Oh man, watching this makes me reminisce of all the times my pops helped me with my XJ before he passed and I inherited his YJ.

Little by little. Trying to save my pennies to swap in a 4.0 in place of the squirrel powered 2.5L I’m also on the hunt for some full doors to replace the half doors.

First rule on xj. Don’t use power tools to remove bolts. Especially those rear shocks and tranny mount.

Just added an XJ to my fleet (already had a YJ), all your videos are incredibly helpful - keep it up!

Living in New England my shock and awe is how easy everything is coming apart. All of the northern rust belt has a blue wrench handy. Most 96s here are little old lady showroom or only for parts.

David has a nice looking XJ and a great first name ( mine also ) . Can't believe how fast you work, a 11 minute transmission and transfer case removal lol. Looking forward to part 2 of this clutch removal / install video . Until next time be safe and take care my friend .

Thanks for this video. My 96 XJ needs a clutch and as I do most of my own work I had been planning on doing this myself, but lately have been thinking I might just get a shop to do it. Considering that I have to work in God's garage... my gravel driveway, and I wouldn't have a helper... yep, I'm going to pay someone else to do it. There are plenty of other projects to tackle on my old Jeep.

Do you know if that throw out bearing is made in China? None of my last three throw out bearings have lasted 5,000 miles, on my MJ, ever since Exedy moved production to China. I want a Solid throw out bearing.

How are the automatic transmissions on a late 90's TJ?

Haven't heard anything horrible about them, but haven't owned one. Maybe someone else will offer advice?

guessing it’s the same aw4 from my xj, in which case it’s pretty good. they have a very classic auto slushbox feel to them which sucks, but they are extremely durable and tough. i’m swapping an ax15 into my jeep though, but there’s nothing wrong with the auto.
