Hi, if you want to fast forward for rinse and repeat, what works for me is after say working on 2 cylinders and jump to the last cylinder with a quick scramble “fast forward” sound. I don’t think we need a music fill in. Still great content. Thank you.
Excellent video as always. I too am obsessed with Streten's channel. Like you say, world class attention to detail. Can you believe no former experience! Background is IT. 'Cooooming up' 😂
Mate love your enthusiasm in chatting to your camraman, and attention to detail while building the head ... cant make any mistakes with engins like that , so your methodically layout of your parts you got to use for each head ,IS IE spot on or not on ... really ljke to have a few days being around chatting and watching put a engin to gether ... brilliant... keep it going ...
Jesus 1 hour video I’ve stopped after a minute and ordered a Chinese Buzzing back soon I’ve actually gone back to like 1 year old vids Master tech knowledge shared to the masses Thank you
Used to work in a main dealer years ago and the official ruining in program for demonstrators was gentle for 100 miles ...then stand on it!! - never saw any issues related this practice and these became quickest/smoothest running cars sold.
Keep up the banter Ricky keen people pickup on the gems of knowledge you're dropping. The mention of the BMW channel for example- looks like I have a hundred or so episodes to go through now!
Came over to your channel on advice from Lee @ Barum Engines and can only say I am blown away, will be an avid follower from now on, Have a gud day dude.
Colab with Ivan Dutton of Shed Racing 👍 Ian Tyrell would be another good one. M539 is a great channel 😃 Ivan has always advocated assembling pistons into cylinders dry, no lube.
For the collets i normally use 2 tiny snap on screwdrivers and a demagnetizer, especially on motorcycles engines where they are really small work perfect
I'm amazed Rick had a spot off bother fitting collets I fitted a set useing a valve spring compressor I bought at a car boot sale and a small flat head screwdriver in around ten seconds I had no idea I am a collet fitting God 😂
Amazing to think after decades and decades of engine development that valve springs are still held on by the trusty collet , you don't lube them to aid assembly ? or lube under the caps and seats ?
Just a little tip, many of these high end engines actually just use the elring valve stem seals from the 16v Golf GTi. They cost pennies compared to the exact same item in the o/e bag for much more £££
Great video, loving all these build series! Are you able to elaborate on the running in procedure? Intrigued as to how you can get away with not following the conventional ring bedding in / not letting the engine idle etc. Is this specific to these engines / rings?
I don’t know what you mean by conventional? This is how you run in rings on alusil bores, old iron blocks were different and that was more due to the camshafts over the bores….
@@REPerformanceUK what about that rs3 with cast iron liners? Would you have done a different run in procedure? People talk about needing to generate strong cylinder pressure to get the rings to properly bite - guess that's not the case with alusil?
Very interesting video, but I have a question: Could you fit the valve seals AFTER fitting the valves? That way you avoid pushing the seal and valve seat off. Nick
There's only one choice of music to play over a piece of time-lapse footage - Left Bank Two by The Noveltones. If you're of a certain age, you'll recognise it instantly and happily be transported back to your childhood. Slipknot should do a cover version.
I have an S2 Avant that's going to be up for sale soon if you're interested Its a '93 in white that was one of the three UK press cars Also, really like the videos, nice to see the detail and how everyone can still make mistakes😂
A Skoda Octavia VRS bus, you did the 227mph on the mk2 (a la background poster) so using a mk3 see what you can do with that...? Not sexy though... Sooo RS6?
No 7k miles about 10km, because finishing the race is more important than the cost. So we life components and change them before they can fail. The cost of winning mate!
I love these videos but the constant roaming around and panning combined with the focus auto-adjusting all over the place is proper grim :( constructive feedback and all that. I get that the movement is pragmatic, but a bit of an edit would do wonders to chop out the "i'm gonna swing around here for a sec" motions.
@@REPerformanceUK That's really cool. I was thinking maybe you'd done some Audi work for Downey Jr and he signed a pic for you. The family tie is a better story!
Get Matt Armstrong round to build it for you!! If you ask me it's all that stupid banter you are always doing now, it spoils the videos. I can only stand a couple of minutes of it then I move on.....
M539 Restorations is awesome! As are you 😋, great build vid!
Quality as always, Lube is the Key Gentlemen 😂😂

totally agree.....one of my favourite channels...as well as REP.

Again amazing attention to detail. Brilliance personified
Sreten at M539 is brilliant and so funny . Both you guys and him do make enjoyable viewing.
A little grease on the inside face of the collet helps with the stiction against magnetised tools as well.
BMW E34 Tourer for me, gorgeous and practicooool. Superb cars.

Gotta say doing collets especially that many still comes in second to a prostate exam off an elephant. Respect to your levels of patience 🙏
Love to see a toolbox tour video with each of your techs boxes!

I agree sreten has fantastic videos
Edit: how about a e60 M5 V10? Engine tear down and bearing change.
Always fascinating, especially the discussion on running in.
Used to work in a main dealer years ago and the official ruining in program for demonstrators was gentle for 100 miles ...then stand on it!! - never saw any issues related this practice and these became quickest/smoothest running cars sold.
Great video.. you have some patients, i was pulling my hair out trying to get 2 ball bearings and a spring seated in a shaft on a race boat crash box…

Hi Ricky, great videos, interesting cars, great technical content and great banter 😄
Thanks so much. Glad you are enjoying the videos 👍🏼
Your knowledge of these engines is a credit to you. 👍. If I needed my lambo working on I would come to you ,well done .
Came over to your channel on advice from Lee @ Barum Engines and can only say I am blown away, will be an avid follower from now on, Have a gud day dude.
Thanks and welcome.
Hi Ricky, Again thanks for sharing the rebuild of the head. 👍👍
Always awesome content Ricky

Be awesome to see a vr6 mk4 golf get some love
I have surplus unused surgical tools for these sort of jobs Ricky, they're cheap, well made and stainless so no magnetism issues
Excellent video as per usual 👌🏼 Man's got some balls colleting a head with safety glasses on 😂😂 nearly blinded myself a few times
Screwdriver and a bit of grease always been my favourite.. bit more of a pain with my big g clamp spring compressor though!
Fascinating video. More, please…
Safety specs on dear boy in case those springs ping!
Far better without the tunes.
Assembly lube or grease for the collets was always my preferred choice with multiple valve heads
What you need for them collets is a child with small fingers! It was always my job watching my dad rebuild Old Ford heads when I was a nipper
Do a S2… awesome cars, either Avant or coupe… internet (and me) love them 👍
Benny Hill theme...the ORIGINAL time lapse music!
(It's been my ringtone for 30 years) 😆
I'm amazed Rick had a spot off bother fitting collets I fitted a set useing a valve spring compressor I bought at a car boot sale and a small flat head screwdriver in around ten seconds I had no idea I am a collet fitting God 😂
Great taste David! I've an E39 M5
You're never late with a Vee Eight
Great vid again….. was just thinking Ricks laid it all out so he doesn’t forget the spring seats 😂😂….. yes I’ve done it too…..
Oopsy 😂😂 great content Ricky.
Thank you 😊

Is castle Coombe open to public on event days ? Love to watch your supercar day but unfortunately haven't got one :)😊😊

Is this not a similar story when looking at rs6 vs a6 all road running gear ?
Meticulous as ever, which is why I love this channel. A team with pride in their work. Excellent upload Ricky.
Thank you so much for watching. Glad you enjoyed it
Yakety sax by Boots Randolph would be a perfect tune for time-lapse.
Great video, loving all these build series!
Are you able to elaborate on the running in procedure? Intrigued as to how you can get away with not following the conventional ring bedding in / not letting the engine idle etc. Is this specific to these engines / rings?
Agree, very different to all other run in procedures I've researched on. Please show us how the engine dyno running in / tuning works too!
I don’t know what you mean by conventional?
This is how you run in rings on alusil bores, old iron blocks were different and that was more due to the camshafts over the bores….

@@thimira92 Yes we would use a slightly different approach with the RS3 as the cylinder wall surface is much harder.
Grate work top video 👌

Wow, wow, wow, and we all learn so much! Fank you :)
Hi Rick just a quick question did you get the retainer out that you dropped?
Really enjoyed watching
All the best
Ashley
Is lapping of valves more used for when your re-using valves or for less precision engines?

More SlipKnot please fersure
Hey where can I order the valve spring tool and will it work for a BXA head ???????????? The tool that’s bold to the head not the bench tool
Do a time lapse like Lucky Costa, speed it up so it sounds like you're talking on helium. 😁
Do a 'Layer Cake' RS6 for sure 👍🏻
I have an S2 Avant that's going to be up for sale soon if you're interested

@@REPerformanceUK I tried to drop my email here but I think it was removed so I have emailed you from your website
Don’t tell us you forgot the ORings.
Do an engine build comparison with Steve Morris on the yank stuff
How about putting a couple cupholders on the column? Put the locks in one cup and the lube in the other.
If you just change rods on an engine does it need running in still?
How do you run in your engines?

Corrodo r32 turbo would be a Cool car or a Turbo 5 pot 944 would be pretty special!!
G60 Corrado! 😉

May have made a mistake, but systems are there for a reason, which is why you caught it!🤔👌
You could do a collaboration with Dylan Mulvany. Seems to be popular guy at the mo.
How about turboing a mk5 R32
B7 RS4 with a manual gearbox.
Why the problem with McLaren parts, will they not supply them ?
Did I get that right only 7k for another refresh , why so low longevity

What's the story of the Iron Man picture against the wall?
My wife’s cousin painted it for me. He’s done a couple of R8 ones for clients as well. Chris_Clarke_art is his handle on Instagram and Facebook.
