I've had this lens for a while and to be honest, it does everything I could ask for. The autofocus is pretty fast in continuous autofous mode, and only slows down a little in single autofocus mode. The image quality and sharpness is very good, even wide open at f1.4. The colours and bokeh rendering are also very pleasing. For the price to performance ratio, I don't think there is a better lens out there. Another big plus is the weight, it is so easy to carry around all day, especially if you're working, this lens doesn't cause fatigue due to its lightness. The build quality is also very good in my opinion, might not be as good as a sigma or sony but is still very solid. Also, samyang just released a firmware update for it recently and I noticed an increase in autofocus speed as well.
I have had this lens for a year or so along with the Samyang 24mm f1.8. Both lenses have no or very least focus breathing when doing video work. Love the focusing ring that can be double up as an aperture ring.
Nice, glad to hear you're enjoying them! At least if you can't access the Sony focus breathing compensation they are well controlled straight out of camera :)
Heads up, the screws that run through the mount ring go about *1/16"* into *PLASTIC* (4 threads). If you ever drop your camera, even from a short distance, the screws WILL strip out... ask me how I know lol. The lens was on the ground and the mount was still hooked to the camera. Thankfully, this didn't happen during a wedding or any paid work. I cannot believe they built it so poorly. I took apart the mount on the Samyang 135 f1.8, and it uses longer screws and anchors into a METAL ring. After loving and shooting this lens for over a year, there's no way I can ever trust it. Thinking back, I'm so thankful this happened during a family event and not while I was doing a job. After it's repaired, I'll be selling it.
@@TheBergreens yep, honestly I was astonished when I saw this. Anchoring screws into plastic is ok on small / light lenses, but this isn’t a small or light lens. Typically, they’d go in about 1/4” into the lens body. They created a beautiful, functional, and economical lens, but this is a major design flaw. They sent autoreply bs without reading my initial email. I responded to it and they provided more information. I’ll be calling today, but I’m not very hopeful lol. With any lens, I always keep the lens hoods on as an extra protective measure. Typically they’ll deflect / break with any impact. But… not if the mount connects 1/16” into plastic 😂
Even if I had the budget for G Master, I would still choose Samyang.. Sony lenses are very expensive and do not justify their price. Sigma I series are exceptional lenses, I own Sigma 65 mm f 2 and I am very satisfied with its capabilities.Thank you so much!
I lucked out and got this for $440 new from rokinon on one of their sales a year ago. Then a month later the 135mm was on sale for like $550 It was a no brainer.

That’s cool about the firmware update! I am not sure which version I was using so I’m glad to hear it’s better!

Good to know! This is the type of stuff that is hard to observe without having this type of experience, thanks for sharing!

I am inclined to agree! So hard to justify spending $1-2k on one GM lens!
I own 24-70 and 35-150. But for some reason im still hesitant with this 50mm
I have the 35-150 and been looking into this lens for a while. Mpb had it for a few dollars cheaper but been selling out each time
Yeah, I feel ya. If you can find a deal it's a pretty sweet lens!

Nice! Sounds like you're finding some great deals!
Thanks for breaking down the facts from the fiction with the Samyang nifty fifty, 1.4.....
Happy to help!
