Info for everyone that suggests the Sethbling challenge: ilmango, Oreolamp and I tried around a bit and we came to the same conclusion than all the others, the space is to small to get creative, the only real way is to add a item-despawn-clock as the base clock and add as many counters behind. Its super boring, you cant really come up with creative solutions
Excuse me if I'm wrong and missing something, but that was not the longest clock by far in the video he put out showcasing it. It did not utilize an item despawn clock. I do however feel that what he showed might be the limit, and that there is not really room to improve it.
Did those solutions beat 5,000 days? I saw a design on twitter that definitely didn't use a despawn clock as the initial clock, it went past 5,000 days.
The creativity comes when you want to be better than the others. The record is is already 48 years and its realy hard to imporve on it. You would have to innovate and understand many redstone mechanics. Thats something I call the polar opposite of boring and non creative. I remember back when the piston doors began popping up. Basically 1-2 designs were around for ages and nobody thought about improving them. Thats very similar to the 5x5 clock challenge. In both cases there are already perfectly good solutions and nobody readly has a nead to improve on it. But (i think it was) Nico and others came out of nowhere and created insane piston doors. Months of weakly videos with ever better, smaller and faster design. They took something realy "boring" and innovated on it.
@@NabekenProG87 the thing is: all creative solutions are prohibited by the rules, you cant get creative if you are limited. Getting a Design for ~50 years is simple but uncreative, getting a design for multiple hundred years is not possible (you would need resettable multipliers) due to limited space, thats why we abandoned the challenge. Building a 3x3 piston door has so many possibilities of powering and delaying tasks. A limited 1 high space is simply boring if you know all the solutions from the beginning and there is not much to improve.
I'm sure if ilmango wanted to play on hermitcraft he'd be more than welcome but I can't see ilmango doing anything of the sort. He's a pretty purely technical Minecrafter I can't see him doing anything as ridiculous as building a house
Fix for 1.19.4 the first 4 blocks he places ( with the rails on top) you want the rails to be on any block, while the other 2 are redstone blocks(the ones under the slime blocks) side view would look like this: [rail] [slime] [block] [redstone block] hope this helps anyone!
Maybe my last comment got deleted due to linking a video, but the fix for me was to place the redstone blocks under the rails for the north and west directions, not under the slimes. For south and east versions no changes were needed. Following what wollo said, while very helpful for finding the fix, didn't work. Edit: This is for 1.20.1 though. Didn't test on 1.19.4

I've been thinking about your zero-tick instant cactus and chorus farms recently and it dawned on me that sugarcane and mushrooms grow similarly to these other crops (not giant mushrooms but the normal ones which "spread" over time). I think it would be worth your time to investigate the effects of zero-ticking these crops and seeing if you can't make similar ultra-efficient farms with it. Would make for a great video. Since mushrooms don't grow on top of each other like cactus, sugarcane, and chorus, if zero-ticking _does_ work would it need to be the block under the source mushroom, the adjacent blocks the new mushroom would grow on, or both that it would need to be applied to? Sorry this comment really wasn't relevant to this video but I figured I would have more luck catching your attention here rather than your new cactus farm video.
trust me when i say trivial stuff like that gets tested right after some discovery gets made. there is just no need to make a video saying what doesnt work :D To answer your question: 0ticking only works on chorus fruit and cactus sadly
I am having the same problem as well. Its only the configuration with the restone block that doesn't seem to work. I tried firing the front pistons manually in the sequence that was produced by the original machine and it still doesn't work. Minecraft 1.16 had a bunch of changes to redstone though so I'm not really surprised. @ilmango will find out at some point though once SciCraft eventually moves to 1.16. In the meantime, I guess we need to start hunting for a solution...

You could try sticking a minecart on the rails that are already on the front. I'm not sure how well it would work though considering that each arm moves two blocks every other engine cycle.
He's already on the SciCraft server. Hermitcraft is for casuals (no offense to the hermits, but most of them can't keep up and a few of them should move on)

Scicraft uses instant dropper lines for their long range item transport ( look at their witch farms ), so take that as you will.

1,5 blocktall Trapdoor tunnel with ice floor while jumping.
It worked for me but I had to take out the blocks near the last observer and put one block in his face to activate it.
last optimization, made the machine fit in a 3x3 tunnel....
