Great run. Appreciate the rubber band AI explanation. Never understood it when I was a kid but just knew the computer was cheating. We had f use a Game Genie just to see how long it went on before realizing that it never ends.
I think I finished this game three times over. Each time it keeps getting faster and faster. It gets insane after you get to the third round of starting over.
I've managed to win every race in this game through the first 30 something races a bunch of times maybe even into the 40s, I don't remember. This was my favorite game when I was between the ages of 7-11 years old. Also you can kind of angle the missiles around a corner to hit the cars, on your twitch stream you said you lost but you were right there where if you had turned your car slightly around the corner and fired you could hit the car in front of you that is off the screen. I was able to do this a lot when I played. Playing level 22 was always really fun, one time I lapped the field TWICE!

It's explained in the comments, is to allow the Orange car to get that speed boost so he can finish the stage faster by allowing the Orange car to take first place.
Could you imagine rubber banding but with the player instead of just the com players, rubber banding in racing games are that com players go faster when behind 1st place but only when the player is in 1st.

All you need is third place and better to proceed to the next level. Later on, the AI starts rubber banding and it becomes almost impossible to catch up too. Therefore he wants to knock out one of the competitors so that he insures his third place therefore going on to the next level

Did you seriously not see the red arrows on the track?!? Hitting those is what causes the vehicles to take off so fast. Random, my ass

The orange car absolutely cheats. It’s designed to do so. You’re supposed to bomb it or missiles it repeatedly to keep it from getting ahead of you.
When me and my brother started playing this in the early 90's we would so excited to see the different trophies you'd get from each level!
When you master this game you feel like a big man.
