The one thing I cherish deeply about Queensryche is their confidence in diversity! Of course, this is what made them "different' from all others. They were far ahead of their time and I will never disrespect their journey. As I heard many decades ago, "Queensryche is a thinking man's metal!" To this I agree -- wholeheartedly!
Rumor is he quit smoking and hired a new Vocal coach to help him get what he could of his voice back ? He sounds good to me and the Kid with the QR band now is very talented but he's not Geoff ..... Performing Rage or Empire at his age is a true test and no one is saying he's using clicks or ghost singers so its him singing thats the most Important hearing a bad note here and there tells me that he's keeping it real Props at 61 its gotta be hard . His dedication to do those records singing every song is a treat . Empire some have problem with but I think its a strong record that kinda went in areas they didnt normally go . Wish DeGarmo would reunite with Tate they compliment each other and remained friends so that gives me hope that they may get into a studio one day again ??
Geoff by his response hasn't had much problem with being able to have his range as much as not wanting to SING in a higher range. Hmmm odd. I just didn't think he COULD do it anymore, so i wonder which is a fact? After watching them do Rage in it's entirety, he pretty much killed it all the way through. And actually his voice is still low, very froggy. Warrell Dane was much the same, and they both had the same vocal coach...R.I.P. Warrell!!
@@MichaelHolmgaard Yeah, still WAY better than he's done since way back in like 1997. He was chain smoking after Empire (not cool), which caused most of it. So i guess now he saw the light, and coached himself back to good vocal health. Damn good for 61 ha! And shocking.
@@drummer7557 Agreed. Geoff hasn't sounded this good since the 90s. Still one of the best voiaces in the industry! I wonder if Bruce will ever downkey any songs? That would be weird after so many years lol
listen people , take note Geoff Tate is one of the Best song writers ,story tellers of our time. If you've never seen him and his band well go see them . You won't be disappointed .He is and always be the voice of Qweensryche
DeGarmo was pretty at writing... GT is not the voice of Queensryche anymore, he was definitely amazing in his time, no doubt. As far as writing concept albums from the 90's through current though, he wouldn't even be in my top ten list. *Maybe* OM would make a top 10 concept albums list but Geoff himself doesn't really write anything significant. Maybe you haven't explored that genre much?
No mystery on the monetary success of Empire. The title track appealed to the metal fans following since their black album and caused us to purchase without hearing further- but the rest was largely commercially accessible - and as the era permitted the masses were good with soft or hard rock. Those fans are transient and were easily swayed to grunge or rap or hip hop later - leaving us loyal metal fans hoping for the aggression and dark feel of the first 4 efforts. The song promised land held the attention and they’ve always written good ballads. But to hear them compose dark, heavy and at times aggressive masterpieces like the first four albums would have seen early fans pay back the loyalty in kind - we are your bread and butter. Why bands chase the carrots forever and expect we will go along is disingenuous. Tate sounds awesome now. And songs like NM156 and roads were so ahead of their time. Explore further in those directions with sound scapes and modern orchestrations that compliment a newly revised heaviness that has progressed in the genre .
A couple of comments from the interviewer seemed like digs or off. How important is Empire to the band? He's not with them. Then the comment about not selling at those numbers today. I'm hoping it wasn't an intentional thing but a language understanding one. English is a weird language & it's mine!
He's a nice guy, and don't forget, HE CAME up with all the music and songs, even if a younger singer can maybe sing it better. It happens to everyone, it's called Time. That's why Athletes Retire. The videos I've seen lately, he sounds really good! He can't sound like he did when he was 24 years old. I wonder what size Hat He Wears? Has to be an XXL!
@@ripper-wrench Thanks. It was a solid performance in Vaasa as well where I watched the show. Heard rumors about him returning to Scandinavia sometime in fall / winter so looking forward to seeing the show again. =)
Geoff is a national treasure. One of the all time greats. I would rank him in the same class as Freddy Mercury.
He sure was amazing live =)
Yeah i agree

Couldn’t of said it better Dave!!! 👏
The phone rings and I immediately thought of operation Mindcrime beginning!
EPIC!
Operation Mindcrime was a genius concept album as too was Empire. Geoff has the most amazing vocal range
Talented man and still handsome! 🕊😍🕊
Really cool interview, glad to watch this. Nicely done. Geoff Tate is a great and true artist.
He sure is. Hope to catch up with him again when he comes to Finland next time. :)
That was a good interview, he asked the type of questions I would have asked, thanks for posting.
funny that geoff sees empire as an upbeat album....I think its actually quite dark, melancholic at times
Not the type of album you play at a party, but compared to OMC it’s a mood lifter
This is such a good interview with Geoff Tate... its really cool to learn new things about back in the days
Thanks! 😊🤘
This is a really great interview.
One of my favorite singers. Original Queensryche is one of my favorite bands. Without Mr Tate Queensryche is nothing.
20:43 When he said "you will remember", I thought of the lyrics: "I will remember
You will remember
The star that came tonight"
Queensryche without TATE and DEGARMO is just a bastardized Crappy version. I'm glad I saw them live wirh those two before they broke up.
And now they have lost Scott Rockenfield as well
that shirt is legit Geoff

Salute!
Yes put aside the differences and reform!!! Todd’s ok probably the best substitute but hardcore Ryche fans love Geoff

He performs all the songs a step down now though. He did that with Mindcrime. Don't know if he does it with Rage?

No one can sell any records anymore with digital steaming like iHeartRadio and pirated stealing and all
Geoff is a very talented and intellectual being Insania Wines are pretty awesome too.
That was cool, loved the story about the airport. I bet he has a million stories like that.
Sad that there is only 2 members from the original QR.
Watching from Killarney Ireland

Nice guy? That’s a stretch
Rage is so freaking awesome
Awesome Geoff! THE Man! THE Legend! Wow! Totally Nice Guy!
geoff looking great still damn :).very smart man
Geoff is a great guy, great voice!!! Would be awesome if He and Chris De Garmo come back in QR!!
It's just me or Geoff sounds exactly like Axl Rose..
Cuase Geoff is a low baritoner and Axl Rose is a base Both of them sound similar
