As a young mom who wasn’t taught much about cooking, I am very grateful for your channel. I make your burger buns and pickled onions weekly. We just had a ton of people over and they all raved about both those things. I really appreciate the poor man meals. We are always looking for ways to feed our family for less while still keeping it nutritious. Thank you Sarah! God bless you
I really like the idea of cooking the burger patties in the oven. Less grease spatter on the stove top, Yay! This is now in my mental notes, thank you! 😊
That’s how I cook every type of meat! Sausages, burgers, bacon etc etc. Less fat content and also less thinking involved because you literally just pop it into the oven and forget about it 😊
I love these kinds of videos!! Please do not cater to the voices that say this is unobtainable or unrealistic. $20 for 7 people with 2 meals left over!! That’s $1.60 a plate US prices. And it looks nutritious and tasty! Just like people are trying to shame the ballerina farms mother of 6. Let these women live their lives and make beautiful videos. If you don’t appreciate these kinds of videos, you don’t need to watch them, shocking concept I know😂. Also, with the $15CAN burgers she said it gave them all leftovers the next day! That’s $.50 a person US. Even if you’re poor, you gotta admit, that’s pretty good
I don’t understand why everyone’s in an uproar about the $20 meal. Dude there are ways to find the fish in an affordable way but you have to look around at where you’re shopping and look for markdowns. Also she fed 7 people for TWO meals. Which means $1.43 per plate. In what world is that not a “poor man’s” meal. And everyone complaining about not having time to do the bread yourself because you work full time that’s fine then making bread isn’t for you (although more realistically you don’t have time to LEARN to bake bread). She’s a SAHM your lives are different. She’s not shaming you for not being the same as her, you’re doing that to yourself. If you don’t have time to make your bread from scratch, then don’t, find a store where you can get your bread option for free. But expecting a true “poor man’s” meal and then complaining about making bread from scratch is kinda silly. Our great grandparents made their bread when it became too expensive so pick your poison. Time is money and when it comes to the bread either make it yourself or pay for it but don’t complain about both, you don’t get magic bread that just appears on your counter
Amen! Say it louder for the people in the back… you are 100% correct. We are all in different seasons of life. She is sharing what is affordable and doable for her large family. What works for your family will probably look different… and that’s ok. You can take advice or tips from each of these meals to make a more affordable and healthy meal option for your own family.
People act like she's saying people HAVE to do things exactly like she does, when she is literally just sharing her life. Also people need to keep in mind this is all REAL FOOD not 25 cent ramen noodles, so $2/person with actual high quality food is SUPER cheap.
Making bread from scratch isn't that hard either. It's literally 5 minutes of hands on time with 3 hours of rising and 30 minutes to bake. I make break with my 3 year old all the time, he measures out the flour on a scale. If he can do it I'm not sure how a working adult can't unless they have some kind of disability.
Absolutely love the idea of doing my burger pattie’s that way. I definitely need to have a go at making flat breads too. I think it’s amazing what you are making for $20-30 for a family of 7! I know people are struggling but as a mum who works full time I’m still able to make things for my family from scratch, I make most of my bread products and do baked goods too
I cook my family's Great Depression meal (at least 2x per week) which is roasted potatoes mixed with scrambled eggs and ground beef. Sometimes I replace the ground beef with sausages. It tastes so good.
I love this "poor man meals" segment, really useful ideas for the ones that want to save some money and also are short of ideas for stuff to cook, like me:) thank you for these videos, I am obsessed! You inspired me to cook my meals from scratch and I love it.

I enjoy how the way you cook takes into account the home economy and you use the leftovers as additional meals. This makes a huge difference in food cost, especially when something like the $25 meal lasts for 3 meals instead of one, for *7* people!
I’m cracking up at how many people can get so offended and so mad at the simplest things. Like, you made a $20 meal for a family of seven and people are losing their mind. But you go out and eat, and a family is seven would probably be close to $100. Your videos are amazing and maybe not everyone’s cuppa tea. But, if that’s the case then why are they here? I’m sure it would be easy to go into their homes and sit and watch them and criticize things they did.

I understand all the criticism you are getting with calling these "poor man meals" however I think people aren't looking at what the reality of these costs are, no one is going out to eat for less than $4 a person (even in the USA let alone Canada) which is what all these meals are. Plus all this food is good for you. I think if you put some sort of price in your title it would draw less criticism. I do really like all the inspiration myself.
You’re comparing homemade food to take out food. Take out food is ALWAYS expensive. You can’t compare it to that. We’re talking about her choosing expensive proteins and calling it “poor man’s food”. You can easily use chicken drumsticks or canned tuna as a cheap source of protein. The title is misleading.
Hate to break it to you but there are a lot of people out here feeding a family of 5 on $3 or less per meal. It’s not easy, and it’s not glamorous, but lots of families are doing it. No hate for this woman, but it’s obvious she has never actually struggled to feed her family before. Otherwise she NEVER would have called these poor man meals. Why not call this affordable meals instead of poor man's meals? A poor man wouldn't use the oven multiple times per week, avocado, cashew nuts, sesame oil, sushi rice or rice wine vinegar! I mean, baking 2 peppers in that huge oven has to cost a fortune!
“Poor man meals” is just to say budget friendly, it’s a hook. And people know how to make the super cheap rice and beans, ramen with egg, that kind of thing, this is supposed to be slightly elevated or unique but still cheap new ideas. I think people in general don’t need help thinking of the absolute cheapest thing they could make, they want help with budget friendly variety
Look, poor is a relative term. Poor food in Kenya is different to poor food in France. It just means relatively inexpensive for her in her situation. Everyone calm down.
Im solo parenting for a little bit while my partner is away.. here for the ideas as hes the one that makes dinner for us and im.like really i have to make dinner every day? 😅
What about veggies and fruit? I find that wanting to eat healthy with lots of fresh produce is actually the most expensive way to eat but I wouldn’t want to change that.
I live in a food desert (also a literal desert) and fruit and vegetables cost about 3-5x more. I don't have $15 for a tomato so I use frozen fruit and veg instead.

Were the chicken skewers grilled or oven broiled?
What kind of rice cooker is that? It looks like the bowl is stainless steel which I haven’t seen before.
