Back in the 1980s I did this route all the time on my Yezdi, Rajdoot Yamaha 350 , 1955 Sunbeam 1100, and my diesel converted Ambassador. fitted with a Mercedes 240 D engine.
It seems 40 something years later, little has changed on this route
