I preach it in my videos, RGB Sells!!!! lol... I grab up these office prebuilts and do this and flip them for a decent penny. Decided to do how to guides for them, def gonna be looking into some of the newer stuff. After going Hp with the intel 6th gen I am never gong back to Dell. I redesigned a Dell optiplex 9020 by placing it on a Sharkoon TG5, Core i7 4790 and 16 Gb ram that I bought along with a monitor, mouse and keyboard for 250 $ already I put my rtx 2070 to work on it and playing happily :)
Putting it into a custom case or getting new fans can cause errors with the Optiplex in most cases. There’s these adapters made by Harbin Repairs, who are based in Georgia (US), that can streamline the entire process and make it error free and can prevent you from ever splicing wires. Definitely what I would use in an Optiplex case swap.
Hello I'm going to take all the doubts, I did the procedure and there was no error, I used a adapter from 24 to 8 pins and only a jumper, my motherboard is the Dell Optiplex 9020 SFF, yes it is possible to connect several video cards available in the market but for that it is necessary to have an adequate source. I have an EVGA 650W that provides me well
Optiplexes have another problem with regards to case swapping, especially for the newer ones: proprietary form factor locks you into the original case and original PSU, like how this HP Z240 uses a standard mATX board with a standard PSU pinout? You ain't getting that in an Optiplex minitower from the last couple generations or newer. Newer Elitedesk models also share the same problem as newer Optiplexes: the aforementioned proprietary form factor for the mainboard and PSU, moreso with the front I/O built into the mainboard on an appendage that sticks out the front of the case.

Even with these going for like 150-200 it's not bad considering you can case swap and get a Xeon that performs very close an i7 7700 I am def looking into these now...

I was doing this case swap and I cannot get it to power up due to the proprietary wiring for the motherboard power. Looks like you modified the P2 power connector when the rig was up and running. What did you do there?

I recently come across a HP Z240 tower workstation at a 2nd hand store aka pawn shop: It is on display, but I have not been able to boot it up because it is not connected to a monitor. The staff marked it as Processor Intel i7, 3.4 GHz, RAM - 32GB and Hard Drive - 500GB. The computer case has 2UA80928H and 3UF42US#ABA. I don't know the age of this workstation or much else about it. What is a good price? What type of memory chip does it have DDR3 or DDR4?
that would be an i7 6th gen and it would have ddr4, def a great system and the tower station makes it easier to pop in a gaming gpu, a fair price should be around $200USD

their is no case to accomodate the m.2 as Hp made it propietary to their designs, but I have read of people 3d printing a standoff and either glueing or drilling the standoff to the mobo tray of the case to accomodate the weird offset.
Hey man, thanks to you I moved my z240 sff to a new case with a new psu and gpu, works great, but I can't find a way to change fan speed. Bios doesn't have this option (even in the latest bios update) and SpeedFan doesn't recognise any fan (tried 3-pin and 4-pin fans). Would you know or did you just not mind letting the fans run at full speed?
@@DLMtechgarage thanks, that looks way more customizable than SpeedFan, I'll keep it for the future. At the moment it still can't detect my fans, it seems that if the motherboard is incompatible then no matter the software the fans won't be detected
specs they are similar but I would recommend the z420 for the simple fact you can upgrade the psu to any psu and all you need is an adaptor to convert it to motherboard which they sell cheap on amazon. with a regular psu you can put a better gpu then those. the t3600 is limited on the psu you can upgrade and more expensive to upgrade if you can fan the updated dell mode.

@@aleeplayzz79 it is easier to swap the z420 into a newer case, the front i/o is fairly simple and i believe the usb is the same as what i did in the z240.. haven't done a z420 so can't confirm. I recommend the z420 because it is more versatile to upgrade and case swap compared to the dell.

the trick is getting a pwm to sata power adaptor, then you can hook up any fan you want. The GIM fans have their own controller so just power them with sata power and your good to go.

But I run into an issue that im trying to run Warzone on it the game start properly but after a couple of min the whole computer restarts. You think this could be due to the PSU. @@DLMtechgarage already updated all the bios GPU temps goes from 40 to 60 when trying to run the game. I was able to run the game for around 20 min but the it crashed again. Should I try to replace the PSU. While running the game CPU utilization swings between 80-100 %.
Nice one.. Accually Z240 SFF is good one for gaming. I upgraded mine to 64GB of RAM and using RTX3050 LP graphic card and its run very well! Im able to run 4K games :) Next project to swap the case!

Don't want to be critical coz I like your channel, but all you really reused was the motherboard (and hdd, but only because it was decent size). I dunno man I like the budget concept but if your changing everything including the CPU you could just look around for a decent used ASUS/MSI/etc motherboard with no mods needed and a better starting platform from day one.
absolutely right, but the whole idea is that these office pc's are thrown away and can be had for dirt cheap, so yes if you are paying a retail or bad price for them, the swap is def not worth it, but if you get it dirt cheap, for free or seen it thrown away, it can be fun to build, also I went the extreme route and upgraded everything but most people would not go that far. I only mess with these and do these builds if I get them for $50 or less. Only paid a little bit more so I can do the video and show the mod. but i totally agree with you.

i just did this swap case hp z240 and all works good , but what i just relise is you better build an i3 10th gen cpu with 4C8T with the same cost you buy z240 sff and swap it into new case. With the same cost, you get newest CPU and still can upgrade in the future for better cpu .
agree for sure. just comes down to whatever you get for cheap and i mentioned that. but if I was buying a z240 for like $150 or more, I would probably would not do the swap.

Didn't have that problem. Might be the fan but there is a software for windows that does it.

Nice one.. Accually Z240 SFF is good one for gaming. I upgraded mine to 64GB of RAM and using RTX3050 LP graphic card and its run very well! Im able to run 4K games :)

My dell Vostro 430 keeps on shutting down with 16gb ram any idea
looking at some specs it shows it will support 16gb only with 4 4gig sticks of ram, is that what your running?

Don't want to be critical coz I like your channel, but all you really reused was the motherboard (and hdd, but only because it was decent size). I dunno man I like the budget concept but if your changing everything including the CPU you could just look around for a decent used ASUS/MSI/etc motherboard with no mods needed and a better starting platform from day one.
absolutely right, but the whole idea is that these office pc's are thrown away and can be had for dirt cheap, so yes if you are paying a retail or bad price for them, the swap is def not worth it, but if you get it dirt cheap, for free or seen it thrown away, it can be fun to build, also I went the extreme route and upgraded everything but most people would not go that far. I only mess with these and do these builds if I get them for $50 or less. Only paid a little bit more so I can do the video and show the mod. but i totally agree with you.

i just did this swap case hp z240 and all works good , but what i just relise is you better build an i3 10th gen cpu with 4C8T with the same cost you buy z240 sff and swap it into new case. With the same cost, you get newest CPU and still can upgrade in the future for better cpu .
agree for sure. just comes down to whatever you get for cheap and i mentioned that. but if I was buying a z240 for like $150 or more, I would probably would not do the swap.
