellow paint job really pop. NOBODY ever films car reviews at night, bonus points for thinking outside the box and being original
It's not flashy compared to a Lamborghini Gallardo, which costs the same.
TheSmokingTire any car that is out of my price range is flashy .
Aston makes cars that set standards for how a car makes you feel. Like super expensive watches. Your phone has the time but some people want a watch that makes them feel a certain way. Aston makes cars with beautiful sounding engines and times less shaped bodies that won't make you feel dumb in 3 - 5 years.
Here in ATL if I see a Ferrari I think "show off" but if I see an Aston I simply appreciate it. They just keep to their Brand values and stay out of the rat race. If you are making that kind of $$ don't you want an escape from the rat race?
Seriously, stop putting rims on cars people. Any car. Your fwd is not a drift car. Why do you have so much camber, it is now worthless. Those big flashy rims on your muscle car just made you slower. Your expensive German car came with amazing rims, way to screw it up. Your flashy italian car is now ugly. Ok Ill stop, im done
I agree I'm from the south where a lot of people do that I be really disgusted smh 😩😩😩
hmmm i put rims on my car to make it my own .......if i could afford one of these rims it will have imported from japan black .....then when i get to work i have to take five minutes just looking at my bad ass ride .....THAT is truly one of one even if all my buddy's at the gulf club has one #donthateonrims
Light weight mono-block wheels actually improve performance over stock in most if not all cases. I would agree though that most aftermarket rims are kind of crappy looking.
It's all in what you like. On this aston I wouldn't go any bigger than 22''. As for something like a 75 caprice convertable nothing less than 24'' will do. A suburban tahoe or yukon gets nothing less than 26''. The wheel well on cars today are so big even 20s look small. But if it's a sports car no bigger than 20s. Super cars should go no bigger than 22s. Different wheel make you stand out. I would get some 20'' HPE carbon fiber wheels with 305 sectionals on the front and 335s on the rear. That alone should pull 50 lbs of rotational weight out of the car alone.
I would put rims on, but wouldn't go way overboard like most youths.
This is one of the best TH-cam car reviews ever imo
i think the "numbers" thing has to do with how many of us have grown up with technology our whole lives. every year computers are "new and improved" and if new technology is not faster by at least 20 percent over the model it replaces then it is just cast aside as a let-down or a rip-off or whatever. Our culture is now about seeing PROGRESS seeing the new things smash the old things and leave them in the dust. Very few people talk about Tradition anymore. Things are rarely considered "timeless". So few products are created that stand the test of time or progress everything must be replaced by something new. Our culture does not appreciate or strive for craftsmanship or quality its get as much as you can for as cheap as you can. Seeing brands like Astin Martin still around surviving makes my heart happy.
"And don't put rims on it" You sir are the first American that makes sense to me!
Xd
Ah that engine note! Only wish there were more engine noises in the video.
Such a wicked side profile this car has.
Yeah, after the first 10 seconds of in-car the suction cup that held on the exhaust microphone failed and it came off the car and went under the wheel. I ran it over and it crushed into about 50 pieces. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. Such is life.
TheSmokingTire
Ah that's fair - Still, what has been shown has pleased the senses as much as a video can. Thanks!
TheSmokingTire Meh, you can probably buy a new one from the billions you earn in YOUTUUUUUBE MONAAAAAAY!
I'm more of a d*ck head, not an a$$hole, so yeah I'd put rims on it and the freshest ones I can find with a fat lip!
Thank you for saying what I was thinking. A set of high dollar HRE's for that high dollar Aston.
I agree...you got it right on everything with this car or we agree on everything this time! Those Astons and Jags have a nice sound, GB is doin it right!
I would do unspeakable things just to drive an v12 vantage, or a DBS!
monkeyhagu , take one for a test drive. It doesn’t cost anything
this is a grown man's car elegant and ageless I swear I will own one forget the flashy lambo's and ferrari's I'll take a Aston any day
The intro had me dying but it's true tho
I have a v8 vantage and I'm so glad I went for the Aston for the brand. Such incredible cars
How has your Vantage been so far mate? My dad is thinking about getting one.
@@seanyworny104 they are very reliable and cheap to fix if something breaks, my fuel pump failed at 86,000 miles and I got one for 220$ from an F-250.
@@seanyworny104 lol 1 year late. I wrote mine off but perfect car so engaging! Would get another any day
Matt, great review, but I have a question! which would you buy? jaguar F type R vs corvette c7? how bout when you throw in the Aston and a 911 in the mix? is it worth the extra cash compared to two? Thanks for the help!
Had to watch this one twice.. Top review.. I think what I like most about TheSmokingTire is the fact that it feels like I'm in the passenger seat. It's tricky to pull off but Matt Farah seems to pull it off consistently. Solute.
The only downside to filming at night . . . was that I couldn't see anything inside the car (e.g., steering wheel, seats, etc.). I could barely see the exterior due to the dim lighting. Cool/unique concept but better lighting will help in the future.
hands down the gearbox sucks monkeyballs, wont spend 200k for an outdated transmission.put in dual clutch and Im gonna buy one for sure.
Aston Martin likes to donate cars. They donated an '06 DB9 Volante test car to my school's automotive tech shop.
Is the One-77 not considered production. Its not just Matt that calls it the quickest Aston ever.
Even Vantage V8 with stick it will fill my desires.
that intro was very touching
Matt - I think this is one of your best videos yet... Great job conveying the awesome simplicity & raw beauty of this lust-worthy automobile. Few cars make me 'tingle' like an Aston Martin, and the Vantage S is on my very short list of 'what to purchase should I hit the lottery'... Thanks for this super vid!
At the beginning of the video I was like go that color is ugly but wow its amazing what 9:04 make now I actually like it a lot. Great video Matt keep up the great work!
Damn that last comment about being alone with your thoughts sold me. Wish I had the money.
I must be an asshole because I would put rims... And probably chrome it too... I love chrome cars
Yep.
Me, on the other hand, I would leave the rims. IMO, they suit the car well with the two-tone black and yellow trim. Not sure about other people, but the grill isn't doing too much for me. Personally, I think it shows too much behind the bumper. Maybe the horizontal lines across would suit it better, but hey, just my take.
I have the 2011 car. You get this car and brand more than most people.
Great review Matt. You really know how to describe the feeling of the car to us viewers.
I think many presumed buyers also look at what they are buying in regard to tech. Aston's engine and gearbox are old by now and not at par with the competition since they simply don't have the money to invest in new tech as often as their competitors. So as a buyer you know you're buying old tech at a very high price. Yes it's special but $200K special?
I think the rewards from driving a car with a V12 engine far outweigh the drawbacks of having a transmission that doesn't shift quite as fast as the Ferrari 458's, especially when you consider that, in practice, the V2 Vantage is nearly $75k cheaper than a 458.
Also probably your greatest Smoking Tire video ever. Keep it up. Extremely high quality film.
Great video. Gotta disagree with you on one thing though... I think Aston's are very flashy. For 200k it might not be the "best" (however you want to define that word), but it sure as hell is the sexiest and really catches your eye
park it next to a Ferrari 458 and see which car people take more photos of.
The closing comments sums up today's car enthusiast right down to the *T*. There's too many insecure, egotistic douche bags out there these days. Who does nothing but spew, "I can do blah blah blah this. And run a blah blah blah that. And I only paid blah blah blah for it." I rarely see anyone on the internet talk about driving pleasure, and how a car makes them feel. All I see are bunch of hot shots bragging about numbers. That's all I'm seeing are numbers. Like a bunch of mindless calculators, who believes a cars worth is based on how fast it goes. They don't care about driving pleasure. All they care about is "smashing everything on the road". Which is why this car industry seems to be losing a lot of its character and originality...
I don't know where you've been, but I've seen a lot of people talk about driving pleasure.
Nailed it!
Matt. This was fantastic.
Head says porsche. Heart says aston. Love this car. Awesome
*Dammit Tracy!*
Or was it Lindsay or Denise...?
this was a really great video, all these points were spot on.
Matt literally moonlighting as a car journalist.
not just a review but a story and an opinion. love it
Matt if you had a choice (I know they're not exactly competitors just a random comparo) between the Aston Martin V12 Vantage S or the C63 AMG Black Series which would you choose ?
Aston every time.
Production quality was pretty good considering the uber lowlight conditions and limited budget. Hope the channel keeps growing
Love the night shots. Great video guys.
Man that review is so on point!!! My respect sir! (Proud owner of a V12S SS and a V12 MT which I changed the rims on ahah).
That San Francisco part at the beginning was a bit harsh. I'd watch it a bit just so you don't turn anyone off your videos.
yeah those rich millionaire app developers can be so sensitive
TheSmokingTire media2.giphy.com/media/4oylovitnWBLa/giphy.gif
Those poor souls. How will they ever cope.
whatever
It's called sarcasm and he has a point. How can WhatsApp be worth $19 billion?
Because the purpose of the world is to cater to the sensitivities of assholes in San Francisco. I keep forgetting.
I truly love Astons but I truly hate how archaic the interiors are. If they stepped up the interiors and some of the more mundane functioning parts then I'd be totally sold.
I really don't see a problem with their interiors, especially now since there is the Q service that could do anything your mind thinks of to the car. The dashboard still looks great for a few more years, wouldn't change anything at that.
Yeah, if you're stuck in the 1990's the user interface looks great.
fuck yea. Awesome review, you encompassed exactly what Aston Martin is all about. All the people saying "same design from 5 yrs ago" boohoo, then get something else. The design is timeless. I'll take an Aston Over any car, any day (not that I can afford one.....But!, if I could!)
Should have said "self-indulgent wieners" lol
The car in my mind for "I've finally made it" would be a tuned and debadged C63. Everyone who doesn't know thinks its a C250 shitbox, but every time I walk up to it in a parking lot I would think "yeah this thing is awesome".
t: 8:49 . It seems recently the definition of 'asshole' has changed. Why somebody is an asshole because they ruined a great look with donkish rims is beyond me. Douchey, tacky, trashy -- yes. I've always thought asshole was somebody who is a mean-hearted prick. Is 'asshole' the new hipsteresque way to say 'douche' because saying douche is now a bit...douchey? /random question
Great car! Love your videos! You and I are surely soul brothers!
Thanks
-JP
Aston Martin is James Bond's brand
Matt Farah speaks the truth and I respect him for it.
Men, if my days were booked with only work and I'd have fat stacks to blow, I'd invest more and buy me something for a businessman who wants to drive and be chauffeured: S65... :)
this is really is good and i love the night shots too! I also want to give props to you matt for pointing out that last bit @ 7:50 you said about people buying it for the wrong reasons, its true in a lot of different areas of the car scene.
This was a different side of the smoking tire to view. The music, the night driving, Matt and his leather jacket with furr and a toque! It was good to see a review and listen to an opinion about a car that isn't the flashiest and world's fastest super car out there. Tons of respect to you, Matt. People out there may have millions of dollars to own all the nice cars you review, but in my mind, you live the dream by driving and testing all of them.
I'm from Eastern Europe and to be honest no one actually buys these kind of cars and many people have a lot of money, in most cases people rent them for a few weeks trash them and return them, or buy them used from more developed countries trash them for a year and sell them to someone else, than buy the next thing. Well imagine buying a Lambo, if its just the drive and the thrills you want what's wrong with used one, you buy a year or two old Lambo at 60% of original price, and after a year sell it for 55% but in that time you avoid a bitch part of owning a supercar, servicing it, repairing it, changing tyres and so on.
That is what you do to enjoy a car for what it is, many people that buy these cars are doing it to impress as Matt says and buying a several year old car is not impressive. Its why the V12 Vantage gets overlooked by many because it looks pretty much like a regular Vantage which is several years old. Shame because its widely regarded as the best thing to have come out of the reborn Aston Martin company.
This is by far the best review of this car i´ve seen so far. Great work! Regards from Portugal!
There's something about the styling that bothers me. Although I would enjoy the hell out of this machine, there's a handful of cars I'd take over it with little hesitation. '14 911 Turbo S, R8 V10 Plus, F-Type R, California and even the 430 Scuderia come to mind. .
A night time review! Finally! (Even if it was 7 years ago!) Honestly, my favorite time to drive the hills and valleys...Not the safest time to drive the twisties, mind you, but the most rewarding because of the very difficulty and stress of it; one wrong move, or lapse in attention, and you're gone...This superb review is a knowing nod to the brave souls that dare 👍 And, what a fine automobile!
I still would choose the Jaguar F-type V6-S over this. It's too vulgar, a bit too flamboyant for my style. Though the Aston has better build quality. Jaguar should build a NA V12 to replace the R-version. What do you guys think?
I love one takes and all but I will ALWAYS come back to reviews like this to remember the golden age of automotive TH-cam. Back when TST made cinematic film masterpieces, /Drive was still a channel that existed, MT on demand wasn't around, and there were quality videos all around. Every once in a while a channel will come and bring back reviews like this, recently it was drivetribe but unfortunately that has already pretty much after a year. TH-cam does not cultivate an environment for videos like this anymore, it is not sustainable for channels anymore, and unless TH-cam changes their ad policies for the better, then the end of the golden age of automotive TH-cam will be permanent!
That opening description just may sums up the next 5 years of my life, but I'll pass on the [censored by youtube], as that's just not my style.
I define success by the happiness and quality of character I see in my wife and children. Money can't buy that, only hard work and being a father will get me those true riches.
As for the car I will drive home to them, I have come to understand that at the $100k price range I can buy someone else's idea of what a luxury sports car is, or I can have my own, unique, bespoke, exists for my sole enjoyment, mode of transportation designed specifically to fit my desires and wants. And I can have that for far less than any top end Aston Martin or any other car in its class.
