    This video made upgrading the PSU on the z230 VERY easy. The drill measurements took some time to markup and get correct, but it WORKS! I was able to install a 600watt PSU from EVGA to power my video card. Thank you for the guide!

      Did you need any extra special cable for the motherboard's 4-pin CPU Power connector? Or could you simply use the CPU connector coming from your PSU? Thanks!

      Tom Crook I was able to fit a gigabyte dual slot gtx 1080 (11.5 inch length card) just fine when I removed the black plastic piece inside the front of the case (this is actually a video card brace mount from HP if you buy a high end factory video card from them). I have maybe 2.5 inches to spare after I did that. This should be able to fit 99% if not all cards on the market. The spacing of the sata and misc cables are just out of the way that a dial slot card fits fine. If you have one of the newer 2.5 slot video cards then you may have issues with that. But case size wise, most cards will fit fine.

    The standard 8 (4) pin connector that my evga psu fit fine. No other adaptor needed. It’s standard.

    What I'm seeing here is (currently) 23,000 people who've watched this video. That seems like 23,000 potential customers for custom laser cut X2xx chassis to standard ATX PSU adapter plates. Maybe made in alloy or powder coated steel? Even if only 500 people decided to buy them, I'd think that they could still be made cheap enough to produce and post for what would be seen as a reasonable cost all round.

Board lights up press the power button it beats four times and then blinks for time s nothing comes on no power to the fans nothing.

    there is 1 pin in the 18 pin connector that needs 11v... how did you solve that with the 24pin to 18pin adapter because every standard atx psu has no 11v output...
    its maybe a stupid question...
    the previous question about the 24 pin connector - the 4 does not work... to much pins still... i orderd a adapter to make everything work.
    i build the complete system in a aftermarket case

    I'm looking at doing this for a Z220. One thing that concerns me however, is as well as the proprietary psu having an 18 pin plug for the motherboard, it also has a dedicated 4 pin plug which attaches to the motherboard in a different area to supply power to the cpu. So how do I get power to the cpu if standard CPUs dont offer the 4 pin plug?

    Does the motherboard have standard ATX spacing on the screws? This is a great tutorial, but I'm kinda considering just getting a new case instead of drilling into the old one, would serve well as an upgrade path once the CPU gets old and has to be replaced.

    • @GreenPCGamerscom
      @GreenPCGamerscom  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We aren't sure if the Z230 system board had standard ATX screw holes. Swapping to an ATX chassis would be a good option if the screw holes line up. We agree, drilling through the chassis isn't ideal.

      the case ...

    • @DeeSnow97
      @DeeSnow97 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kitakanal5107 Yeah. The screw spacing is standard ATX, but the cooler is mounted directly into the HP case and the mounting holes for it are non-standard, so you can't just swap to a different cooler. You can, however, just grab four nuts and screw the cooler directly onto the PCB, that's how the system I worked on has been running for the past two years. (Unfortunately I don't know the specs of the thread, was just lucky enough to find four matching nuts in a bin of random old computer parts.)

    I've done this, followed your guide and I can't get my pc to power up. The PSU I have came with a tester and it works perfectly just not when connected to my pc. I scored an HPZ 620 and HPZ 230 recently. I want to build the 230 for a light gaming machine but I'm in a bit of in a jam as my HPZ 230 PSU died and I want to install a higher wattage non HP ATX PSU but am told it will be a hassle because of the 18 pin power connection on the MB, and all non HP PSU's are 24 pin. Even though there are adapters available like used here, there is something about the OE PSU producing a higher stand by voltage? then the 5v most non HP PSU's produce. Some say that after such a swap they must use the new ATX on/off switch instead of the computers original on/off button, others say they had no success. So I'm trying to find info on this issue if you or anyone can chime in some advice it would be appreciated thanks.
