- Nebraska football coach Matt Rhule returned to the microphone on Monday in Lincoln, revisiting several topics related to the Huskers’ big loss on Saturday at Indiana, the upcoming matchup with Ohio State and various aspects of his team’s mindset and mentality through seven games.
This week has taken on a darker tone than any time in Rhule’s two seasons. The coach brought up an old topic - the tendency of Nebraska players to feel like it’s all going to go wrong after a bad turn of events. Rhule shared more on his thought process ahead of the last game. And he explained what would happen if the Huskers don’t take the right approach into a clash this week with the fourth-ranked Buckeyes.

This is a weird conversation. We didn't lose a one score game by throwing an interception or fumbling a punt. That's what I'd expect from carry over from the Frost era. On Saturday we tied our shoes together and fell on our face. That's not a Frost thing. That's a this year thing. 65% of the team is under class men. So they don't know Frost mistakes. This is their own. And I think Rhule kinda owned it. Maybe?
MY concern is the look in his eyes after the game on Friday. That was a "I'm defeated and I don't know what to do" look. Maybe he's worried about the "feedback" from fans and media. But, I think Rhule is still doing a lot of things correctly. So I'm going to brush this loss off and keep moving. Knowing we need to not focus on the IU loss for too long, otherwise we will look way worse next week against tOSU.
Plus, maybe IU is a top 10 team? What if they make it to the playoffs? Maybe they are that good. If we get millywhopped (fun word!) By Ohio State or Oregon or Michigan under Harbaugh then we look at it as if they are a superior team and we aren't there yet. What if IU is that good this year?

When Coach Prime arrived at Colorado to a 1-11 team, he told those losers they had to go. and he was bringing Louie luggage. He knew that trying to revamp a team with a losing mentality was not happening. He got rid of the entire squad and rebuilt it through the portal with players who had the mentality that he knew would get on board with his program. Of course, it had a rough start but even at that, 4-8 was a 3-game improvement. Coach Prime revamped new life into the Buffalos squad while selling out home and road games with high TV ratings. Coach Matt Rule scuffed at and belittled Coach Prime's rebuilding method and look at which Coach's program is thriving and winning. Those leftovers from the Scott Frost era and before are contaminating the new guys. Give Riola some fresh new winning blood to play with and new winning coaches, then see Nebraska get back on track to winning championships again. I'm a UNL grad from the Bob Devany, Johnny Rodgers era. We weren't used to losing to anybody.
What a strange take considering Nebraska beat CU and has a better record. They have nothing to do with why IU rolled our boys.
@@qhc85 CU kicked NU's ass last year and Ohio State will kick NU's ass Saturday. You guys are old school outdated in terms of recruiting. The old, out-of-style method of high school recruiting has changed with NIL and the portal. This is why Nick Saban retired. He didn't want to deal with the new model. Even if you get a high school kid to commit, he can choose between who has the biggest bag i.e., money to offer and that still won't guarantee he'll stay with the program to develop. Greedy UNLV's quarterback quitting mid-season is a great example. Like I said, I'm a UNL grad. As a long time Lincolnite, I know Nebraskans are stuck in the past and slow to come up to present time. Matt Rule fits in perfectly with you guys. And having the personality of a dial tone, he is not a draw for star talent or media ratings.

It has to be so fun for other teams to play Nebraska. We’re easier than FCS teams. Just take it easy, keep players healthy, get some young guys experience, give the fans a show, etc.
When Mickey Joseph came in, suddenly we looked like a team that had a fighting chance at games. We were underdogs in every facet of football but the players actually seemed like they wanted to fight for it. Rhule's teams seem closer to Frost teams which is a huge flag so far. I have to wonder if the "hear we go again" would disappear if we had better fundamentals and played precision football. Like you can lose and but still do your assignments and be meticulous in the little details. This seems to be missing from the Frost Era and now the Rhule era. Indiana is a good team but what they are doing is playing sound fundamental football. At some point, what they inherited just sounds like a stupid excuse. If you can't play sound football, then get guys in their that will go in and fight no matter what.
Watch the Tunnel Walk (stroll) before the Illinois game. Entitled, pampered, egotistical f-wads. Hope they get pantsed on Sat and benched. Recruit locals, run the ball.

Doesn’t matter who recruited the players. The ones recruited by rhule are also only seeing a losing culture. Not just going to magically go away in a couple years when frost players are gone. They need to win now.
But his older players still have the Frost mental fragility.

Yea there’s no improvement in the mental game. We will be searching for our 6th win and it will become the thorn in the teams side that makes them play tight as hell. Gifford is supposed to be the leader and he’s a non factor at this point this year. Perimeter blocking is a giant problem. I don't know how you could say it's not. I can't count the number of plays where a wr was one on one on the edge and wasn't able to hold his block when if he did, the ball carrier would gain 10+ yards. Instead they are tackled for 4 yards or less, or it's a holding penalty.
Huskers could give up well over 100 points in a two game span. The defense is supposed to be strength of this team! This team is a absolute mess!

I feel like I’m still living in Nebraska, listening to “Big Red Overreaction”. Put it simply, the way to trade stocks is to look at long term trends. People who buy and sell stock based on short term emotion always lose money. It’s entirely possible Indiana is a top 5 team. And they caught Nebraska on a bad day. Hard to say but I look at how a team doing over 4-6 weeks.
Would be nice to see positivity from this fan base for once. How do you think the players and coaches feel knowing the fan base can turn on them so quick? Pretty sad. The days of undefeated perfect seasons is OVER for anyone. The transfer portal means every team can be competitive.
It was a bad loss, get over it. Nebraska is 5-2 right now and people are crying. They could totally be 8-4 or even 9-3 this season and that would be great. Even if they’re 7-5 or 6-6, that’s still progression.
Imagine as an analyst, you would be on the hot seat if you predicted a game wrong. Or 3 games wrong in a row. Having 3 million people expecting you to predict right or they’re going to be upset. Writing you letters. Have some empathy.

If you're old enough to have experienced the 70's, 80's or 90's as a Husker fan... relish it. Hold it near and dear because we aren't EVER experiencing that kind of success again. The college football landscape left NU in the dust awhile ago and the move to the B10 made that gap even further. All... and I mean ALL of the advantages the program had in those 3 decades are totally obsolete now. Embrace 6-6 or 7-5 as really good seasons.

We need to stop freaking out about one game, Indiana is very good. & better go back & look at why we didnt score much, i watched it back every time we wrre driving down to score Riola tgeew an INT his ankle has neen bothering him since Illinois , sad cause he hasn't been playing like himself since then, i think thats sad. Apparently, Dylan has an ankle injury, so who’s going to start at quarterback I think they should have Dylan rest his ankle. He definitely won’t be able to play.
Take that info with a grain of salt. I know he was caught limping Saturday. But the rumor he has been injured since Illinois idk. I couldn't even find that tweet Wilson Ditmon mentioned in his video. He can do some good work for an 18 year old. But he's also has jumped on things with out much proof. I.e. the Knighton story.

Like when he said he had an inside source that told him Micah M. had quit the team and was long gone. He's had to take a few videos down because his solid facts turn out to not be true. We were celebrating the fact that not that many players went into the portal and left, maybe we just need to get rid of that loser mentality by overhauling. Indiana players are transfer portal players that have a winning mentality
