Applying a Hoof Poultice

Just a quick video showing how we apply a Poultice to a horses foot. Poultice are used to draw out any infection, pus or dirt from within the foot and works extremely well. Wet poulticing also helps to soften the foot, making it easier for an abscess to tract to the surface. Here we show you how quick and easy the process can be made, the key is preparation and having everything to hand. When my mare was lame after standing on a nail, we used nappies for the poultice, newborn size as she had very small feet, they worked really well!

Yes nappies are also great and we will occasionally use them. Do you use an alternative for the animalintex?

@@AlexRidgewayFarrier no we used the animalintex underneath the nappy! I've heard various things can make good poultices though such as manuka honey

May I ask how to treat with an Epson police gel? I don't have the sheet police as you do. Should I pack the hoof with the gel or place something in-between the hoof surface and the gel???
