Hey Robotopolous! First of all, great video like always (player expression is basically why i play AC other than the story and all) second of all i wanted to share a little hidden feature/bug i found in Mirage. When youre in a pole, get up while holding the aim and jump button with any tool you like while climbing up that pole (make sure there is a place for you to land safely or to grab safely) and then press the throw button while jumping to the desired direction. Basim will throw mid-air the tool youre currently holding in any context you'd like (as long youre not activating that pesky "free-jump" animation that can activate the manual roll). Edit:i also wanted to say that the overall message of the first half of the video is really good, and i just don't understand people who complain on parkour videos of how senseless they are, when thats the whole point of the video.
@was_b4 I'm very interested in that pole trick but I'm having a hard time understanding exactly what you mean...is there any chance you could record and upload it so I can check it out?
Love the video, and I love the Mirage content. I finally picked the game up and I'm about 12 hours in and I gotta say it's probably my new favorite AC game. I love the gameplay, story, and especially the setting!

While I personally never had to face such comments (yet), the way I see it is that, I'm providing an exhibit. I opted for style, and this is what I was able to formulate. I am here to showcase the best that one can do in these games in terms of looking cool and expressing oneself. To say, "The pathing is inefficient" and "Who moves like that?" is missing the point of the showcase in its entirety
I think this comes from a place not so much of misunderstanding style, but of struggling to see how to integrate it into their gameplay. When most people play Assassin's Creed, they're using parkour to get from one objective to the next, and they're probably doing so by holding forward+climb. The really lost ones are running along the street, how to help them is a similar conversation, but for another day. So when you show them a video of someone running around in circles doing face-melting tricks and tell them "this is what parkour is," the only context they have is the opposite extreme, so they naturally reach the conclusion that doing face-melting tricks is only useful for running in circles, we play like crazy people, and further entrench into the idea that holding forward+climb is the optimal way to play the game because they have no context of optimizations for the purpose of directional traversal. While it is absolutely incredibly expressive on its own, parkour's actual purpose to the game structure is to support stealth. That's it. All other feelings of flow and optimizations simply trickle down from the depth of its support capabilities, which includes getting you from one target to the next quickly and above their lines of sight. Getting from one location to the next quickly and above crowds of civilians blocking your path can simply be extrapolated from that by increasing the distance. So when you present it completely divorced from its intended purpose, you may be fulfilling your artistic motivations, but you'll always struggle to reach the critical minds who don't share the desire to push themselves *exclusively* for style, but could still benefit greatly from it in their playstyle - need I remind you that critical thinking is a core principle of the creed. If you want to use your platform to make better Assassins, there's a better way to find that middle ground they don't realize they're looking for
Yea I always thought about that. Ever since I made my channel I thought, what am I even doing? Making cool parkour videos and killing some guards, that's it! But then again when you do finish the run and it looks amazing. That is just the most satisfying thing ever
lol, most of my mirage stuff had a destination cuz it has exact location saves so I can reload and reset, most of my classics stuff don’t cuz it will destroy my brain resetting 😂
I feel people that say the negative things that they normally say really don't know what they're even talking about, saying it looks "unrealistic", but the thing is, it's accurate to how someone who does parkour in real life would do things. It would be a specific route to take, not always from one point to another, a lot of the time, just for fun. Then I can get into what's called freerunning which is really parkour but immensely creative movement like using complicated flips or irregular routes. If you look up "parkour videos" or "freerunning" you would find the two to be similar to how runs are done in assassin's creed, great amount of self expression, creativity, uniqueness.
0:19 that’s not what he asked for. He wanted to see parkour actually being practically relevant to the game when he plays it. Most people don’t just log into ac to wonder around and then get so bored they drop the game.
As a parkour athlete. And having played the AC games the parkour is always cool to look at some moves in the game are actual moves in the sport of parkour. Such as arm jumps, cat hangs, strides, cat backs, speed vaults. But some of the jump distances are crazy and a lot of the materials you jump on in the game in real ife many of those objects could be unstable. None the less the parkour looks cool and it is a video game
AC Parkour is similar to Arkham or Hitman Stealth or Style Action Combat since you could just use the basic moves the games teach you to get through, but it's much more fun when you experiment with it in your own way.
Most parkour videos I see just circle around this one house then they go to where the target is, circle around the area and kill a few guards. THEN kill the target. (Oh and also with sweater weather in the background)
I mean, I also occasionally thought that the parkour paths people may take are not translated well to realistic movement and may occasionally get overcomplicated, but I never took any issue with that. Parkour is a form of self-expression, isn't it? Not all people are calculating machines that do the most logical or effective things. I watch AC vids because I like being surprised at the creativity of the mind in the moment when it matters, and if I wanted to watch the most optimized and well thought out moves and actions, there's speedruns on the other end of that spectrum. Cool vid as always m8
I guess i'll be the one person to disagree slightly. Right off the bat, the argument is being straw manned. None of those comments in the beginning or others i have seen suggest you have to be the Most efficient or Most logical. They are simply stating that a lot of parkour videos seem aimless/"running in circles". I accept the explanation as to why, but It's kind of not fair to address an argument that wasn't actually made. Parkour as a concept in real life already merges the extremes of style and efficiency. It's very essence is a perfect marriage of stylistic movement with purpose and or destination. However, also in real life, There are parkour demonstrations that prioritize style over everything else and it devolves into nothing but a random flips and gymnastics video. Take one element away and true parkour ceases to exist and you're just left with a whole bunch of random movements, or an overly calculated and boring speedrun.
Since my comment was one of those he has shown in the start of the video, it seems I'll have to clarify myself too, and well, you're right. My main issue with the video I commented on wasn't that he was being "pointlessly stylish" or "didn't take the absolute most efficient perfect route", it just felt "unnatural" because, instead of doing cool and complex stuff *across the city* which have plenty of parkour oportunities, it feels weird to just keep circling the same spots over and over again, when most of the more mechanically complex or stylish stuff can be perfectly showcased in more than just a single area of the map. Parkour at least *looks* "efficient" because even with all the "unnecessary" stuff for style points, the sense of momentum and direction isn't sacrificed. It is the most efficient way of travelling from A to B without sacrificing style or skill expression. When you take away the sense of direction and keep doing parkour in circles, it is just no longer parkour. He isn't wrong to do his parkour runs the way he likes, no, but his skillful and stylish runs would feel even better to watch if he could pass off such style expression as being genuinely usable in casual parkour where you wander around the entire city with no set objective, instead of looking like the parkour run is "restrained" to a specific place.
Then I’ll address the “wandering in circles” argument. This is necessarily a limitation of complex choreography, where there is the highest possible NEED for consistency. This consistency is best reinforced by consistent routing. There’s a reason why many creators choose to do circuits: it’s because they need a route with a clear beginning and ending (so as to keep the narrative cohesive amidst the technicality), but also because less structured runs introduce variability and therefore inconsistency. Both of you also argue that this kind of “artificial” approach does not reflect “real” parkour, that they lack use-value for the casual player. I disagree, as that is chiefly a misunderstanding of the core principles of these kinds of videos. They are not here to showcase a streamlined parkour run, or an A to B approach, or something otherwise improvised like in a walkthrough. Instead, these videos are chiefly meant to demonstrate the possibilities that can be achieved within the systems and level design of these games-achievements which can truly only be showcased in such a controlled environment. Does this necessarily devalue the content for the casual player? I would say that the answer is a resounding no. The truth is that choreography-especially COMPLEX choreography-has pedagogical value, because it reveals new ways to move, new ways to use mechanics, and new ways to use contexts. I’ve seen lot of people say that they actually learned how to parkour more effectively by watching these kinds of videos, and it is precisely because it is THESE videos which change mindsets and unlock possibilities. If a casual player wanted to watch parkour that is “usable” for them by your standards, they can just play the game themselves. Does this quality of “artificiality” also dampen the quality of the movement itself? I would also argue no. You argue that these runs lack efficiency, direction, and momentum. I disagree. You say the runs are overly convoluted, and while the movement inherent to these videos is increasingly granular and stylized, rather than streamlined, these videos contain dozens of optimizations that make them far more efficient than the average run. Cancels, ejects, and tech, beyond just being used for style, are frequently used to shave off milliseconds and even entire seconds off a run to keep it as smooth as possible. Ah, but your problems are with the routing. Again, this is a misunderstanding-the routing is as efficient as it can be by necessity, because to do otherwise is to introduce variability. This “wandering around in circles” problem is not because the choreographers are randomly moving about wherever they want-it is because the runs are EFFICIENT TO THE POINT OF EXCESS. This is for the sake of not only consistency, but also for momentum AND direction, which is claimed to be lacking. The optimizations and routing made in these runs is so efficient precisely to maintain momentum, insofar as to maintain a high density of actions, and this routing is done, often as a circuit in order to clearly maintain the sense of direction! The constant twists and turns, changes in elevations, they are all there precisely to enforce the sense of direction. What does this leave us with? I can only conclude that both of you are using arbitrary definitions and proclamations to project your own personal preferences onto these videos. Stating your preference is perfectly fine and natural. However, saying that this “isn’t real parkour” or “useless” or “random” when that is blatantly false is an issue. Your problems are rooted in entirely different things than you say they are. I implore both of you to try to understand the kinds of decisions, planning, and work that go into choreography, rather than simply deriding it. Again, your problems are not with randomness, a lack of efficiency, or usability-it is the sense of “artificiality,” which again, exists as a NECESSITY.
@LoukaSOSKamelaris I'm pretty busy at the moment so I'm gonna let Kinography here by my official spokesperson on the matter, but I did wanna let you know that these comments were just the ones I could find that demonstrate a narrative I see every so often in my comments. I have around 4,000 total comments on my channel so finding them for a video is not exactly easy.
I'd like to parkour like your "overcomplicated" section but I always have Basim get stuck into some weird animation, and I mostly don't know how to pull specific actions off. For instance, I know you can do side ejects, but when I try and jump to the side, Basim just falls to the ground as if I pressed Crouch, and I'm also not sure how to use wooden beams to swing instead of climbing up on them. I think when you start parkouring around the city to get to your next objective it feels kinda natural to want to make it more stylish. It's the reason why in games like the Ezio trilogy you'd always be on the rooftops instead of simply running on street level after all. People complaining about this sound exactly like the ones who say "Why do so many unnecessary moves in a DMC game when you could just spam this?" Although I must say, your "non-choreographed" segment (the part in the video where you start rambling) feels way more natural and how I suppose you'd play the game outside of recording videos. My only gripe with the game so far is that parkouring feels a bit slow at times, as if Basim had to stop for a bit before running on ropes and climbing.
I totally agree. Imagine being a guard and seeing this fool randomly jumping around until he finally attacks you 🤔.......... "I just want maximum style points." 😅
Hell, add a style meter to the next ac game. The games being designed around running to a destination alone is why we get levels that are just straight run throughs and mechanics with no depth. let's get people moving and actually exploring movement potential.
@@Ropotopolous more like 90% of the time. The only games in the series that parkour is somewhat faster are ac1 ac2 and revelation. Other than that the rest is always slower than just running tbh

Im suprised no AC game has tine trials in the world. They were so close with brotherhood. But having them in a custom environment doesnt teach you to do them in the world itself
Couldn't have put it better myself. If you want the most optimal path from A to B then half the time just running straight there will do the trick. The whole point is style. Otherwise why bother making a video?
For me an important point of making videos has always been to share with others something new they maybe hadn't considered before, in fact I like to intentionally NOT play in a "normal" way, going from A to B like a mission objektive. If somebody chooses to spend their free time watching one of my videos it should be a different experience than simply playing for themselves. If all I do is to go in a straight, predictable line without many surprises, then I almost feel like wasting a viewer"s time, at least that's how I would feel if I'd be watching a very straight forward run where I can already tell what's going to happen before it does.
You know, something is lacking in the gamers mindset these days, and that thing is Creativity. Gaming communities hold those who achieved "100%/Platinum/no dmg/no hit..." with high regards, but few manage to do the same with people using creativity to play the game. Some even call those creative solution "cheating/cheese/..." P/s: Don't get me wrong, the no-hit/100% try hards are also pretty cool, I just wish that people appreciate the "creativity & expression" aspect in games more
That's a really good point. Some gaming communities look down on ac for not being super difficult in most regards. But we just push the game in different ways and prioritize creative gameplay.
There's no use explaining it. Those who like your videos already understand the beauty in stylish parkour. Those who don't will not understand it even after this video.
There is almost never actually a reason or logic to parkouring on rooftops to your destination, especially in the ezio trilogy it is usually better to go on ground, yet everyone still goes on rooftops cuz its fun

If you want to use your platform to make better Assassins, there's a better way to find that middle ground they don't realize they're looking for
💯💯💯

Ropotopolous, we both agree on wanting to be cremated on a Darth Vader mask, my man 🤝
Most parkour videos I see just circle around this one house then they go to where the target is, circle around the area and kill a few guards.
People complaining about this sound exactly like the ones who say "Why do so many unnecessary moves in a DMC game when you could just spam this?"
Although I must say, your "non-choreographed" segment (the part in the video where you start rambling) feels way more natural and how I suppose you'd play the game outside of recording videos.
I love your videos bro😂❤

This is such a dumb take that’s like me hopping into Spider-Man ps5 and just swing around and because there’s no destination it’s “useless”

Some even call those creative solution "cheating/cheese/..."
P/s: Don't get me wrong, the no-hit/100% try hards are also pretty cool, I just wish that people appreciate the "creativity & expression" aspect in games more
That's a really good point. Some gaming communities look down on ac for not being super difficult in most regards. But we just push the game in different ways and prioritize creative gameplay.
If your footage is longer than your commentary, you could say your closing statement and then fade in some cool music over the rest of the gameplay.
