Caught a glimpse of the Sayers shop in the video. I was a van lad on the vans in the 60s and remember delivering there many times. The first time I ever went through the Mersey tunnel was in a Sayer’s van. Happy memories of that job and New Brighton.

Does anybody remember a cafe off Victoria Rd called the Eat-in? From memory it was painted bottle green, white signage with red lettering. My Grandad used to take me in the early 1980's as a young child and we were regulars at this cafe. One week he must have had his wallet pickpocketed and I remember him panicking when he went to pay, the owner gave him a free cup of tea and said he could pay next time. They'd robbed £23 which was a lot of money back in 1982.
We went back next day and paid the owner, lovely man.

And that was progress.... pulling down those beautiful old buildings and replacing them with hovels no bigger than our garden shed. The council should never have allowed it, regardless of how much they made from it. What a disgrace

It was cheap holidays to Spain that killed New Brighton. Whatever happened next was simply an exercise in trying to make the best of a bad job. The result is a town that lives rather than wallows in it’s past.

    Hi there Roy,
My name is Lily Gilboy, I'm writing to you from Blast! Films where we make Saving Lives at Sea. We'd potetntially like to use one of the stills in this video in a future epsiode. I was just wondering if you had anymore information about the still which appears at 1:21.
    Kind Regards,
    Lily

I remember Victoria road in the 50s it was a thriving busy road. Plenty of shops and it was like going to Grange Road in Birkenhead on a Saturday afternoon. And there we go again mindless council planners struck again and destroyed it. Shocking!
