      You might be surprised. Samba does, in general come from a celebratory history-it was born through the emancipation of slaves in Brazil in the late 1800s after all!
      However, like much Brazilian music, there's a lot of samba with a strong melancholic undertone. For example, Malandro by Jorge Aragão, or Pra Vela Não Se Apagar from Samba de Vela

      I heard one of the original creators of bossa nova: antonio carlos jobim was inspired by the beautiful nature around him in brazil and he wanted to capture that beauty in his music.

      No kidding. Jobim, nara leao, and others i’ve yet to find have made some of the most beautiful music i’ve ever heard. Been deep diving lately for more like it.

    I was very impressed when I heard Baden Powell, Vinicius de Moraes and Tom Jobim at the first time. It is so difficult, being on another continent, to immerse yourself in such an extensive culture! Your videos and such lessons are just salvation. Thanks Gabriel, you are great! And your works as a composer, and a guitar player are no less impressive! Wish you all the best)

      As far as I'm concerned there isn't "traditional x

    Your playing is great. I heard Nelson Faria have a slightly different definition of Bossa. Starting as a soft & jazzy & indoors version of the Brazilian grooves in the 1960's. In that sense Bossa is a container for samba, baião, forro, afoxé etc played in a soft manner. Nelson Faria uses the same "claves" for bossa and samba as you do in his lectures as I understand it.

    Interesting. I tend to think of a surdo pumping away under a samba, but not so much for a bossa nova.

    • @GabrielSantiago
      @GabrielSantiago  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      the surdo is definitely not a big part of bossa nova since most of the times there's a drum set rather than a percussion ensemble. But the intention of placing the strong pull on beat 2 is still there, less intense but still there. Best, GS

    Não sei se você vem acompanhando, mas tem uma música do desenho Backyardigans chamada "Castaways" que tem sido um trend nas últimas semanas, e essa música tem uma batidade de Bossa Nova. O que eu acho engraçado é que os americanos juram de pé junto que a Bossa Nova é um "jazz brasileiro". Obviamente você entende mil vezes mais de música do que eu, mas não estaria a Bossa Nova mais próxima do Samba-Canção do que o Jazz em si?

    • @GabrielSantiago
      @GabrielSantiago  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      sim com certeza!! Bossa Nova é um galho de árvore do samba. Já ouvi pessoas se referindo a "Samba Bossa Nova". Como teve bastante entrada internacional, principalmente o sucesso aqui nos EUA e a inegável influência harmonica e "mood" do cool jazz, as pessoas aqui entendem como algo que veio do jazz. Mas visto pela nossa ótica, fica claro que é uma vertente que saiu do samba, com influências fortes do cool jazz americano. Não vi o desenho Backyardigans ainda, agora fiquei curioso pra ver. Abração!! GS
