- Huge thanks to Golf Pride for making the best golf grips on the planet. Head over to golfpride.com/ to check out their selection.
In today's video we travel to Scotland to learn why the birthplace of golf would turn its back on the sport of golf, making it illegal for over 50 years.
We travel from Edinburgh to Dornoch to St Andrews in search of answers.

This is the stuff that makes RGC so great. The storytelling is always top tier
Love this !!!
The history…the mystery…the theories 🤩
The AMAZING artifacts ♥️
The hatchet…”Van Golf” 🤣🤣🤣
This has got to be one of the most interesting videos to me that you have produced ! 🥰
Well done !!!
Eric is just an absolute genius at this format. This is the standard that all others aspire to be.
I would give up every course vlog, every match, in favor of more content like this. Something about EAL in Scotland is magic.
Eric, you're ability to tell the story around the golf, to find the best people to talk to, and to perfectly encapsulate the reasons we all play this game in unparalleled. Never stop making short films like this.
Thanks for the kind words man :)
100%
Well said
EAL's journalism ability is top notch. Love this kind of content
I just love it! And I know this kind of footage takes a long time to produce, but the gaps between those „movies“ are just to big.
Amazing short film... a work of art! I would give it a thousand thumbs up if possible. Very interesting as well to learn more about the history of golf and as a Dutchman had to smile a bit on the "true" origin of the game.
I could watch stuff like this all day, I always enjoy when you guys tell stories, you do a great job.
Great one, EAL. Excited to see you guys again at mad scramble in Dallas!
Watching a Random Golf Club production is like going to a local art gallery expecting student work and finding Rothkos, Pollocks, and Matisses instead.
Best golf documentaries on youtube! Well done as always! The Wes Anderson short hits home for my taste. 👏 👏
Thanks Eric, four episodes in and I am hooked. Dornoch is one of my favourite towns!
Just a quick thank you to the folks at RGC. I love every peace of content you guys put out. It's so well done. Hats off to you all.
Appreciate it man!
Phenomenal Erik. Masterful and so so interesting. You’re the best by a mile. Well done RGC
When we think we know golf, this drops. Amazing job and storytelling either here or doing AIG is always fun and makes me smile.
Keep it up brother! We need more videos from you guys !
Workin' on it!
2:47 that transition though
Need a bunch more of these, great stuff
Fantastic as always, RGC Crew.
Thanks for watching!
Why is this not several hours long... Much respect RGC x (No Glove - Robin Dow is the caddy everyone expects after spending 4 figures in Scotland :D)
It's great to see RGC returning to the roots of what made it so great. Looking forward to more of this content!
Really good episode!
Feel like it would be hard to edit down into a 22 minute runtime but you managed well.
But I watch everything at 2x speed so maybe that's why it seemed short 😂
Eric and Crew………thanks for another amazing show!
God Bless!
EAL and RGC are filmmakers that love golf. Rick Shiels, Peter Finch, Bob does Sports and much of the rest - are golfers or influencers who try and make films. The difference is found in short, emotionally engaging films like this. Beautifully shot, edited, presented and delivered.
These are brilliant stories and compelling viewing. You should also check out The Links Diary stories too Tom!
Superb, thank you
funnily just got the same grips on my irons recently :D good choice
and as always stunning and beautiful video and editing
This was a bit unexpected…a truly well made bit of documentary film making! I thoroughly enjoyed it. Well done gentlemen!!!
Love your vids dude.
Thanks man!
The name of the beach at the end is East Sands - there's a lovely cafe there.
A brilliant video guys.
What a story. So cool!
Just put the honorary starter grips on myself. Love them.
Great video EAL…see you in Ireland for the RGC “Ireland Major” !
Can't wait!
Great stuff thank you ❤
Glad you enjoyed it
The grassy piece of land by the beach at the and of the video, up until about 10 years ago used to have a putting green for the public on it.
Great story about Golf - it is truly an exeptional game - TY very much indeed Eric
Glad you enjoyed :)
St Andrews is a magical place ❤
Erik’s an honorary Celtic fan now too🤣☘️🏌️♂️
I knew the word "Celtic" was coming, I bought green and white grips for my clubs lol! Mon THe Hoops! The pedestrian bridge over the river in St Andrews, I used to fish from that, mostly caught crabs lol. Kinkell Braes caravan site up on the hill we used to stay there once a year.
Great film! Out of curiosity: did you hear anything about a King having a sword smelted to make a set of golf clubs? I once heard a story of (I think) James VI & I symbolically doing so after a war with the English, but can find no reference to it online…
Solid video erik
St. Andrews is a gem stuck in time. If you haven't visited yet, add it to your list. The whole town is the experience.
COMPLETELY agree
Where is this Edinbro you speak of ?
You should go play the pitch and put at Bruntsfield links in Edinburgh. It was where the 4th oldest club was started.
Adding this to our list!!
merci beaucoup
5:35 "Edinbro".
Bro!
In Western isles golf still can't be played on Sundays
NEW AIG Season dropping????
The awkwardness was palpable with the archery historian
Amazing
Was watching this with my cat, whos name is vincent van golf.. hah
Sounds like a trip to Poland might be needed
so you're telling me that this ISNT Adventures In Golf?
Great, an excuse to go back to Scotland. Legit the best place on earth
My type of content.
Big golf gloves watching
John Rattray is a very famous skateboarder, lots of people know what he looks like 😜
You don’t explain why was golf banned on behalf of archery. It was because the King was concerned that men wouldn’t be enough well trained in archery and prepared for war when the war time would come. He was afraid that the soldiers would be distracted with sports instead of war training. You should complete this video
The two fingered salute is archery related. The Normans cut off English archers index and middle fingers so s they could nt pull back the bowstring, two fingers up to The Normans was an insult
Not sure on the accuracy if you pardon the pun of the etymology of the idioms from the archer you had on, strange fellow.
It's not Edin-boRo...it's Edinburha
Golf... banned??? Blasphemous!!!!
♥
They still have alcohol banned at soccer games....
Wish I’d known you were going to be here…would’ve invited you for a hit
400 some vid when
Tuesday
What is this fascination with background music lately? Bye...
Is it not in the afternoon that foursomes are played, not the morning ?
Golf should still be banned! Too many young people lose their lives each year just because of golf. Just say no!
Greatest game and most skillfull
