Strongly agree with these techniques , have accessed them for 50 years from many different sources , mostly eastern philosophy's. They both work . 1. centres you in the present 2. helps maintain mindfulness in the present ( both in the eternal now ). The second can\will calm the body to 3-4 or less respiration cycles per minute , but do not force it , stay alert . Your heartbeat and blood pressure will drop ( I've done less than 3 cycles in calm alertness for extended periods , 30+ minutes ) . I make no claims to being a Knight or anything else than a seeker .

There are so many trolling comments but this is brilliant actually. This is the same way mystic yogics ( not zamba dancing type of yoga, which does yoga with tight pants and on weekends ) use their breath. Normal human being inhale and exhale between 14-16 times per minute and this will bring that down to 10-7. Those who done it right, will realize something phenomenal happening within them. Again brilliant video..
Here is a another tip. Breath on your tummy. This will make you peaceful within. Look at a baby. They always breath on their stomach. Not the chest.

I taught the full cycle breathing to my karate students for over 40 years. When the Japanese army was recruiting they failed many men because their chest expansion wasn’t up to standard. It took them a while to realise that this was due to “stomach” breathing.
One important thing is missing here: generally one should breathe in through the nose and out through the mouth. More air can be taken in through the nose.

That type of breathing is also an excellent aid to invisibility. The four levels of invisibility are not being seen, not being noticed even if you are seen, not being regarded even if you are noticed, and not being remembered. As a rule of thumb, if you can hear your own heartbeat, the enemy can hear your breathing; so you need to regulate your breathing to get your heart rate (and breathing noise) down. The breathing technique you described is the only way I know to do that.

Dude, you don't have to make a issue out of it. I myself was doing yoga for a really long time. But you have to admit that people have to right to get inspired by something and make another thing out of it that's more compatible to them and yoga's ultimate aim is to unite wheather they call it yoga or not. Yoga belongs to the whole world. "Vasudhaiva kutumbakam" (the world is a family).

When breathing through the mouth, the chest breathing or inflation is just about guaranteed. If I instead breathe through my nose, ignoring as much as possible my deviated septum, my breathing becomes slower and deeper -- the diaphragm fills the lungs fully. Of course it takes practice and determination (and even some night time tape on the lips) to habituate oneself to this 24/7, or close to it. As I am better able to tolerate a higher blood level of CO2, especially during exercise, my oxygen levels also rise.
