I personally think it would be cool to have an EU member across the black sea. Something a lot of people in western Europe don't know, is that Georgia is also culturally quite close to the rest of Europe, especially relative to its neighbours, it would not have the "problems" a lot of people have with Turkey joining (which has both "Secular/European" but also a lot of "Islamic/Middle Eastern" influenced population).
Because nobody want's to play with Turkey. Not the West, not the East and not even their own backyard (the Middle East). They are indeed still the "Sick man of Europe".
I hope to see soon the EU putting a foot in the caucasus with the integration of Georgia to the club. I do admire the efforts of the country to modernize its economy and values, so that they fit into a modern free democratic western country!

They now realize they can strike more profitable gas deals with Russia (both nations recently completed the Turkstream pipeline which supplies Turkey directly with Russian gas), better arms deals (Turkey's purchase of the Russian S-400) etc. Turkey is the No. 1 destination for Russian tourists each year. While EU membership would be great and Turkey was, is and always will be committed to Europe's security through NATO, they do have other options and opportunities. Both in economy and in politics.

Thank you very much. Subtitles should already be added. :) The language part of the EU is actually quite interesting. Most of the work in most of the institutions is done in English, French and sometimes German, but the EU actaully has 24 official languages. If you watch a debate in the parliment, most will speak their native lanugage which will be instantly translated. The EU employs around 4300 translators and 800 interpreters on its permanent staff.
@@Shumayal There is nothing to do with language knowledge, it's a political thing that languages of all EU member countries have to be equally in use, they all are official l-ges of EU and all countries are supposed to be equal. It's the same as f.e. official meeting of 2 presidents, they both might know let's say English, communicate in English unofficially, but official public presentations, speaches etc.'ll be in the language of the country they are representing.

It's worth mentioning the existence of the EAEU, the Eurasian Economic Union, because you give the impression that there are European countries that are not part of an integrated trade block - or trying to join one. In reality there are only a few that haven't clearly chosen yet. Offhand I think only Serbia and Azerbaijan, and perhaps Moldova, can be considered to be in the balance. The language part of the EU is actually quite interesting. Most of the work in most of the institutions is done in English, French and sometimes German, but the EU actaully has 24 official languages. If you watch a debate in the parliment, most will speak their native lanugage which will be instantly translated. The EU employs around 4300 translators and 800 interpreters on its permanent staff.

@@Shumayal There is nothing to do with language knowledge, it's a political thing that languages of all EU member countries have to be equally in use, they all are official l-ges of EU and all countries are supposed to be equal. It's the same as f.e. official meeting of 2 presidents, they both might know let's say English, communicate in English unofficially, but official public presentations, speaches etc.'ll be in the language of the country they are representing.
