I'm guessing McLaren's main goal was performance boost and they when they found out the battery and motor were large enough, they just provided the option to go full electric.

For people commenting about the electric mode range, the main purpose of the electric drive train is to assist the combustion engine in acceleration. Not soley the 11 mile range.
I really had a clip of my driving/ showing launch control but McLaren did not want me to post it since this was a preproduction car that didn’t have the final production software for launch control.
I mean it would be fantastic to get you out of the neighborhood at odd hours without pissing the neighbors off. No one said it’s meant to last the whole drive. If it’s possible why not just add it 🤷🏻♀️
We make it around our whole place with a hybrid x5 to all our stores before it was a problem because one of our betteries died and it would always pop up drivetrain prob but when we fixed that we went to 4 stores each like 5 miles in between them and like 10 miles away from our home it just regenerates a lot😁hope that helped you on some more info

The 11 miles is genius. There is just enough battery power to get out of houses. There is no noise and polite to neighbors, but yet it's an animal when you're not around civilization.
It's a relatively new creator, cut them some slack. Critical comments are necessary for their improvement too but you can do it without sounding like a jerk.
It's not an electric car. It's a hybrid supercar and the electric motors are specifically used to boost the power of the gas engine in order to save weight by not needing a bigger engine, as well as the benefit of instant torque from the electric motors. It's all performance.
Cool car and nice features, I’d imagine that ev could not only be great for its boost but also in case of an „go to McLaren“ emergency to at least get off the track or something. Paying that amount I’d want the interior to feature more metals and carbon.

11 miles is a lot if you live in a village. Or going to a starbucks on the city. Most people usually don't buy a Mclaren for daily driving so you shouldn't really worry about the 11 miles unless you're planning to buy one.
what if you want to idle to keep the engine warm? How would you put it park without turning the engine off? Would they have to turn it off and back on to idle?
I don't know why super/hyper cars haven't been doing back up cameras WAAAY before federal regulation in 2012(?). 1 - they can already charge what they want and use it as an option for weight. 2 - they could have perfected the technology and licensed it back to the big production companies so they're not always on the edge of boom and bust. 3 - even before cameras were on every phone and miniaturized and digitized, IR had been in use for DECADES. It didn't even need to be hooked to a digital display in the cabin, warning LEDs Green, Yellow, Red would have seemed space age compared to cars that didn't have the tech.
