How to clean gold with baking soda
I work at the FEDERAL GOLD RESERVE THIS IS THE METHOD WE USE TO KEEP OUR USA GOLD SHINNY ...THANK YOU FROM THE FEDERAL RESERVE
Our pleasure! Thanks for letting me know!
@1969CampEvans why does the reserve care how shiny it is when it's the weight that matters? Shouldn't get dirty. And gold don't corrode. Ther than jewelry, i would never clean coins and bullion.
This has literally save me £220 to get all my gold professionally cleaned! Seriously this works 100% I have a gold st Christopher and it started to turn bronze it’s real gold but body lotion and hard water is turning it and my earrings was Turing black that’s normal so I decided to do this at 3am and my gold looks new! Thank you
No problem! Glad I could help make your gold look new!
I just tried this with my gold nugget ring, bracelet, and gold chain. Loved the results ! Jewelry looks brand new 👌🏼
Right on! Glad I could help!

Ha, awesome. Thanks for saying that, i really appreciate it!
Remember to be careful when around the sink if it can drop down the drain!
%100 agree!
used this tip to clean my buzz bait blades that are gold. and man this really made a difference thank you sir!
Glad it helped!
@@jthreeb sometimes it's the simple things in life that help lol
GORGEOUS ring my friend! An absolutely blessed find! I hope you cherish that treasure for a lifetime 🥰
Thank you! And yes, I do! It's a beautiful ring!
@@jthreeb and an incredible origin story 🥰
This is a really good way. My mum passed in 2004 and i have a gold sovereign bracelet and gold and ruby rings that i havnt worn as i wear white gold but want to sell so I will try with my gold Jewellery that's been in the box for the last 9 years. Can you actually put rings with stones in the bicarbonate soda mix. Also maybe suggest putting plug in sink before rinsing as not to go down the plug hole..
Yes, stones can go in, and great idea, i have a net that goes in to stop from falling in.
I found a gilded michigan state crest officer button from the civil war the other day. Trying to find a safe method for cleaning without removeing all the gilding. We usually do electrolosis for the majority of our cleaning, but I've got a feeling that might strip the gilding off. Might have to just let it be as is.
They can be tricky, but you can just rub gently with some gold cleaner or soap and water
Very cool,,,,Yes, I got a gold ring last week. 12 on the Equinox,,,,Still on cloud nine,,,,
Very cool, congrats!!
@@jthreeb thanks for this, just got a gold signet ring going to try it.
@@jamesbasham5439 Congrats!
Its the weekend I hope you have a really nice one and allways injoy catching your videos keep up the hard work 💪 tyson
Thanks buddy! Hope you have a great weekend too! Stay Safe & Happy Hunting!
Surely I will give it a try. It looks promising ☺️
I find it works well
The strainer is not in the drain. Might not want to drop that ring while cleaning.
Good tip!
Thank You! Very useful video 🙏👍
You are welcome!
Always put a rag or screen in your sink when scrubing jewelry. They are slippery suckers.
Lol I bet! Dont want to loose one down the drain!
Does this work with gold chains as well?
Yes, I've done it before too
can you do this for a burnt gold chain
Yes, you should be able too
It's so beautiful! And how appropriate that it has an "A" on it. I trust you will put it on the finger of your lovely wife. 😊
I would love to, but Amanda and I are trying to track down any living relatives of the family to see if we can return the ring
Can I use the same method for cleaning a diamond bracelet
Yes, absolutely
Wow
I know right!
Does this work for pendant with diamonds
Yes it should! :)
Does this work for a gold necklace
Yes it does! I've done it!
All you need is a bowl, water, soda and make a paste, wait half an hour, rub with fingers and rinse. This is far too much trouble, stovetop! 50 years ago I learned my way. No problems.
And who has an open sink when performing such a job??? Men! 😅
HA! Thanks for the tip btw!
Have you found gold this year???
Hollo sir, Can I use warm water?
Yes you can :)
Just saw you on DK’s channel, great episode. Thanks for sharing!
Hey, thanks for watching!
Great way to clean that gold ring - no harsh chemicals. I'll try it next time I have to clean up some jewelry finds. Keep Digging!
Right on, I felt it worked really well. Next time I think I'm going to put a drop of dish soap in it to help
Awesome 👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks Butter Beans!
It says put top down
I have a diamond in the center of the top would it be damaged at all?
I don't believe so :)
And did it damage the diamond at all?
@@garethbowden2783 it did not
Wow :) it does work Thank you
No problem! Glad I could help 😁
Excellent video
Could I use this technique with jewellery with gem stones in?
yes you can :)
what karat was it?
It is a 22 karat gold, non stamped as it's from the 1800's and wasn't required
I got a 14k gold cross has stains on it just boil water and insert baking soda?
Yes ,should work well
@@jthreeb don’t add dish soap to a boil just baking soda? Much appreciated
@@ljj2397 dont add dish soap to the water, use after
@@jthreeb sweet I appreciate you to the fullest much appreciated
Doesn’t the scrubbing cause scratches?
Not with a soft toothbrush
I just soak mine in 90% rubbing alcohol and rinse it for same results
Awesome!
Almost made crack!
😆😆 Almost!
Does it lead to gold loss in milligrams?
I do not believe so
Technica)y gold can not be destroyed, PERIOD. However if u scrubbed for long enuf a milligram of gold costs .08c only
Hey that's super awesome J Three B
Hey, thanks
Now do ya hands next
:D
Nah I'll pass I'll just take it to a swap meet jeweler and have it steamed and polished for $5 and make it shine harder than that 💍I go there all the time 😂😂😂
Awesome!
Be careful using a brush as it will leave fine scratches.
Thanks for the tip!
Gold should not get tarnished , only silvery .
It does when it's been buried in the ground since the 1800's! LOL
Don't use baking soda in gold plated pieces, they will lost their shine
Good to know!
Not baking soda, Comet works better.
Awesome! I'll have to try that!
What an absolute waste of time.... if you're going to use a toothbrush to clean it then just use some hand soap or normal washing up liquid and give it a nice scrub with the toothbrush I clean gold on a daily basis and I just use normal hand soap with a toothbrush... it comes up absolutely perfect.. do not bother boiling water and adding baking soda...that is absolutely ridiculous
Thats ok if you think that. But the gold I find has been underground for 100's of years, this helps. That ring is from 1805, it's seen some things. It needs that little extra.
@@jthreeb yeah ok.. I'll give you that .. keep up the good work
Toothpaste
That works too!
Don't waste water
Wasn't even that much water! LOL But to be honest, I normally have it off until I need it, but for video purposes, I left it on for ease while operating the camera and filming this video.
@@jthreeb You didn’t waste any water…😊
2nd
:D Hope your doing well

@@okboomer1873 ahem...other gender
I use vinegar an soda and let it sit in cup w tin foil scrap
That works well!
Vinegar and baking soda neutralize each other, using them together is pointless and adds no benefit. Just use hot water.
I thought 🪥 scratches your gold
Soft bristles won't
