Great video! Anyone even thinking about solar, but confused about all of the different inverter choices, should watch this at least a couple of times! :)
Thank you Kelly! Unbelievable presentation. Answered all of my system questions, and I will be using Signature Solar to incorporate elements into our new system.
With the hybrid inverter, can it prevent power from going back to the grid? I’m wary of the implications of being a micro generator power station but still want grid power as required while I expand.
@@SignatureSolar well this 6000XP has grid tie abilities too, you just don't have them accessible with your software...we know it can limit export, the question is when will you include the CT's so we can tie it to grid?
Check out Will Prowse's video where he compares the 6000XP to their 18kPV. Here is his You Tube title: EG4 Offgrid VS Hybrid Inverters! Which one is better for the $$$?! 6000XP VS 18kPV th-cam.com/video/44qCk0pQar8/w-d-xo.html He lays out an excellent comparison and gives a good argument on the value of spending the extra for the 18kPV. I recently completed my system using a 6000XP and four EG4-LifePower4 48V batteries and I'm very happy. I also installed a Reliance Controls 10 circuit Transfer Switch, I run my 6000XP output to the Reliance input, then switch circuits to run a large portion of my house circuits from the 6000XP.
13:40 - The grid-tie Growatt string inverter can't be used anywhere in residential US because of module level rapid shutdown requirements specified in NEC section 690.12. That rule will prevent the Growatt inverter (and all other string inverters) from getting a permit to operate in the US. It's an unnecessary rule IMO as it doesn't add much safety yet causes other technical issues, but it is a problem for residential string inverters in the US.
Wow, not only Growatt but all string inverters aren’t allowed in the US and can’t get a permit? With the millions of string inverters installed in the US already, it’s good to know they’re no longer allowed. I would never have guessed. Thanks!
@@joefrommontana252 Utility- and commercial-scale solar arrays can use string inverters. Also, there are some string inverters that can use individual panel "optimizers" that can provide the rapid shutdown functionality. I think at that point, the system might as well use micro-inverters though.
@@makeitbetter9685 The new hybrid Growatt has rapid shutdown built in. The others are meant to be used with the transfer switch box which I believe has it. Just look for rapid shutdown capability. Millions of string inverters are installed across the US. This comment has the correct number of 👍. I’d just call signature solar and speak to someone who knows what they’re talking about.
I am considering something like the 12k inverter but I'm totally off grid. I don't want to pay for the on-grid options. The 6000xp is too small (I don't want to buy two of them). I have 9000w of panels. Any plans to build an off-grid 12k soon?
When I first saw this I thought finally I'm going to find a video that's going to explain all three types to me. However not one of them talked about being charged with a generator. Now I'm fairly certain that all three of these can be charged from a generator or use the generator to charge the batteries through this inverter so why is that not explained. Please have someone reach out to me through this forum in order for me to get my questions answered if my questions can get answered. Thank you.

Hey boss. These are just the calculations I needed. Thanks for the explanation! I’m building a larger electrical mobile unit out of an enclosed trailer I’ve converted to be powered by the 6000xp with 10.2kwh server no alternator charge tied. My biggest question is grounding the system in a mobile application with no grid tie. Is grounding to the frame fine because of wood blocks and rubber tires. Or do I need to tie the ground to a rod at every location. I’m worried times I’ll be around pavement only. Thanks again boss!!
Nice info but sometimes misleading. I have the EG4 18KPV Hybrid Inverter and the battery backup mode is just a promise of some future firmware upgrade. Simply does not work. Also getting the BMS/battery communication to work between the inverter and the EG4 LL-s batteries has never worked. It would be nice to either come clean about these issues or find a fix that works.
Hi @dBr-ni7ce - Firmware 1818 adds the battery backup feature. If you are having issues with your LL's, you may need to check your protocols on your batteries, if you'd like to contact tech support at 903-441-2090, we can get you taken care of!
@@SignatureSolar Been working this with Signature Solar since the inverter was commissioned. Protocols, dip switches, and about everything else has been checker several times. Just had a hour long chat this morning but still no joy. The tech guys are working it but it's fighting (I'm not faulting the support; they are trying and are very helpful but this one is making us all nuts)...
Also I've been told several times by support that the battery backup mode does not work and that EG4 is still working on this firmware. Is that a true statement?
@@SignatureSolar I just finished my call with a “Tier II Technical Solutions Agent” at Signature Solar and now the system is working as designed/intended (including the battery communications; firmware 1818 was a definite improvement). My application is a little different; in the past rolling blackouts of about 15 minute on/off cycles were occurring during high demand periods on the grid. System now appears to be functioning great as a “whole house UPS” and I am very please with it’s performance. The support from Signature Solar has been outstanding.

Just ordered a pair of 18KPVs from you guys. Excited to get this system up and running.
Do you sell a grid tied split phase inverter that can be programed to ( no feedback ) to the grid only self consume?
Thanks solar Queen so educative
Hi Kelly. How do i know how many solar panels the Growatt de 10kW SPH 10000 TL-HU-US hybrid inverter can support?
It would depend on the voltage of the panels.

Yes, it is capable of this.
When will the 6000XP have grid tie capability? Are you just waiting on UL approval?
it is not intended to sell. it is UL already

Seems that the code states “for PV systems installed on or in buildings”. So wouldn’t that Growatt be fine for ground mounted arrays?
