  • In this video we try Black Forest Cake. No better place to try it than in the Black Forest. We stop at a restaurant after our hike in Triberg and sample this delicacy. This is the first time Maria's parents have ever tried this cake. We have tried it once before but last time the cake we were not impressed. Will this cake beat our expectations? Watch to find out.

Hello from Texas. Friend from Ernie Hatmaker's shout out. I bet its delicious. I love the cream cheese icing. Many blessings.

The Black Forest cake always steals the show from the much better Austrian version, the Donauwelle.

I haven't tried that yet. Next time I see it I will definitely try it. Thanks for watching!

Well... We call the so called "Black Forrest Cake", a tart. And the Donauwelle is, what we call a sheet cake. So we are talkin' about apples and oranges. But in fact, the Donauwelle is very yummy...!

Lucas, I'm German and totally agree with you: In most Black Forest Gateaus is too much alcohol for my taste, too.

@@trailblazinpeppers Cake / gateau / pastries aren't seen as desert here, mind you. "Kaffee und Kuchen" has its own time in the afternoon. But to answer your question: My favorite desert would be "Crème Bavaroise" (look it up!) and for cake "Agnes Bernauer Torte", a gateau made from several layers of crunchy Almond meringue with coffee buttercream in between.

Try some frozen cakes... By Coppenrath & Wiese--- For example Benjamin Blümchen Torte... It´s for kids and very famous...

Hello all 6 of you. "Donauwelle" is also a cherry cake, you have to try it too. In the place where I grew up (you were there) there are orchards. On the way back from school, we would stop and always steal some cherries. Good memories.😂

Oh oh, noch so ein alter Mundräuber 😉
There is nothing more fresh and delicious than directly from the tree into your mouth. 😋

@@Opa_Andre Exactly Andre. And the little thrill to go with it. Never overdid it. They stole my brother's friend's entire grape harvest overnight! 🤢

One thing we have noticed living here is that there are more fruit trees. We love to go on walks in our neighborhood and countryside and being able to pick an apple or pear on our walk is so nice! Thanks for watching!

@@trailblazinpeppers By law, the fruits on a tree in Germany belong to the respective owner of that tree. As long as they are on a public road / avenue, however, it is usually no problem to pick a handful and take it as a snack along the way. If you want to collect more, or if they are on private ground, you have to ask the owner beforehand. In some German states you may see trees that have a yellow ribbon wrapped around the tree trunk. Such ribbon around a fruit tree is a sign that the fruits can be picked from it freely and without question. Anyone who owns a fruit tree or an orchard who doesn’t have the time to pick the fruits can mark the trees, giving a sign to others that they are able to do so themselves. The aim is to leave as little fruit unpicked as possible, which would otherwise just rot.

Maybe you should do an episode about the difference between German and American opticians and glasses.
In Germany, anti-reflective lenses are standard. Which are much better in videos, because they don't have this mirror effect, we can see in the video.
It's not a criticism, it's a serious suggestion. No expat has yet made a video about this difference, which I've noticed several times. Also, how badly the glasses are adjusted to the ears of Americans, you can see that again and again even in TV series.
It's good that Fielmann is currently pushing into the American market.

That is interesting. I never thought of that. I wonder if with the increase in online shopping for glasses if that explains why the glasses may not appear to fit properly. People may buy the glasses online themselves but may not have been properly fitted or adjusted. Do people in Germany ever buy glasses online or is that unheard of?

The original Black Forest cake was flavored with kirsch, a fruit brandy.
Today, in times when one has to consider the sensitivities of Muslims, this ingredient is forbidden, but it also distorts the taste.

Is not correct, alcohol is not prohibited, it only needs to be marked, because of Child Protection Act
