2007 Suzuki transmission sticking in park and not starting. I suspect the problem is a Neutral Safety Switch. After I remove, clean, and reinstall it, I will post my results in the comments. There are a few great videos showing how to remove and clean an NSS, so I decided I probably won't make a video of me doing the job. NSS's look pretty similar on any make of car or truck with an automatic transmission. I am not a mechanic so jobs tend to take me a really long time. Also I have never done body work. That is why the wife's car is getting fixed and why this Suzuki's body is in rough shape. FBW. Lol. I hope this was helpful and I hope I am right about the cause of the problem. If I ever figure out what the problem is, I will put the culprit and hopefully the solution in the comment section.

The shift lock problem is common in alot of vehicles . .. it should be a solinoid switch in front of ...under shifter

A mechanic told me the same thing, after I went and misdiagnosed this lol. I haven't looked into it though, but your both probably right.

UPDATE: I failed to take the NSS off without breaking it all to hell. Also, unlike the NSS on a Cherokee, the Suzuki nss is riveted together rather then screwed together like jeeps. Junk yards want you to buy the whole transmission because they know your libel to break the nss attempting to remove it.
So what I did was, use a PVC cutting blade from a hacksaw to cut the female connector off the nss (since the rest of the part was ruined, make use of the connector that's built onto it) . I cut it off as close to the "clam shell" of the part, so I had lots of excess plastic to shave away with the broken hacksaw blade I used . I did that by putting it in a vice and filing away the plastic on either side and all around 7 or so copper leadsyou see exposed where you made the cut. I then weaved a single 8 inch fully stripped piece of copper wire in a snaking figure 8 kind of fashion around all the posts so they all connected as 1 to create a circuit. I then covered it with electrical tape and then tuck tap to protect it from water and dirt. Then I clipped it back into the harness. It started. BUT... now it starts in Park, Reverse, Neutral, every gear as well so,.. DISCLAIMER; I DO NOT ADVOCATE THIS PROCEDURE, IT CREATES A VERY DANGERIOUS POTENTIAL FOR INJURY OR DEATH. Also I haven't solved the shift lock problem. And with out the switch the gear position lights on the gage cluster won't tell you what gear (park, reverse, natural etc) your in. Also a potential hazard.

The park lever is on the recall list. It doesn't always stay in park...rolling back or foward. You can take any 2007 Suzuki Grand Vitara to dealer and they fix it on recall...at no cost to auto owner.

@@Matty6983 is it worth the money? My mom loves and swears by Suzuki, I used to drive her sx4 before I bought a Subaru but I'm on the fence. They're super cheap now a days but idk if I'm better off with jeep or gmc (2000 or older)

@@jimbo15151515 I sold mine. Never fixed it up. Jeeps are probably a better choice since Suzuki isn't really a thing anymore. This transmission issue must be common because this video gets alot more views than any other video I made.

@@Matty6983 I appreciate the response. I'll definitely look into jeeps, my main concern was parts availability since they all have to be imported (oem) ever since they pulled out of the us.
