Mrs. America recounts the movement to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) and the unexpected backlash led by Phyllis Schlafly, aka “the sweetheart of the silent majority.” Through the eyes of the women of the era, the FX series explores how one of the toughest battlegrounds in the culture wars of the 70s helped give rise to the Moral Majority and forever shifted the political landscape.

@4:50 actually, Shirley Chisholm was the first woman of color to run for president and the first to run for the nomination within the two party establishment. Still absolutely remarkable and BRAVE! and absolutely deserving of its place in history. The first woman to ever run for president. As far as anyone can tell was Victoria Woodhull her running mate was Frederick Douglass. It was an extraordinary ticket at a time when not everyone could vote, a woman running for president with a person of color as her running mate, they ran under a third party banner. When asked why she was doing it, she answered “all I seek is a voice in the government to which I am accountable“

Uzo Aduba embodied her character Shirley so well, it was seamless and I forgot I was looking at a tv show. Uzo = Emmy.
