  • ROBIN HOODS BAY near Whitby, North Yorkshire, England. A fantastic seaside holiday village with amazing beach and a great place for a walking tour or a day trip. We take a look around this beautiful travel and tourist destination for a special Gimbal Walk TV Virtual Walk from the seafront and beaches and up the hill to the famous Victoria Hotel (filming location for the movie Phantom Thread with Daniel Day Lewis)
The North Yorkshire Coast is amazing. It has breathtaking rugged scenery, cliffs that dominate your views, blue sea, beautiful beaches, and amazing pubs, hotels, bars and restaurants. Everything for the perfect summer holiday.
Nestled on the North Yorkshire coast, Robin Hood's Bay is a charming village that whispers tales of seafaring adventures and timeless beauty. Imagine a place where cobbled streets wind their way down to a sheltered bay, lined with colorful cottages that seem to tumble down the hillside. The salty air carries the cries of gulls and the rhythmic crash of waves against the rugged cliffs.
This wasn't always a haven for tourists. In its early days, Robin Hood's Bay, or "Bay Town" as the locals call it, thrived as a fishing village. Its narrow alleys, once bustling with fishermen and smugglers, now house quaint cafes, art galleries, and quirky shops selling locally-made crafts and Whitby jet jewelry.
Step away from the waterfront and explore the maze of streets, each bend revealing a new discovery. Perhaps you'll stumble upon the 18th-century chapel perched on a hill, offering panoramic views of the bay. Or maybe you'll find yourself drawn to the Captain Cook Memorial Museum, learning about the village's most famous son and his daring voyages.
Beyond the village, adventure awaits. Hike along the Cleveland Way, a national trail that hugs the coastline, offering breathtaking vistas of the sea and dramatic rock formations. For a closer look, descend the winding paths to the beach, where rock pools teem with life and fossils whisper stories of the earth's ancient past.
As the sun dips below the horizon, painting the sky in fiery hues, settle into a cozy pub and savor the warmth of a crackling fire. Listen to the locals' tales of bygone days, and let the rhythm of the waves lull you into a state of tranquility.
Robin Hood's Bay is more than just a picturesque village; it's an experience. It's a chance to step back in time, to breathe in the fresh sea air, and to connect with the essence of a place where history and nature intertwine. So, pack your walking boots, your sense of adventure, and prepare to be enchanted by this hidden gem on the Yorkshire coast.
Step onto Robin Hood's Bay Beach: Let the golden sand warm your toes and feel the gentle waves lap against your ankles. Build sandcastles with the kids, explore the teeming rock pools, or simply soak in the sun and the panoramic views along the Cleveland Way.
Wander through the heart of the Bay: Lose yourself in the labyrinthine alleys of the harbor. Quaint cottages in vibrant hues tumble down the hillside, each corner unveiling a new surprise. Cafes tempt with aromatic coffee, art galleries showcase local talent, and quirky shops beckon with Whitby jet treasures.
Chart a course with Captain Cook: Dive into the life and voyages of the village's most celebrated son at the Captain Cook Memorial Museum.
Seek serenity at St. Mary's Church: Ascend the hill and find solace in this 18th-century chapel.
Uncover Boggle Hole's secrets: Follow the steep path down to this hidden cove, a haven for adventurous souls.
Delve into the village's rich tapestry: The Robin Hood's Bay and Fylingdales Museum unveils the captivating history of the village and its surroundings.
Embrace the coastal path: Lace up your boots and embark on the Cleveland Way. This national trail hugs the coastline, offering breathtaking vistas of the sea, dramatic rock formations, and charming villages nestled along the way.
Explore Whitby's gothic charm: Take a day trip to the nearby town of Whitby. Wander through cobbled streets, explore the iconic abbey (remember, Dracula lurks!), savor fresh seafood in the harbor, or embark on a thrilling boat trip out to sea.
Journey into the North York Moors: Escape the village and venture into the vastness of the North York Moors National Park. Rolling hills, heather-clad moorland, and charming villages await. Hike, bike, or simply drive through this peaceful landscape, letting the tranquility wash over you.

I wrote a poem about East Yorkshire when visiting my sister. We went to Bempton Cliffs ,Robin Hoods Bay and Spurn Point. In my poem I say" Robin Hoods Bay was really lovely, its hidden behind a rise and once you reach the top of it, it a great surprise, like a table set to dine , with little houses all along a line " This was many moons ago. I live in South Africa. Before leaving the UK I lived in Hull. East Yorkshire is a beautiful county.

What a cozy little seatown. On my bucketlist. Not the easiest place to reach from where I live, but I hope to go there someday. Looks like a place to relax and enjoy life. I certainly hope you had the time to relax and have a good pint in the end 😊

Been to robin hoods bay loads of times with the children
coming from Middlesborough it is not that far , it's only about 35 miles (56km) Just under 1 hour to drive there. It was a nice place to go in the summer months. There's a large car park at the top and you walk down. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Very enjoyable video, I find your comments interesting and they add to the pleasure of viewing it. Thank you for taking it and posting. I visited Robin Hoods Bay about twelve years ago but sadly never walked down very far, fascinating to see so much more of it.

According to Google, Robin Hood apprehended some French pirates. Who had stolen from the village and he returned it .
So the people called it Robin Hood's Bay, after that.
But it hasn't been. proven that he was real or just fictional ??. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿
