I just remembered these and decided to re watch the series. I forgot how much I loved Henglaar and the Councilor. Those two had the best chemistry of all the actors.
For those who don't know, USS Excalibur NCC-26517 is an Ambassador class starship.
Fun show with a good cast you can care about.
Gray ship looks like the one in "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" (1977)
That's what it is, just as the theme music is the theme from _"Galaxy Quest."_
Coincidentally, an episode of Doctor Who also "ripped off" the CEOTTK ship design: _"Partners in Crime."_

According to Starfleet fraternization protocols, couples do not serve in the same department. The deputy chief engineer will be transferred to another department if he has a love relationship with the chief engineer. This is to prevent relationship problems and relationship disputes from disrupting work processes. That's a very reasonable protocol
Knapp's acting is.. I know he's not a professional actor, but, for some reason, *I buy it* in his delivery. He SOUNDS like a Starfleet Captain, *not* an actor.
Well, the actor had previously played the character's brother on Angeles. Also a Captain.

Here is a little trick I learned using the Chroma keyer.
To get rid of the green haze around your subjects, adjust the threshold, low and high until it gets rid of the green haze, it will become a bit transparent.
Duplicate the track, the two tracks together should get rid of the transparent edges and the green haze.
If you have limited resources on your computer then follow the steps I laid out, render the scene, and bring it back into the project later.

I absolutely loved Robin Lefler in TNG but this Robin Lefler just pissed me off. They overused her laws way too much in this
Luke Matthews The next actress that played Robin in this series was better. This one is only in a few episodes. The newer one doesn't quote any laws and stays til the end of the series (or should I say series that spawed from this?).

filmed in the years 2000 and 2001.. with home camera's before HD tech and with win 98 or win 2000 computers! I am impressed with what they did with so little!
I love the series and the effort, but the writing in this first season is just SO BAD... I mean we just have an ICONIAN main character? From a species extinct for hundreds of thousands of years? And during the battle when Knapp keeps giving orders to Lefler in Engineering is just unbelievable. "Lefler, Resurrect Christ," says Knapp, "Aye Sir, I prepared for that just in case," Lefler Replies. Like 5x in as many minutes. And Engineering doesn't get tractor beams of enemy ships disabled, that's for the Tactical Officer via shields or weapons, or maybe the Pilot/Conn Officer to break free with skilled piloting; it's just not what engineering does. And then the supposed Gray, being nothing but a regular blanket with like a sock puppet in them.... ugh, it's like you guys went to the trouble of having Starfleet Uniforms, but you might as well all be in pajamas and save the money if the opposing character is just Linus' "Binky", ya know? And I love bringing back some old characters, but damn Lefler is annoying with her laws. If she quotes 50 of them every 25-minute episode I'll commit Klingon Ritual Suicide. I discovered Hidden Frontier after the 7 seasons of HF were basically done, but I was an avid viewer and financial donor for Odyssey/Helena/Federation One. It's been years but I never got around to watching the early seasons of HF. I still love it and I don't mean to sound overly harsh, it's just that they're so bad if I were guys I'd kind of hide them/not post them and then ret-con it like none of them every happened! :-P
I agree with most everything in this post. But chalk it up to beginners syndrome. Everyone has to start somewhere. Hell Look at the first two seasons of TNG and DS9. They are practically unwatchable compared to the rest of their seasons. Good Trek takes time to work out the kinks. I feel Rob Caves did that. But yes, their actor substitutions, specifically Lefler and Ro Nevin were a direct result to the improved quality of the series.
