    Fun fact:
    Of all the dragonflights, the bronze flight was united for the longest time, even though they lost their aspect from burning crusade to the end of cataclysm. You could argue that the infinite flight is a splinter faction, but they are technically future or alternate versions that come to interfere with the prime-timeline.
    The blue dragonflight was almost shattered during the war of the ancients, when Deathwing betrayed them. Malygos became insane (not the evil kind, but the babbling madman kind). Many of their kind died or went off to do their own thing. Like the blue dragon that was a worldboss in classic-azshara. When the aspects regained their powers, the blue dragons might have reunited but it was only after Malygos regained his sense (after vaping some Nether-drakes) did they truly unite to start a holy war against anyone abusing magic.
    The red dragonflight was united for pretty long but then Alexstraza was imprisoned by the old horde and forced to breed free mounts. The rest of the flight did not dare to interfere in case something happened to her. Only after destroying the demon-soul were they united once more. But as far as I know, there were feral red dragonkin in classic-wetlands that were left behind.
    The green dragonflight had a problem with the emerald nightmare and we could kill them during classic because they were driven mad. Ysera was also VERY deep asleep and barely anyone could contact her. They also lost their other leader, the main-consort Eranikus in the sunken temple.
    The black dragonflight was seemingly rabid since the war of the ancients. While they all worked towards Deathwing's goal, they almost never cooperated. Nefarian conquered the blackrock, Onyxia manipulated Stormwind and Sinestra experimented on the next model of the UBERdragon, using her own eggs and netherdrake-essence. They all only submitted to Deathwing, who was unaviable many times throuout history.

    Stories and games should aim to keep the player character below a dnd 5e level 10. When we become able to kill world/galaxy level threats powerscaling becomes ephemeral. Its why vanilla through wotlk felt good, biggest baddies were relatively less existential based on powerscaling compared to more recent expansions.

    Aren’t our actions ingame representative of some NPC actions/motivations (questgiver). So from Thrall’s perspective you didn’t do all the things but instead we experinced what the NPCs did.
    For example if your character comes to a military outpost surrounded by demons and the commander gives you a quest to kill 100 demons that you complete, then what ”really happened” in the world was that the soldiers at the outpost repelled the demons, not that one supernatural creature yolomurdered them…

    I'm still convinced that one subtle clarification would change so much when it comes to people's perceptions of Shadowlands...if they would only clarify when Denathrius allied with Zovaal. People act like they were working together the entire time, but if it were a more recent alliance then the other parts of "The Jailer was behind everything the entire time" don't apply as much. It's a simple change/clarification but one with much larger implications.

  • @user-uq4gr5nl5o

    Deathwing didn't invent the Hour of Twilight. The HoT was an Old God prophecy that was about them destroying the world. In Cataclysm they used Deathwing to try to bring it about. That's why the Aspects had fullfiled their purpose after defeating him. It's not circular.

    Classic does feel like more of a connevted adventure. The reason is that I classic you do 75% of the questing stories during level just to hit the end. In retail a single character gets flashes of a dozen old zones at max. Even if you do one expansion you miss chunks. And in modern expansions raid are so vital you feel confused about what's happened.

    Around the 14:00 mark: I think what's under this feeling that the older expansions were better is really just setup. I feel like WoW could do a lot better on the story front if they actually took the time to set up future stories properly, as opposed to (often) just giving them a prepatch and an out of game expo presentation. It might end up feeling rushed, I don't know, but imagine if WoW's expansion cycle was like: x.0 - main story. x.1 - continuation. x.2 - cleanup/climax. x.3 - setup for new expansion. And then repeat that.
    Ultimately, I think it would be even better if they were able to separate story from gameplay updates, allowing them to do small storylines to accentuate current ongoings and set up future things. I really hate what they've done with the jailor, but it wouldn't have come as such a sudden blow if they'd managed to sneak in even relatively small storylines/quests that just might suggest that there's something or someone behind what's going on. It IS ridiculous that Azeroth suffered a string of massive disasters in the span of like 5 years, isn't it? Maybe there's someone behind it. That could easily have been in-game, in-story speculation and hinting. Obviously they couldn't have done that back during the Warcraft games, because the Jailor wasn't invented yet. But operating on the assumption that they have at least an idea of what the central villain/story of a new expansion will be 1-2 expansions beforehand, this -should- be possible.
    I'm just fantasizing, I know. But honestly, WoW just needs some Chekhov's Gun. In the game. Presented to the players.
    Also, really like the Crendor/Nobbel duo. Keep it up.

  • @theclosk99

    In regard to the time skip, you say that from Vanilla to Shadowlands has only been a few years, yet both Anduin and the Blood Elf orphan we meet in TBC have aged over 10 years in that same span, so it's been at least a decade, not just a few years. In fact, it seems like Anduin aged about 10 years just from Vanila to Pandaria.

    • @kornkorn4202
      @kornkorn4202 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've always figured Anduin to be about 10 in classic, and 20 by shadowlands, so in MoP (if my math is right) he'd be like... 14-15? Maybe he's aged fast because of stress

    • @charlylmaoo5953
      @charlylmaoo5953 ปีที่แล้ว

      Anduin definitely has not aged 10 years Vanilla to Shadowlands.
      Anduin is 10 in classic, 15 in MoP during the events of War Crimes, and 18 in Battle for Azeroth. Those are the 3 confirmed aged for him and when we get them as far as I’m aware. That means Anduin will be around 23 by the start of Dragonflight (Shadowlands taking 2 years start to finish + the 3 year timeskip before Dragonflight).

    • @theclosk99
      @theclosk99 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@charlylmaoo5953 So he aged 8 years, not 10. Wow just 2 years off what I said. Point is it's still more than just a couple of years. Thank you for confirming that it was more than just a couple of years

    Hope I'm not venturing into the territory of head-cannon here. I don't really give the Jailer "Mastermind" status in the lore. Sure he was involved in alot of what happened, but alot of stuff happened without him. We have slightly more information on what was going on behind the scenes, but there was soo much chance behind some of the events that one could hardly say that he planned it all. Some stuff worked out, some didn't, some REALLY worked out, some REALLY didn't (he did lose after all).
    I guess I just don't find the Jailer that important. Alot of what happens on Azeroth has zero to do with him. So, I just find him another villian in this huge web of story interactions. Anywho, looking forward to Dragon Isles!

    I really want to try and give constructive feedback without it just sounding negative, so here it goes:
    Things I liked about this interview -> Crendor asked some basic, but really good, questions (such as "what's the current lore that we know", "what does Nobbel think will happen without spoilers", etc). Never underestimate the power of simple questions because they can give the interviewee a frame to work within that doesn't require 20hrs of background information before getting to the meat of things.
    Things I didn't like (but will try to be nice) about this interview -> Nobbel stopped being the "lore guy" for me since the end of Legion. I was hoping this interview might change my mind, but he is still just (imho) very shallow on the lore. And TBH I don't really blame him; the lore has gone to shit since Legion and not even I care to look into the details anymore (Shadowlands had me pumped, only to have the everything since WC3 spat in my face and Arthas' story literally reduced to 35 anima...I'm getting angry just thinking about it).
    HOPEFULLY Dragonflight will be lore rich, and Nobbel will be reinvigorated enough to go full loremaster mode again, because right now I feel like I would have got more out of spending 45 mins on Wowpedia than listening to a lot of this...what I want is someone who is insightful enough that they can connect all these things in ways that you can't do just by reading off a lore wiki.
    In short: spend less time talking about things we kind of already know (i.e. Wowpedia articles) and more time talking about what it actually means in the greater context of things (what do you speculate the dragon flights were actually doing in the last few expansions since they weren't focused on, but we get bits of lore here and there... tie it all together; what are your insights? Do you have any predictions based on all these titbits of info?, etc).
    There was a YT channel I really like for awhile called 'The Dread Expanse', and even though he no longer makes videos his content was awesome. Maybe he was a little "quacky", but at least his theories were interesting and novel. Maybe I'm asking too much here and not been 100% fair to Nobbel... I guess I just really want the lore to be good again and that usually means the WoW lore content creators are making cool/interesting/novel videos again.
    Just to end this off positively: if I really didn't give a shit about these sorts of videos, I wouldn't have wrote any of this. Hopefully we might get more of these collab videos in the future.

      I don't think the vid was meant for you, read in the title where it says 'For Noobs'

      @@SolonarTM maybe, but in that case the video should have been 1 min long and just Nobbel saying "10,000 years ago the dragon isle was hidden/lost and now its back and we go to it"

    I hope the story in DF is good, but I’ve always thought that dragon lore in WoW is lame. The only interesting flight is the black flight.
    They always have to make the dragons go mad or be under mind control for us to have conflict with they and it never feels natural.

    point of clarification, at the beginning of the video, Crendor is NOT in fact flyingaround in Wrath areas.. just lovely floaty island Nagrand (Outland Version) 🥸

    I can’t make myself care about WoW lore anymore. It’s like when Disney took over SW, or Amazon took over LOTR.

    I fucking loathe the 'read the books to get the story' bs of Blizzard. A big reason I have stopped caring about Warcraft.
