- Jabu has had a watery, sore eye lately. We have been treating it thrice daily with an antibiotic ointment and it is looking soo much better.

Jabu is trained to voice commands
Animals learn human language after getting along with humans. If they were gifted with power of speech, then I can guarantee that they could effectively talk in human language. Though their mental maturity is like a 5 year old if not more.

I was thinking that too, but honestly, given how dusty the outdoors are and the insects swarming around, the gloves would get dirt on them too. They also can't stop the elephant from dust-bathing immediately after and getting dirt in the eye then. You can't exactly make a sterile field in the outdoors, and they weren't going inside the eye, just on top of it. This is about as much as they can do.
@LadyEquipped Elephants dust bathe regularly. He is completely fine & these people know what they're doing.
And Jabu knows they're helping him, which makes him even calmer

Jabu is probably smarter than many humans I’ve met in past. Such a beautiful and calm animal.
I do not doubt that. Knowing that medicine is best for him is a hallmark of intelligence.

Unbelievable ! Remarkable. I Jabu is so gentle, trusty and seems to understand you are treating him. Such a huge animal lying down when you ask him with a tiny eyedrop medication. Very impressive. My dog doesn't even allow me to do this. I hope his eye gets better soon. Thank you for all the love and care you give him
I think positive reinforcement is key. It seems they find something the animal loves and uses it as a catalyst to get the desired action. When he does what they want a green apple is on the way. Dogs should be even easier considering they're a human invention.

Even with plenty of positive reinforcement I doubt a dog would have the self-control to not pull away when being applied medicine like Jabu here did. He's on a whole other level even for an elephant.
I had to be patient. Finally my dog found it was better after I put eye drops in and now she does not make a fuss.

These kind of videos make me reexamine what the hell I am doing with my life. I should be out there treating animals. Taking care of a few street dogs isn't cutting it.

Not excessively, like I do on other platforms. TH-cam is special for me, because I am always able to find people whom I can relate with and so I say what I feel. There's a certain freedom about YT.

Elephants are very intuitive and have remarkable cognitive abilities, they are on par with parrots and think things out. They are remarkable animals and deserve our collective respect. In India, they are highly revered and are treated as equal partners as they should.
What a good boy!!! Having somebody mess around your eyes require a lot of trust and cooperation, yet this guy is completely and totally cooperative! This is amazing!
