Also, this wouldn't be the first time My Little Pony has made a reference through the background music. The guys who does the background music seems to like to make references every now and then, such as in the episode It's About Time, when Twilight sees her future self time travel to her, the background music sounds very similar to I Am The Doctor from Doctor Who, a show all about Time Travel, and pretty well known in the MLP fandom because of Doctor Whooves. Also another time when he's made a reference from music is in the episode The Return of Harmony - Part 2, where there is a scene that obviously is meant to parody the throne room scene from Star Wars: A New Hope, and the background music sounds very "star warsy", and similar to John Williams music. Also in Wonderbolts academy, there is a tune that plays a few times that sounds very similar to a tune from Pokémon.
William Anderson is the guy who made all those background musical pieces! He used to be in Weird Al's band, and was a help in getting Al on the show. How Has No one Seen that Due to The character Sneaking around, The director Decided to Use An Original Background Music Sheet That resembles The Mission Impossible Theme, The Songs are A Lot more Similar to The extra Notes In the Other song. It's just a coincidence that 2 or 3 notes are similar
I think there's way to many factors in here to just say it's a coincidence. I do think that he was trying to resemble the mission impossible music, as Rainbow Dash was being sneaky like a spy, but I also think it was a reference to Rainbow Factory too. This is going to be along read, so if you don't want to read it all, you don't have to. I think I might use this comment I'm writing as the script to make a follow up video to this video to better explain how the song can't just be a coincidence. And why? Well, for one, what are the chances of out of all the 221 episodes of G4, that the episode that just happens to sound similar to Rainbow Factory is played in a scene where Rainbow Dash (the main villain in the fan fiction!) is entering the weather factory, where the rainbow factory is! Like, if it was just a coincidence, this song could have been played in any episode in any scene, but it just so happens to be played in one of two times the show is basically at the rainbow factory! If it is just a coincidence, then that is one crazy coincidence! Also, there's a lot more to this. I have been playing the piano for over 10 years and I have made and worked on probably over 100 songs, and I know a lot about music theory and what it takes to make a song. In music, there are 12 main key signatures to choose from (if you only count the major keys, which most songs are played in). And the background music just happens to also be in the exact same key as the rainbow factory song! So not only did the song just happen to be in an episode out of 221 episodes where it's basically in the rainbow factory: Chances 2/221 (Also including Sonic Rainboom) But it also happened to be in the exact same key as the rainbow factory song! 1/12 (for 12 of the main major key signatures) But wait, there's more! Sure it's in the same key signature, and it just so happens to be played in a episode and scene where the show is by the rainbow factory, but a lot of songs are in the same key signature and sound completely different. But this background music song sounds very similar to the rainbow factory song! What are the chances of that? I have no idea. It's gotta be really low since there's thousands, if not, millions of songs out there that all share the same key signature but sound completely different. There's millions of ways to make a song, and it just so happens that this song sounds similar to Rainbow Factory. And how? Well both songs use almost the exact same melody in the chord #Fm starting on the note F# and then going to A, then to G# as a passing not, then back to F#. If you don't know music, you probably have no idea what I just said, but if you watch the video again, it might make more sense. Not only do both songs use almost the exact same melody, but also the exact same chords! Both use the chord F#m as the starting one, and then also use the B major chord (as in the second verse of the Rainbow Factory song), but the background music also starts the song in almost the exact same melody the Rainbow Factory song starts, using almost the exact same melody. Sorry that this is so long. It's hard to know what emotion people are feeling through words online, but please know that I'm not trying to win an argument or anything, but I just think this reference is so cool and I want other people to know that it's true too, but not from hate or anything negative. I hope you didn't feel judged or felt like I was angry or something. It's hard to tell what emotions people are trying to convey online through text messages or TH-cam comments (I already said that, didn't I?) But anyway, these are a lot of coincidences, so many big ones that it's easier to believe that it was intentional rather than not. I mean, again, I have made a lot of songs in my time, and if in charge of making background music for this scene in this episode, and I wanted to make the music a rainbow factory reference while I had the chance, I would do something like the composer did. Use a similar opening melody, with some of the chords from the song, in a different beat to change it up and not be an exact copy, to not get a copyright strike or anything, but still being close enough to be noticeable by fans. What if the guy was planning to make the background music for this scene a Rainbow Factory reference, but then his manger said "make it like spy music". Then the composer might have felt bummed out. He wanted to make it a Rainbow Factory reference, but the higher ups had other ideas. But then he got an idea. "I'll just do both! Reference Mission Impossible and the Rainbow Factory!" Again, sorry for this long comment. I think I will just make this comment into another video as a followup to this one, just so more people know how crazy it is that there's an actually Rainbow Factory reference in the show! I hope you didn't feel like you were forced to read all this if you didn't want to.
Something else you can also point out is that rainbow factory was published in 2011, the song in 2014, and the episode you've shown here was written in 2015. That is quite interesting
Yeah, I didn't point it out because I thought it was just common knowledge. I remember noticing this referencing when I first saw this episode air live on Discovery Family that Saturday morning. I didn't think I'd need to mention it since a quick 5 second TH-cam and Google search will show that this song came out way before the episode. But after making this video, I was surprised that a lot of people thought that the song came after. I mean, just a quick TH-cam search will show people when it came out, but for some reason, people just don't look it up. I guess I just forget that not everyone joined the fandom as early as me, so I guess they're not familiar with the timelines of this.
Another W from MLP. Seriously sometimes it feels like the FIM team was the only people who ruly and truly cared about their fans and their fans interests. At least in this era of the show. That new show "Bluey" is also kind of like that but it's not as much as FIM did.
I always loved how the Rainbow Factory machinery in the music video is literally just csr parts that have been superimposed on the flash animations lmao.
That is kinda cool of it's an easter egg to the fandom, nobody seems to talka about it- but Screwball from daughter of discord, appeared in one of the episodes once.
I always found it so funny whenever the show would cater and bend to the fanbase, like the episode where all the ponies got to live out their dreams and it was actually just the fanbase's headcanons.
It's honestly cool when official companies pay homage to their fanbase as like a "Yeah. We see what you guys have made~" Slightly off-topic, but in similarity: it's like when the FNAF movie came out, they played Living Tombstone's fansong in the credits.
I thought it might be an exaggeration since it's obviously meant to be mission impossible But then I noticed the delays in each beat, it's slower than it should be and does sound like the beat used in Rainbow Factory
yea it is because I watched this episode I realized the rainbow factory background music too. I didn't realize about it like past few years because I forgot about this fan fiction but goodness is real. but no one really knows about the background music it sounds like a mission impossible kind of thing so maybe no one knows about it
I know this is an old video, but the music is meant to be a take on the Mission Impossible theme. The show staff were essentially forbidden to make any direct references to fan content, so there wouldn't have been any references to "Rainbow Factory" in the episode.
This and how the pegasi closed up the sky in the series finally in reference to Fallout Equestria. I wonder how many other references they made to fan works.
Like tbh, it could've been or it could be a accident. (But then there's a case they sampled a bit of it because it fit the tone they were trying to set.) We don't really know, or at least I don't. Lol.
I was always just thrown off enough to think its following the standard, spy movie infiltration beat. But, like with all things, even with how close all the beats would be together, this is the only time they used that beat for this instance so, it's likely.
I think someone in the music production was like "Oh, they tell me to do a music reference to Mission Impossible... But this melody... Nah, why not." And ended more like the keys of Rainbow Factory
It sounds kinda like the mission impossible theme but just slowed down cuz of Tank slowing down for winter. Not saying it isn't rainbow factory it just sounds similar to both ig.
As much as i love thinking about it...actually there are more simmilar bits not corelated...like some music reminding doom or something like that Here we got just couple notes...And thats verry Brave saying that it's rainbow factory refference basing just on those facts I mean i know that there are mgs refferences even time paradox ones, Rick and Morty Chameo...But that ones don't leave any doubts...here is situation like it can be...but it musn't

So not only did the song just happen to be in an episode out of 221 episodes where it's basically in the rainbow factory:
Chances 2/221 (Also including Sonic Rainboom)
But it also happened to be in the exact same key as the rainbow factory song!
1/12 (for 12 of the main major key signatures)
But wait, there's more!
It's hard to tell what emotions people are trying to convey online through text messages or TH-cam comments (I already said that, didn't I?)
But anyway, these are a lot of coincidences, so many big ones that it's easier to believe that it was intentional rather than not. Reference Mission Impossible and the Rainbow Factory!"
Again, sorry for this long comment. I think I will just make this comment into another video as a followup to this one, just so more people know how crazy it is that there's an actually Rainbow Factory reference in the show! I hope you didn't feel like you were forced to read all this if you didn't want to.
@@UltraSonicRainboomit still aint canon , just a reference. and in your video you said it was canon. which is misinformation
@@LunacyFringe and you my friend are what pinkie pie would call a "party pooper"
@@LunacyFringe rainbow factory take place in the future
I guess I just forget that not everyone joined the fandom as early as me, so I guess they're not familiar with the timelines of this.
the background like almost every 4 notes are literally this song thats crazy when u played it back to back at the end xD
Another W from MLP. Seriously sometimes it feels like the FIM team was the only people who ruly and truly cared about their fans and their fans interests. At least in this era of the show.
That new show "Bluey" is also kind of like that but it's not as much as FIM did.
My little pony knows their audience very well...
Its so cool when they made subtle references
I KNEW THAT SOUNDED LIKE RAINBOW FACTORY
it's a reference to the sneaking spy theme and Rainbow factory was made way after the ep
@@Minecraft_Animatior People are saying before the episode in comments i saw.
Minty: Where do rainbows come from?
Rainbow Dash: I'll explain it to you, dear. They are made, well...somewhere. I imagine it's not here.
-- G3
And thats how MLP creepypastas started
OH MY GOD. ALL THESE YEARS. ALL THESE YEARS.
Never thought that Rainbow Dash would react to this.
Did you also notice the grey pony? 0:07
That proved the rainbow factory is canon!
Is that grey pony in the music video or fanfic?
Now imagine if they had made a Cupcakes reference if the show had continued... Unless they did do a Cupcakes reference and we missed it.🤔
Did you guys know about the Cupcake reference too?
The episode where Pinkie gets depressed because the mane6 stopper from playing the Yak instrument
There are 2 others actually!!
Pinkie pie makes a RD themed cupcake in one episode, and Party of one is designated to her losing her mind
@@_-NatureMations-_ Those episodes messed with my head XD I was like, omg the creepypasta! its becoming real! RUN!!!!! XD
I really think mlp is an awesome example of how much fun it can be when showrunners actually engage with their audience
i can't believe this was right under our noses, I LOVE HOW THEY ADDED IT
it's a reference to the sneaking spy theme
@@Minecraft_Animatior from mission impossible? i think so too but maybe its for both
It's also found at 08:48 in Scare Master from season 5, alongside Rainbow Dash again.
I always loved how the Rainbow Factory machinery in the music video is literally just csr parts that have been superimposed on the flash animations lmao.
I could be wrong, but as far as I’m aware Rainbow Factory came out in 2016 and that episode aired in April 2015.
The song came out in 2012.
THAT WAS RAINBOW FACTORY!? 🌈 🏭
That is kinda cool of it's an easter egg to the fandom, nobody seems to talka about it- but Screwball from daughter of discord, appeared in one of the episodes once.
screwball appeared in the show before they wrote a fanfic about her. she wasn’t a reference.
I always found it so funny whenever the show would cater and bend to the fanbase, like the episode where all the ponies got to live out their dreams and it was actually just the fanbase's headcanons.
It's honestly cool when official companies pay homage to their fanbase as like a "Yeah. We see what you guys have made~"
Slightly off-topic, but in similarity: it's like when the FNAF movie came out, they played Living Tombstone's fansong in the credits.
The FNAF movie was another great example when a company and form of media knew their fanbase well!
I thought it might be an exaggeration since it's obviously meant to be mission impossible
But then I noticed the delays in each beat, it's slower than it should be and does sound like the beat used in Rainbow Factory
That's awesome! That makes me wonder if they did that on purpose.
yea it is because I watched this episode I realized the rainbow factory background music too. I didn't realize about it like past few years because I forgot about this fan fiction but goodness is real. but no one really knows about the background music it sounds like a mission impossible kind of thing so maybe no one knows about it
I actually love this idea, because in past episodes we have seen that in the background we can see fan characters so..
I know this is an old video, but the music is meant to be a take on the Mission Impossible theme. The show staff were essentially forbidden to make any direct references to fan content, so there wouldn't have been any references to "Rainbow Factory" in the episode.
Rainbow dash: oh no! This sounds like
*rainbow factory music plays*
"Hasbro only want to sell toys!"
Also Hasbro:
it was clearly just spy music
If rainbow factory is cannon, then that means pinkie pie drank other ponies in a season 1 or 2 episode
Call me skeptical but I still think it's just a classic mission impossible inspired shorthand for stealth moments in film and tv
The beginning sounded more like rf but the emd started sounding like mission impossible more
Faust: yeah its canon
HOWEVER it was shutdown long ago
It's easy to judge that floating city
I can't unhear it now thanks TwT
2:08 has been for years
By the Gods!!! Your right!!! You deserve something for this man!!! Fombs up👍
There'd also a direct reference during the finale for Season 8, lightning and all.
This is so cool, never noticed it before
I NEVER noticed this before… that’s both hilarious and horrifying. XD
Nice touch adding the piano segment
man youre gonna get me into mlp again...welp there i go, off the binge, wish me luck. (im gonna hyperfixate on this aren't i?)
Lol.
Like it depends at this point.
It most definitely is intentional
@@aquaponieee Which is awesome!
Nah, why not." And ended more like the keys of Rainbow Factory
that's lowkey haunting
Imagine if they made an adult show of mlp horror stories like rainbow factory
Tanks for the Memories - April 25, 2015, WoodenToaster - Rainbow Factory 14 August 2011 OMG
It sounds kinda like the mission impossible theme but just slowed down cuz of Tank slowing down for winter. Not saying it isn't rainbow factory it just sounds similar to both ig.
The factory is real yes let’s watch it rain blood as ponies die and screams are heard
I'm rewatching the episode on tv now and I hear it!
That's just Mission Impossible
brain devolves into mushroom
As much as i love thinking about it...actually there are more simmilar bits not corelated...like some music reminding doom or something like that
Here we got just couple notes...And thats verry Brave saying that it's rainbow factory refference basing just on those facts
I mean i know that there are mgs refferences even time paradox ones, Rick and Morty Chameo...But that ones don't leave any doubts...here is situation like it can be...but it musn't
Pretty sure it's a reference to the sneaking spy theme
