Yeah but as EU members, there is free movement between Ireland and EU states anyway, just bring your passport, but it’s not stamped or anything.
Ireland has the best of both worlds really, with EU membership and the Common Travel Area with UK.
@@darrencorr5903 so I can go up north and get on a boat to Scotland and not have to show my passport to get into UK?
Yup, open border between ROI and NI, then once you’re in NI you’re already in UK so travelling internally then
Yes please! We want a series! :)
Just remember folks. It's either this, or we go back to the last thousand years of wars, wars and more wars.
There's also the Weimar Triangle that consists Poland, Germany and France :D
I like our European union. It might be a messy place but it's as good as it ever was.
No. I hate it.
@@ruzzsverion2728 What you like or dislike is not the same as it actually is.

@@ruzzsverion2728 Why?
1:10 this graphic implies that Sweden, Denmark, Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania and Croatia are not in the EU
it is wrongly marked since that was the eurozone, not the union... that is the problem ..
it also implies that ireland is part of the united kingdom
@@chxxrlo It doesn’t, Ireland and the UK have a common travel area.
And for this reason: dislike.
@@bart_rz no i know that but it points at the box ireland and the uk are in and says "united kingdom" at 1:10
I would like to see a video about BeNeLux and the Nordic Council
King Leopold II of Belgium we liked the Nordic Council so much here in scandinavia, that we have two of them!
(Yes. Really. In practice, they work as a single one but there really are two. Just one of those “European things”, I guess...)
A video series about each grouping would make for a great playlist on your channel. Might help you catch the interest of people studying the EU for the first time too.
Yes - more detailed video please! This is so facinating!
Just to add more in complexity: There's also the Craiova group, comprising Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia, and Greece. They are similar in scope as the Visegrad Group
4:05 "cosovo and montenegro"
*shows flags of UN and montenegro*
@petar petrovic ok serb
It's right tbh. UN forces are the one who controls Kosovo, not "kosovar" army
“cosovo”😂 Refrain from making an idiot of yourself😂
@@makotonagano-i7q in forces? How about The UN resolution 1244⁉️
Baltic "Group" you mean "Assembly".... By the way, "Nordic Council" and "Baltic Assembly" form "Nordic-Baltic Eight"
Great video! Geez! When is the test? I’ll have to watch it about 5 times - really complicated. Thanks so much from sunny California.
The diagram is also handy for figuring out the Eurovision voting blocs!
There's also the OSCE (Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe)
5:08 Why would anyone have to pay taxes in pounds? It should've been euros.
Please make a series out of this because it is pretty intresting
Please do additional videos on Benelux & CEFTA. Would be much appreciated.
I'd love to see a proper deep dive on all of this. One concern I have with simply having an episode for each grouping is, that it might be difficult to represent the complex interactions between two or more groups which shape European politics on so many matters. I'd love to see some content dedicated to that.
I'd love a series explaining all of these relations in depth.🙂
This is one of the best videos I've seen about Europe and our unions. Thank you so much!!!
The Benelux by many dutch is still seen as a core relationship, many feel that relations with Austria and the Nordic Countries should be strengthned.
where was this channel a month ago when i needed it for my economics exam :(
My girlfriend is a political scientist. She says you did a really good job explaining all of that in such a short video. But my head is still hurting.
You forgot the most inclusive of all European groupings - EBU, or, the Eurovision Song Contest!
People say the EU is the 4th reich, when it really just the HRE 2.0 judging by how complicated it is.
If it comes to complexity the EU does not really compare to HRE. Not only is it vastly more territory but also a lot simpler in regards of political alliances, laws, standards and customs.
The HRE was neither holy, roman, or an empire.
@SteinbrecherBack hold up, it's just an internet joke, you're reading way too much into it.
SteinbrecherBack its the internet, others enjoy such references, chill
@SteinbrecherBack Triggered by an XVIIIth century punchline, ouch.
Id absolutely *LOVE* this to be a full series! Please do so!
CGP Grey is the real deal!!!
This has changed somewhat since he made his. Also he's specifically told his fans he don't mind other people doing videos on the same topic as him.
@@DaDunge he can't prevent people from doing videos on the same topics. 😂 It's just it's more beneficial to be FIRST when covering a subject. At least when people will be searching for videos it would appear.
@@kiradotee He explicitly asked his fans to not write "You stole this from CGP Grey" on videos about the same subjects. His reasoning was, he wasn't first, there is always someone before you and he doesn't like when people do it to him so he doesn't want his fans to do it to others.
Despite being a huge Grey fan, I had completely forgotten he even did a video on this topic. Regardless any similarities are probably because both of us based the video on a similar diagram, one that neither of us created - en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Supranational_European_Bodies
@@TLDRnewsEU Yeah I think it was one of his first ones.
More Deatils! I would watch tentatively a series on each aspect of the EU you explained here. Thank You its very informative and useful information.
Very similar take and charts as CGP Grey's Video

That kid from school that's just fine in everything, has her own group but wanted to be part of the cool kids, whom happen to also be top students in the best class in school.
Her smarter twin is also part of the cool kids squad and she loves hanging out with them.
The cool kids don't mind her around but would never consider her as part of the squad.
And that's basically Estonia.
4:56 When you import for the EU but tax the products in pounds.
0:27 WRONG, you labeled the Eurozone as the EU here. Looks like that graphic is too overwhelming even to the people making a video explaining it lol
You forgot to mention eurovision which also includes Australia & New Zealand.
And Israel :)
Eurovision is (at least try to) not be political in any way so I think it would be wrong to have it on a list/map of political agreements and unions.
@@johanneskarlsson3859 eurovision is one of the most political events in a year lol.
@@ukilectric I said try...
This video certainly opened my eyes to some of the groups in Europe
Please make a video about the EU-MERCOSUR trade deal (this is my 6th petition)
Wow. This triggers my chart fetish real hard. Just how much time did it take you to arrange the flags in such a way that each group could be placed within a neat rectangle? Astounding.
When you discuss the groupings in the lightening round e.g Nordic group, please list the names, not just the flags.
wow that was surprisingly helpful, thanks 😀
The sheer burden of existing
Make this into a multi-episode series with a big finale where you put all the pieces together and recap.
I liked the Estonian cross flag :-) but great video plus the visuals are amazing!
please go deeper, amazing work!
thanks a lot

I hope you are not conflating Europe and the EU. As in the video, they are very different. I am sure we are all happily European.
@@iansheppard9736 Nope, I mean the EU.
@@d16d05 What of the Europe outside the EU? Surely that is just as much to be proud of?
@@iansheppard9736 I'm proud to be european and I think the European Union is a good futuristic project to support.

In a slide starting at 1:00, you've put Croatia outside of EU. Though later at 1:25 you've put it correctly inside EU
Making a single Venn Diagram to cover them all must have been a nightmare :)
Great video!
BeNeLux actually has it's own parliament. Like Belgium didn't have enough of those already ;-)
9:25 Actually, the Baltic states, including Estonia, are a part of the Nordic Council
I would like to get information about the institutions of THE EU European Commission Vs European Council Vs Council of Europe, ECJ, etc
the official EU websites has good and detailed info about the institutions
Let's get videos of all the sub groups too! Sub-region groups like the Benelux, Nordic council and such would be interesting.
8:00 They're actually sort of close to the centre of Europe. The east west centre is around Vilnius. Which means that in east western respect these countries are actually in close to the centre. That said they're slightly of to the south.
more details please. I am a student of the state university of law in Bucharest in Romania and this video explains some things more clearly and better than my college course. Thanks
As a Dane I will happily make Estonia an honorary Nordic country until they will one day be officially recognized. Welcome brothers and sisters!
Amazing video. Thank you!
Wait, you forgot the Eurasian Economic Group and Commonwealth of independent states.
Not exactly Europe, but would be interesting to watch a video about them too
many of the countries are not in Europe, but I can recommend watching spaghetti roads video
This surely deserves more videos. EuroMed, NATO, the southern summit, all those deserve a little attention too, in my opinion.
Before I even watch the whole thing, yes. A series on groupings would be perfect!!!
Personally I feel you should have added the 3 seas initiative
Estonia please don't feel bad. You'll be Nordic one day.
TLDR please do CEFTA
Would love to see the same graphic for African Union
Thank you for this one :D
The Craiova Group (Quadrilateral), Craiova Four, or C4 is a cooperation project of four European states - Romania, Bulgaria, Greece and Serbia.
Wow, what a rubbish group…the butthole of Europe😂
Really great video. I would love to here more about the sub groups! Thx for all your insights :-)
i feel like NATO would’ve been a good one to add
I don't see the value since it is not an European thing alone.
Very informative and well explained video. Please make a detailed video on EU-EFTA Relations.
As a Swede, let Estonia into the nordics.
As a Dane, I must agree, they have asked since they became independant, and still we say no. We even said that Scotland was welcome if they left the UK (jokingly I know, but still), that got to hurt, and considering that it was Danish and Swedish territory during most of the middelages, it is kind of mean ;)
As a, Finn I commed your request.
(Originally I used condemn in place of commend so I had to re-do this... but at least it should be fine now).
As an American, they need to change their flag to be a palette swap of the other Nordic country flags.
@@JoelJames2 That's why they cannot join. They first need to correct the flag!

Why do you have the GBP symbol as the currency for imports?
Now this, this is a great tldr video.
What about the Three Seas initiative? I believe it should've been covered even though it's fairly new.
Nordic Council and Baltic Assembly together are the Baltic-Nordic Eight which is a cooperation framework between the 8 nations
Please do a video on the Council of Europe!
Here's how I see it: there is Europe, with the EU as its core. Schengen is the core of the core. Then there is Benelux, which is the core of the core of the core, the most "Euro" of Europeans.

Hey, the more the merrier!
Because member have to all have the same standards, tariffs , agreements etc...
@Livestream Fail you do realize that tariff are the normal situation right ?
The UK without an agreement have tariffs for Canada and the US. Also, the EU does not have tariff with Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
Which creates the interesting situation where the EU is economically closer to Canada, Australia and New Zealand than the UK are.
