I think Lemmy used power chords a lot, it's a small thing but it does add a lot to the sound. Pretty spot on tone, makes me regret selling my VMT (small version, not the Ultra/Deluxe)...
Curtis Pea Lemmy isn't a bass player. He's a guitarist originally but had to turn to bass when the bassist for Hawkwind (I think) didn't turn up for a gig. So Lemmy was given the bass and asked to play. He played it like he thought he should, which was like guitar. From then on Lemmy became the most original bassist ever. He was and always be a legend.
As curtis has said, he was a guitarist before in a band called The Rockin Vickars which toured the north of england and were quite big but they only did live work, only recorded one album. He then auditioned for Hawkwind who didnt need a guitarist, but their bassist had left and left his gear, lem picked it up and played it like a bass until he was kicked out of hawkwind for taking either speed or coke, he was left at the canadian border by the band after he was seized from a drug check, he had recently written the song Motorhead, which became Motorheads first single and their name. He then formed motorhead in england and the rest is history

late to the party but some points on the video and history of Motorhead gear for those who don't know: -Lemmy actually played a Thunderbird on rare occasions, most notably a live 1980's TV performance in the UK. you can somewhat hear the sound difference between that and his Rickies -Lemmy used to have Thunderbird pickups installed in the bridge position on his various Ricks, he found it gave that raw, punchy sound he was after. -Lemmy's amps were originally Marshall 1992 JMP Super bass Mk.2's, his amp set up for a typical show was 2xheads, with each one run into a 4x15" bass cab on the bottom and a 4X12" guitar cab on top of that. In later years, he did use signature heads, namely "murder one" (not to be confused with the original Murder one). I saw the band 4 times in the UK and each time he used "hammer" and the second "murder one". He did sort of have an A and B rig, mostly the cabs and a couple of Heads to save lugging shit all over the world. Moving to Fast Eddie: -The strat he had was one that a friend had and he sanded down the paintwork to bare wood, his friend gave it to him. -I asked Eddie about this personally a short time before he passed on, he had a DiMarzio X2N in the Bridge position, and he kept the original pickups in the middle and neck positions, he never changed those. -He did eventually swap to a Kahler Trem system, which from what I can find, was mostly blanked or locked down, I think? Either way it makes sense as he would have had greater tuning stability over the stock trem. -Effects wise, I haven't really looked, but I know Eddie used a Wah Wah pedal, you hear this on "stay clean" off the overkill album. The rigs they used in the Three piece era was relatively simple and straightforward, that's how the boys liked it. After fast Eddie left came Brain Robertson for about 18 months to 2 years, he used Les Pauls and a myriad of weird things live, think namely a phaser or something. Then Wurzel and Phil Campbell are quite complicated. because Phil was the longest standing guitar player, his amp rig didn't change but he had so many guitars, depending on what he wanted out of his axe. hopefully some of this is useful info.

Motörhead was the DIRTIEST sounding Band in the World ! Lemmy was a guitar player actually - only used a bass ( besides the Ricckenbacker- a Gibson Thunderbird in the 80s ! ) ;-D
When I worked with Lemmy he had two Marshall bass rigs, one was clean and the other had an old 80s blackbox Marshall Guv;nor pedal in front. And I once got a pretty good Rickenbacker 4001 impersonation out of a Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar bass. I think the Epiphone does OK here, Rabea has nailed the Fast Eddie Clarke Strat sound.
More accurate than you might think. Lemmy used a Thunderbird for the most part in Hawkwind. Also, he put T-bird pickups in his first Ricks, because he hated the sound of the old Rick pickups. He said in an interview that he didn't start using Rickenbacker's own electronics until the 90's. Also, worth mentioning that thing there is an Epi Vintage PRO, which has more vintage, higain, treblier pickups than a standard T-bird.
I love when the bass gets attention in these
hard not to with Motorhead lmao
When it’s the Thunderbird how can it not! Absolutely love this Bass just kicks ass like no other!
