I love how almost all your gripes and fears for total war warhammer have come true and how - 7 years later with the 3rd game out - it is still relevant
Currently my favourite youtuber and I have been subscribed only around a month or so. You definitely deserve more subscribers man. Plus didn't expect this because you said you would be busy
If the crossbows reload faster than a musket they would have to be goats foot lever or hand spanned which would also mean they would do less damage than a bow with a draw weight over 75 lbs. Only crossbows loaded using a cranequin or windlass were more powerful than good war bows because of their short powerstroke.
Manderson matters Crossbows should be simply cheaper quicker to train with maybe slightly better armour piecing ability. They were slow loading inaccurate and short ranged so it seems best to simply make them a cheaper unit.
Gareth Brooks-Martin Crossbows are more accurate than muskets or bows and yes they are super easy to train, But if they reload quicker than muskets they should have less armor piercing range and damage then high quality bows, If they take longer to reload than muskets they should have more armor piercing damage and range though slightly less accuracy at long range than high quality bows.
Manderson matters yes, that’s do to the decrease in efficiency from the shorter distance the arrow travels before it is at flight. My apologies I miss read your post.
In Rome II and Attila, the menu that appears when you want to upgrade a unit could be expanded to include a "choose Uniqe Items", "Choose Captains"(the guy that are different from the rest of the unit next to the flag) and a "Choose Standart" (this would be different from faction to faction, fx for the Chaos faction it would be blesings). The items would work like a retainer but be bound to a unit, and maybe be equiped by the Captain. There could also be another "choose item tab for choosing the weapon of the soldiers (this would i most cases be infinite supply). Captains would be more like a simple upgrade you give the units upon recuitment, giving the units a little more morale, attack or defence etc. Lastly the Special would be a upgrade you could give the men when when they reach Exp Rank 3 (or some building) and be buffs too, but maybe be limited to one of each pr. army. Just a thought thou...
I like the concept of an agent/unit hybrid. An agent that when you attach it to a settlement or an army it and its retinue appear on the battle field map.
On your ideas of firing drill, all I have to say is alot of them are pretty far out of the rennaisance-1600's setting. Most units shot in volleys due to them not being too complicated, unlike the ripple fire idea you have for the crossbowmen, regarding handgunners, a good method would be a fire in volleys option, where the front rank only (if stood) fires or front two ranks if they allow the front rank kneel option like they had in fots. Other than those, standard shooting tactics used in musket blocks during 1600's would work fine, like fire by introduction (rear rank of the block walks to the front, fires, reloads then the new rear rank marches to the front, fires reloads ect) And fire by extroduction (introduction backwards) And fire by folorn. Which is where a file at a time marches forward to a point designated by the serjeant (which having the ability to designate where you want the serjeant to go would be awesome), volley fires, returns then the next file marches to the same point, gives fire and so on.
Could you do a lore video on the State Troops and their unique versions depending on the region? I have been waiting to hear about the average human trooper in the Empire.
I watch this every year and I have to say creative Assembly butchered the empire. State troops are a joke and are only good for holding the line while getting no kills and it just doesn’t make sense to the lore. Spear men should be the worst and yet I take them more then any other unit because they are the cheapest and let my mages or artillery do their job while whatever lord I have tries not to die so that my army doesn’t mass rout. I wish the would go back and make swords men more dangerous and great swords even more so while the halberdiers become the main stay unit like in the lore. I think the stats don’t have to change much but instead their attacks animations so that the swords men attack faster and great swords could do multi unit hitters to denote their great swing. As for cave they just need to be more armored and then they will be takable again.
Living Day by day from playing my friends empire his spearmen are actually the bear damage unit and the state troops are really there to hold all his damage is from character artillery and grate swords
@@livingdaybyday3469 I mean, they’ve got great cav, artillery, and ranged units. Plus great magic and hero units Can’t make everything they have really strong.
I found the idea that Generals becomes Wizard/Priest quite disturbing lore wise, to be honest. I think the better way to do this, would be a system with supporting chars for a army. General I would envision a Warhammer Total War army the following: You got a General, which is the physical melee noble birth/ruler class every faction has (for the empire, the General), you got a Army standard, carry by the smaller version of the General (for the empire: the captain), you got 20’s slots for units (TW standard) and then you get slots for supporting characters like Mages, Priest, additional Captains and other supporting characters (Technicus, Witchhunters and equivalent). The amount of slots should depend of the faction, since goblins can’t 1v1 a high elf, they should have more slots for characters. For the Empire, as a faction of medium strength, I would image 5 slots. One note for the Standard: the captain wearing it lvl up himself (slightly different skills as the normal captain), but also does the flag (army traditions). If the carrier is killed, the standard still has the traditions on it. If you want to “reinstate a Legend”, than you should have to recapture the flag first. Since the flag should be a caption able item. PS: for the Technicus I would image that his ultimate ability would give you one random freaky invention. Ice thrower, mechnaical Angels, steammech and many other fun stuff. Overall, from all characters, he has the most of possibilities. How about a ability to place landmines, while in the defence? How about to give the muskets champion special weapons?
What I liked about the great weapons in table top and twwh was they gave +1-2s and in the game they became armour penetration weapons just like the negative armour to strength.
Not really handguns as we use the term. Handguns are not long-barreled and are intended to be fired with one or two hands. They most definitely are not weapons that are around a metre in length. Effectively, handgunner in this context is probably based on the use of the word gonne or handgonne to designate earlier handcannons. (Very primitive firearm for those who are getting confused, having no stock or even a trigger, just a very small "cannon" on a stick) In weapons terms, they are either calivers, which are "standardized" arquebuses (though given that they are flintlocks this would be somewhat inaccurate) firing a "uniform" calibre of ball, or early muskets intended to be fired with a stand or shoulder, possibly both, as muskets were intended to deliver a stronger shot. (muskets including weapons that where wheel-lock in the late 1500's to mid 1600's) Depends entirely on how the weapons are intended to be used, are they heavier weapons intended to be fired with a stand( possibly shouldered), or simply standardized weapons fired as it is without bracing them with a stand, delivering a lighter load. Does the empire even make a distinction between those weapons ? Of course, the term musket came to mean simply flintlock shoulder fired weapon later. primitive flintlock musket would probably be more accurate then handgun, but that's just my opinion. And as everyone know, opinions are like arseholes. Everyone has them.
I think a cool addition would be that certain units have an effect on the campaign map, like having hunters in your army should reduce either attrition or upkeep costs, because of foraging, ofcourse more hunters (or depending on location, can't exactly hunt if there's no game) means greater benefits.
Given that Medieval 2 has Call of Warhammer letting you play as each province of the empire with fully modeled unique provincial troops, it would be stupid on the part of CA to not allow us to enjoy each province's unique spin on units. Or god forbid lock those behind pay walls. You can just point everyone at the mod for medieval 2 (which IMO is so far supperior to what I've seen from the new game. For one, a combat engine capable of modeling a unit getting broken to hell by a charge is a god send. I can live without flying units or magic as long as the actual combat feels like combat and not like balet. And second: let me list the factions: All empire provinces (with unique units+chance to get mercenary companies each turn+be rewarded with bright wizards/steam tanks/warrior priests for missions)/Sylvania/Elves and Dark Elves expeditions (can recruit only in port cities and not during winter)/Dwarven Kingdoms/Kislev/Skaven/Tomb Kings/Norsca/Chaos Dwarves/Orcs&Goblins/Night Goblins/Warriors of *insert chaos god* (starts as 4 factions, once you conquer the other 3, you become chaos undivided, start the storm of chaos, and get Archaos and his retinue of champions with 5 stacks (1 for each god+1undivided))/Beastmen).
Maybe the warrior priest of sigmar can be like a general( but not actually one) when you recruit him you pick what unit he is in(pikemen, spears, great sword, sword men, any melee unit really) and you have to pay the normal cost for the unit plus a cost for the priest. The priest gives the unit morale and a slight boost to nearby units, he also has his own stats in the unit and would probably be the best fighter in the unit but if he dies it is a hit to morale, he can also have a religious frenzy ability(kind of like the beserk special ability in previous titles) that makes the unit much better( with maybe no bad side effects) which if you attach him to a unit of great swords or dismounted knights the unit can become your armies heaviest hitter possibly changing the tide of battles. But if he dies your army gets a negative morale bonus so you can balance his between support and offensive( his morale bonus should not be greater then the generals for nearby units and the generals should have more abilities so he dosen't replace the general)
Late comment, but one should NEVER underestimate the destructive powers of the Medieval 2 shield wall. That thing will throw your enemies around like a goddamn cav charge
longbows can pierce full late medieval plate mail (at least at 30+ range by the way) but they don't seem to be in the this world, but do keep that in mind
Sir Dude I think the best archers (and bows) in this universe should be found in the High Elf or Wood Elf armies. They are probably quite magical as well so it's possible they would be able to pierce full plate armor.
Sir Dude Archers in the Empire are mostly conscripted rabble, nothing like the English longbowmen who had to practice archery regularly from childhood by law.
Gakgaming well i was just saying because a longbow can pierced full plate armor and i thought giving huntsmen longbows would make them a unit you may want if people previously didn't want them
Sir Dude I'm not sure if they do have longbows. Even then, it's fantasy, even if you can pierce a steel armor, what about gromril? What about chaos armor?
I know I'm a bit late with the comment but hey. They do, but not all provinces do so, one of the most prominent is Wissenland who are basiclly using pike and shot tactics thanks to all of the forgeries in their province. I think they're so rare because halberds are often just better, especially against big opponents like giants, fuckhueg Spiders and so on.
The point at which Engineers with Sniper Rifles become especially important is when you're fighting against Vampire Counts. Those guys are VERY reliant upon their characters and especially their General. Obviously sniping the Vampire Lord is amazing, and nearly an instant win if you kill him early in the game and then play even halfway competently, but you don't even need to get that jackpot to get great value from the Sniper. Sniping a Necromancer is still a great kill, because they're very reliant on their magic. VC have terrible basic troops, no ranged weapons, and no artillery, and they use their magic to plug these holes in their army (resurrecting troops, buffs via Vigor Mortis, ranged damage with Gaze of Nagash and Curse of Years). Sniping the Necromancer reduces their magic capability, and reducing their magic ability massively hurts their ability to cover their otherwise crippling weaknesses.
I would like a fire at will button for all range units(archers, crossbows, gunners, and artillery), it would also be cool if all mounted units can dismount so when their mounts get tired they can get off fully rested which would allow you to strengthen your lines so they don't break, attack from behind, don't get a disadvantage against spears, or go on walls in sieges either defending or attacking( because if the enemies are climbing on the walls the knights should go up their and knock their asses down instead of twirling their thumbs on the ground)
Shogun 2 and Empire Total War had cavalry that could dismount and fight on walls as inf. Abd every TW game has had a fire at will option for every skirmished unit.
Haven't played attila, shogun 2 is my favourite so far so I was not sure about if attila had it and in shogun 2 if your mounted units are tired and they dismount do they get and stamina back?
i really hope that when you upgrade a heroe or lets say equip him with a very rare magical weapon that i will actually show in battle and that even though he is now a arch lector of sigmar and has a magical hammer not just looks like a normal general but he really changes depending on what you give him
ofc he will change! don't be silly! It's not like CA has developed a bit of a reputation for lazily copy pasting models now have they? ahhh fuck... they have haven't they?, my wizard lord is gone wear full plate mail and wave a sword around isn't he? Oh well... as always there is hope! fragile and insubstantial as it may be.
The Militia are gonna be Connor fodder probably, they will most likely be the equivalent to armed citizens from previous games. If we are lucky they might be like Spartan youths who were at least able to do something
Too anyone who didn't know how terrible armed civs were in other games in Rome they had short swords which were useless and in empire they had guns but everything about them was cut in half from your typical line infantry, who made up most of your army
TheEwker some models do but here 4.bp.blogspot.com/-osU19IBivOU/TfQWWmUXe2I/AAAAAAAACLQ/tWZXVC1OQHU/s1600/Handgunners08.jpg those are clerely nott matchlocks
The imperium are the Empire of the 40k. The space marines are closest to the imperial knightly orders, however the imperial knightly orders are not nearly as powerful and influential in their world as the marines are in the Imperium.
...ripple fire was for moral damage. One might worry when the array is ready to fire, but that passes during their long reload. Being under constant fire, even lesser fire... keeps the risk of death constant as any moment could be your last. Especially as your ranks thin.
i don't get the special qualities you talk about got the company militia... looking at the model and listening to your description they just seem like a mob unit. they don't have any special rules or good skills in any sense. i feel like it would be a waste to take these guys instead of another unit of state troops.
Love your videos Mr. Warhammer, but halberds were not used as slashing weapons ever. They could slash but as a mostly anti-knight weapon, it was used much for stabbing and digging into vulnerable spots in the armour.
With all due respect about your idea about the free company... but in the tabletop themselves they are the rumble of the land, throw into combat because prober units are not available enough. Making them a throw away militia unit is exactly the way they are.
Si Wi In a combined force army there is no such thing as a throw away unite. Besides why would you ever implement them as such? this isn't tabletop or real life this is a total war game and no one ever builds militia simply because there is no point to it, much better to implement them as an interesting unite upgrade that also preserves there role in fluff as supporting unites.
Arch Warhammer Well you would build them, if you need mass against weak foes (against goblins they are doing fine), more likely you would get them as garrisons troops for defending towns/villages. TW always had the "peasant" unit which no one but the AI build, so TW is pain free in that regard. Besides I doubt that they will give you supporting units like that, simply because UI has limits. Even the Skaven weapon team will probably a unit own its own. Speaking of Skaven: "In a combined force army there is no such thing as a throw away unite." aren't you a skaven player? You should now better... ;) Besides the role in the fluff is, that they are the scum of the Empire press into service (or prevent looting). At least in the edition before this one, they were.
Arch Warhammer noooo each empire faction its separate!thats the cool thing-not one "empire" army, they can make dlc so many special regiments, imagine this!not all same baner etc
Arch Warhammer Really like this idea and hope it gets implemented. Levy spearmen and huntsmen can serve as generic Empire infantry. How realistic is this sort of unit addition??

Too anyone who didn't know how terrible armed civs were in other games in Rome they had short swords which were useless and in empire they had guns but everything about them was cut in half from your typical line infantry, who made up most of your army
love the rambling with out your rambling itd be boring
Witch hunters as agents maybye?
Empire handgunners in warhammer use matchlock muskets....
TheEwker some models do but here 4.bp.blogspot.com/-osU19IBivOU/TfQWWmUXe2I/AAAAAAAACLQ/tWZXVC1OQHU/s1600/Handgunners08.jpg those are clerely nott matchlocks
Arch Warhammer Some of those ones they're look like primitive flintlock and wheel-locks.
TheEwker I wouldn't see it too far fetched for have wheel-loques, snaphanz, dogloques and other sorts of fireloques.
Just BINGE re playing, commenting and liking (after the hack) ..
They should make warrior mages and such characters in the style of the katana (yari, bow samurai) hero unit
You sound different in this video. It seems like your voice is a bit higher in this vid than any other vid.
anyone know the background music ?
Anomalie by Incompetech
Cool! What are your thoughts on that old Milton Bradley game, BattleMasters?
Been wondering what that knock off warhammer from my childhood was called. Thanks!
LOL! I would not say knock off, but more of a preview of the Warhammer universe.
It's bonus versus entities
Sniper a guaranteed hit, not the the XCOM world it isn't lol. Sorry that comment just made me think that. Wicked video btw.
FOR THE EMPEROR!!!!!!
Where did you find this music? it really suits Warhammer your voice.
just in case your still looking for it 6 months later
if you still watch arch i would recommend you save it somewhere because he cut out the music
Awesome
This kind of makes me want total war to increase the numbers per unit. I always hated 60 people armies...80 is low but it still works but 60 gnaarl :P
ragsash Unit numbers are determined by the "Unit Size" option.
If I'm not mistaken you can go up to 120.
is there a warhammer fantasy version of space marine?
+Bernard Rednix technically, yes in the form of either bretonnia or the warrior priests of the empire
Nick Rohrer are they genetically engineered as well?
+Bernard Rednix No
They just have balls in the place of all that fancy tech shit
The imperium are the Empire of the 40k. The space marines are closest to the imperial knightly orders, however the imperial knightly orders are not nearly as powerful and influential in their world as the marines are in the Imperium.
Spez merns
Only war-waagh
..."blunderbus"?
...ripple fire was for moral damage.
Please do a video on all the states of the empire. Also how does one pronounce talabecland? is it tala-beck-land or talAah-beck-land?
A bit harsh saying that humans are un special :)
Love your videos Mr. Warhammer, but halberds were not used as slashing weapons ever. They could slash but as a mostly anti-knight weapon, it was used much for stabbing and digging into vulnerable spots in the armour.
IM THE 40,001st VIEW EMERGERD!
you're the chosen of the god emperor of mankind
With all due respect about your idea about the free company... but in the tabletop themselves they are the rumble of the land, throw into combat because prober units are not available enough.
Making them a throw away militia unit is exactly the way they are.
Si Wi In a combined force army there is no such thing as a throw away unite.
Besides why would you ever implement them as such? this isn't tabletop or real life this is a total war game and no one ever builds militia simply because there is no point to it, much better to implement them as an interesting unite upgrade that also preserves there role in fluff as supporting unites.
Arch Warhammer
Well you would build them, if you need mass against weak foes (against goblins they are doing fine), more likely you would get them as garrisons troops for defending towns/villages.
You should now better... ;)
Besides the role in the fluff is, that they are the scum of the Empire press into service (or prevent looting). At least in the edition before this one, they were.
Arch Warhammer noooo each empire faction its separate!thats the cool thing-not one "empire" army, they can make dlc so many special regiments, imagine this!not all same baner etc
Arch Warhammer
Really like this idea and hope it gets implemented. Levy spearmen and huntsmen can serve as generic Empire infantry. How realistic is this sort of unit addition??
Si Wi "I don't expect them to hold, I expect them to die." - Quote of some Empire General from a Call Of Warhammer mod loading screen.
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
the day a lore vid doesn't have a guy lapping his chops in between every word ...fucking drives me crazy
i respect the none nobility more than nobility
Lol
