You guys are dialed into the topics the audience wants to hear discussed over the entire range of pickleball from paddles and gear, data/metrics, play strategy and pro tour- great pod!
I think the CRBN tour bag has everything most people would need. I love that it replaces my slibg bag by allowing one side of the bag to be detached to serve as a day bag with plenty of room for keys and snacks, or if you prefer the larger bag you have great compartment storage, and plenty of interior room without feeling like you are hauling around an apartment. It hits that goldilocks zone of just right for me. When i need to bring a change of clothes i attach the sling side and bring everything. Could not ask for a better bag.
I'm not sure what "putty" Paddletek is using in their paddles, but I use tungsten putty in my grip base caps instead of using a Slyce cap. It costs me about $1.25 per paddle to add up to 1oz on the bottom of the grip. I assumed Paddletek was using their putty simply to hold the steel weight in place. But it is odd that they have the putty without the weight in the 14.3 paddle that you x-rayed. Makes me wonder if they are using something similar to the tungsen putty in that case.
John, I totally agree that more companies should experiment with perimeter weighting other than foam. I heard that the new Holbrooks (the Aero series) are using weighted plates in the corners to get similar results as Paddletek or something like that. If you don’t do a review, you should at least see what they’re up to and talk about it on the pod. Would love to hear your thoughts on it.
@john did you review the Thompson? They mfg near where I grew up and I had a chance to see one (didn't get to play with it) while visiting Michigan from Florida. Love to hear your thoughts. Cheers
The new way of measurement is not complete - it is missing the travel vector. When a human swing a paddle, the body, arm, etc. is usually move towards the direction of travel - to where you want to hit the ball to. Conservation of energy. 1:10:36
So I want to go from monarch all court to something with more power but still huge or bigger sweet spot. You would recommend the paddletek esqc 14.2 over ronbus r2 or whatever? I'm very curious
@@JaxxCrashit reminds me of playing with a Gen3 Scorpeus (not the 3S). Good balance of control and power. The sweet spot is pretty uniform all over the face. I feel like there aren’t any dead spots unless you hit close to the handle. But unlike the trampoline effect of the Gen3 which made it feel soft/hollow, the R2 feels more solid but not rigid. I didn’t like how it played out of the box because it was super light at 7.8oz. But adding 12 grams of tungsten tape (6 on each side) made it play great for me. Spin is incredible, balls dip real quick on drives. It’s a very fun paddle to play with. Ronbus has a winner with the Ripple. I feel like it was worth the wait.
Yes but the ripple isn’t guaranteed with a lot of issues. Speed from long drives and serves. It gets hotter, twist weight compared to paddle tek is horrible. Both are light all depends if you want the paddle to do all the work or actually have something behind it. I have tried them all and for sure the paddletek is a way overall better paddle
@jwalker87051 ah you tried the esq c and ripple r2? You strongly recommend the esq over the r2? I'm really torn between esq 14.3 and ripple r2 it's so hard to choose. I'm coming from the monarch all court which has been solid just wish I had a more power with a same or bigger sweet spot.
I'm impressed with the Thompson paddles. The handle is a little wonky, with the knob at the end and the ovular shape, but besides that, they're both heavy hitters with great spin. They remind me of PaddleTeks
Eddie … sorry foot problems getting you down. I had one thought from my own experience. I think if I remember correctly one of the places you play is Lifetime. If it’s a Lifetime with surface built over the wood basketball court, maybe more hours there rather than other courts until foot settles down. (Is it plantar fasciitis?). Many of us who mainly play Lifetime, we notice immediately when we play other locations without the wood floor give.
Really great idea brining CG on for the a weekly PPA recap. I would suggest that perhaps in the future try and make the segment a bit more conversational. This one felt a bit like a standard pro interview. Nonetheless, loved the pod. Thanks!
Good feedback - his first appearance will naturally be more 'get to know Connor' style, but the goal for future episodes is more casual with some hot takes
Can someone talks to Governing bodies to Please increase the kitchen area for serves to be too short and angled impossible to encounter. People gain huge advantage by this so the game become one sided or unplayakble
HEY JOHN! I have a buddy who got the 3s’ hyperions both 14 & 16 He used the 14 maybe 5 times. The 16 maybe 2 and they both rattle, and they’re both crushed
Please note the CRBN tour bag is $140.00.. In the podcast you said it was $200.00 .. I think CRBN bag for $140.00 is best bag for the price. .. You must also think its a great bag because you thought it could be valued at $200.00 Thanks for everything else you covered. CRBN TOUR BAG.. Best bag on the market. only $140.00
John's being very kind in his interpretation here. @PickleballMedicine removed the edgeguard in his review and found that it was just.. putty. nothing magical/metal-ish (or polyester) infused into it, just the kind you'd be playing with as a kid. th-cam.com/video/EdgEtKRrbB4/w-d-xo.html
I guess we dodged a bullet those Paddletek balls weren’t marketed as Titanium. Never want to have a ball x-ray and hear “balls aren’t there”. I think John’s hand speed metrics are causing Eddie’s foot issues.
Great pod! So from the xray paddletek is not using the edge foam like other brands do. Instead they use internal weighting to increase the sweet spot without the risks of crushing the core along the parameter. Am I getting this right?
@@johnkewpickleball Thanks. BTW, do you dig a little deeper into the Onix patent thing and share your thoughts? I think it might have big implication on the whole paddle industry...

Luv Connor smiling during the entire interview.. and so complimentary of everyone 😊
CG is great player and an even better person! Need more peeps like him in pickleball!!
Thank you, John & Eddie for clarifying the esq c weight system used. 12.7mm uses a weighted ball, the 14.3mm uses putty.
I really like the CRBN tour bag, the best bang for your buck with it retailing at $139.99 and basically being 2 bags since a sling bag detaches
I've been using the ADV Backpack V2 and its been my favorite bag by far.
Same here! If they made a slightly smaller backpack, I’d be all over it.

Also its only $140.00 .. Kew said it was $200.00
I’d love a weighting update on the ESQ. What did you settle on after more tinkering. Can’t seem to find my ideal setup yet.
as far as recommendations on the 12.7 vs the 14.3 , would like to know both of your play test preferences. thanks!
hahaha "Kew & A" - love it!

My hunch is that the putty is weighted itself, similar to tungsten putty

I'm liking mine. Playing with the right weight set up.
Great podcast as usual. Does this paddle work out of the box? I'd like to try the ESQ-C 14.3mm. Thanks.
Yes, you can play the ESQ-C 14.3 stock. I prefer it with 6 grams of weight total, but it can be played stock
How does the ESQ compare to their Bantam TKO C. Seems strange to release this so shortly after the TKO line
Man i have a life beyond pB lol
Great PODcast episode! Do you have any plans on reviewing the KiwiLabs Circuit paddle?
how does the ALW ESQ compare to the Olympus?

Sad to hear that your Ripple has broken in and gotten to Gearbox levels. Hoping it doesn't go beyond that.
Same - I hope it plateaus at this level
Will you guys talk at all about the Holbrook Aero series?
Is Eddie’s hoodie from centerline?
So I want to go from monarch all court to something with more power but still huge or bigger sweet spot. You would recommend the paddletek esqc 14.2 over ronbus r2 or whatever? I'm very curious
I’d go with the R2 Ripple. Great control, tons of power and pop, generous sweet spot. Of course I’m biased coz I play with one.

Definitely more power in the ESQ than the J3K

High level players don't need power paddles. We have fast hands and power with any paddle.
