The worst thing is when you and a group of people are trying to come up with an answer to a question, and no one takes your opinion into consideration because you don't give it as often.

This reminds me of work. People believed me to be depressed and antisocial because I'm quiet, but because I always had the best ideas, everyone comes to me. Unfortunately, because of my demeanor, I've been passed on two promotions. Instead, extroverted people with perky behavior have been elected. I trained them for their positions and both of them still come to me for ideas and help in their leadership roles. I took on the task of mimicking extroverted people at work so I might get a promotion. Sadly, now the higher ups think I'm weird. Just can't win.

introverts also have a tendency to desire an intelligent conversation with one or two people, (no more, because then it becomes a head ache) so if you ever want to talk to introvert, please approach with something worth thinking about. btw, im not mad, im thinking.

free00to00ryhme I'm an extrovert and I enjoy intelligent conversations and debate immensely. Most kids get mad when I use words such as intelligent or analytical. They tell me I'm too smart but I think people just use too small of words today. Lit, hella, shook... they just don't seem grammticaly correct. So people ever tell you that you say too big of words? I don't think I do.

@@gavinstarks2761 typical extrovert with your emotional knee jerk reaction to your predisposed assumption that something was directed against you specifically. Not sure where you went with that comment but big words isn’t a sign of intelligence on its own. Anyone can spend time learning new words in a dictionary that isn’t used by commoners. You must be in middle school or starting out in high school when you wrote that comment to think that intelligent and analytical are big, uncommon words. Please point out to me in my original comment where I made any insinuation that extroverts don’t enjoy meaningful conversation and debate. You looked way too deeply into my comment and your insecurities came bubbling to the surface. I admire your pursuit of a higher thinking mind, but you’ll always fall sort if you allow your emotions to overcome your forbearance and lead the articulation of your interpretations, precepts, and judgements.

Samuel RF That's not ADD. Lack of interests isn't a lack of attention which is what ADD is.. Attention Deficit Disorder. It's the inability to stay focused on one thing without your mind wondering to another.
I have ADD and it's been quite the struggle all my life. Our schools are catered to the children without ADD and therefore make us who have it, struggle and suffer with the idea we're 'too stupid' or 'lazy'. All false judgments, however, I've learned to live with it though and found myself a great career that allows me to be.. me =).

  • @Dowlphin

Based on this, I'd say introverts are good leaders for introverts, and extroverts are good leaders for extroverts. But it also means that extrovert leaders are good at keeping everything as it is and have an easy time doing that, while introverts are trying to improve things for everybody and have a difficult time. Basically the same dynamic that you get in all affairs of 'mediocre mainstream'.
This I-E distinction is becoming quite the explosive matter, because it implies that introversion is the smarter way which yields new insights and understanding necessary for envisioning and then shaping a better world.
Because of that: I realize the distinction is useful for illustration and clarification, but I prefer to see it not as an either-or, but as a scale. You're not so much looking at two different things as looking at the same concept from two sides.
Still, it seems I'm quite introverted, and that, combined with experience, also makes me see how extroverts tick. Apparently people often *allow* themselves to be easily distracted because they are afraid of looking inside, of listening to the inner voice/silence, because it is too painful for them. Not sure whether it's defining for the whole extreme of the scale, but extroverted behavior can be a desire for external distraction from internal issues.
Related to that, I also don't believe that saying about acoustically isolated chambers driving people crazy. I think this only happens to people who can't stand to be alone with themselves.
Bottom line: Yeah, I got awesome qualities, but in a very extroverted social environment it's usually not received well.

It's not that you're too weak to assert yourself, you're weak because you don't assert yourself. To find strength you must actually search for it, which requires effort. In time, given the opportunity, you'll find your bravery to assert your voice and lead based on the building blocks of reason as opposed to the flames of passion.

The short answer to that is yes because it describes me very well. :) Sometimes I'm very loud and I seem like an extrovert because I'll talk to everyone in the room and be a big part of the party. But after a day or 2 of going places with friends or being social I NEED some alone time with myself. (Like I even shut my family out of my brain.) That's when I'm reminded how much of an introvert I truly am because of how re-energized and focused I feel after being alone. Hope that helped. :)

I’m an introvert and I’ve owned my own business for 13-or more years. For me it’s like if I wanna get something done right , I gotta do it myself . And if something goes wrong the only person I can blame is myself. I take care of getting the whole product, bringing it back to the store , weighting/ bagging it everything up ,I’m the salesman, I’m the security guard, I’m the look out, etc. etc. I also have a little part time job at a pizza place, it’s easy anyone can do it, but my full time job, the 1st one .!its not a job for everyone one.scared money don’t make no money :) Beezy

As an introvert, I spend half of the school period shushing my friends and telling them to stay on task. I love anticipating the future, and I am not so well at group tasks. I always like to go solo, and I share my ideas with those who can understand the ideas (I am 5 grades above my grade level), because most people think I'm boring. I also enforce diplomacy, and I have sent letters to the President about ideas to solve issues in the American society. I accept and recognize my "introvertiness"!

[2/2] My advice: take care of yourself at camp. Extroverted activity can be really draining for someone who's more introverted. Don't necessarily avoid the group activities, but get some serious alone time each day - maybe to start and end each day - to recharge, so to speak. Read, journal, pray, nap, whatever you need to do. Know yourself and take care of yourself. That's my advice. From one introvert to another. :)

Being an introvert really does makes me feel to strive on focusing one thing at a time, but also it makes me feel distracted. That's why I usually get away from being into social groups and start living in my solitude. And motivations are essential too like hearing music and other things.

It's been said that being "shy" isn't actually the same thing as been in introvert. An introvert isn't fearful of social situations, but they feel drained by them. An extrovert on the other hand feels energized by social interaction. A shy person feels anxiety about social interactions. It's actually possible to be an extrovert and shy (from what I've heard) which obviously causes significant problems.

I'm confused, I like the crowds, I prefer being at a busy cafe rather than a solitary one, I prefer going to a busy club instead of a quiet one, I enjoy being around people, talking to people.... but when it comes to work, I don't like people, I hate interruptions, I much prefer emails rather than talking to people sitting very close to me, I prefer to work on my very own without interruptions, being extremely focused on my things to do.... I've always been a thinker, I love being with myself and when going out I often prefer to be on my own, even when I go out with a group of friends, I go my own directions.....when on the road I see someone I know and if I find it possible I avoid the greeting, is there a test to take?

Amy Tat I'm guessing it's correct that I might be a bit of an ambivert, although I love the idea of being an introvert and I feel mostly identified as such.
Yes, at the cafe or club... good question to serve as an example... I like meeting and interacting with a lot of people but at the same time I tend to keep it rather short and look around for ways of escape when I get stuck with people who are too good at talking, unless of course I feel interested in the topic...
Yes I like watching around and thinking but I also love being funny when I'm comfortable and making people laugh, I'm sometimes good at that.
Depending on the situation yes, I would stick to the small group in the busy atmosphere but I guess I prefer variety and being on my own wandering around is awesome.

Introverts think better in less stimulated environments. This is one of the things that define an introvert (i.e the ability to work in environments where there isnt much on going around). But once we are in these environments (quiet places), we are in distraction free zone. Distractions (such as facebook/ imgur/ texts from friends) are much easier to ignore. At least thats how it is for me :)

I am very much introvert and easily distracted, unless I am genuinely interested in whatever I'm working on. The goal needs to be useful for me, inherently, or I won't care enough. But if I do, then certainly, I can work very hard, for hours on end. Of course, it does help if I am interested in something.

Being an Introvert doesn't necessarily mean you think before you speak, it just means your logical or analytical. Speaking before you think doesn't mean your an extrovert either. In the long run it comes down to, are you smart or are you not smart about your daily life. I personally believe I am an extrovert. I talk too much , very social, and share my opinion (When appropriate if appropriate) often.
However, I think alot about things. I constantly seek to find holes in my arguments so I can fill them and if I can't then I conclude that it's simply not solid. I'm currently studying how to be better leader which as you can imagine is what lead me here. My mom says its useless knowledge since I'm only in middles school yet I find alot of what she says to be infactual and since decided she's most likely a very arrogant person. Back on topic, I believe introverts are great leaders but being outspoken or under spoken doesn't really matter when it comes to thinking logically. It just depends on experiences. Snobby people tend to think they are always right where as someone with knowledge understands they can be wrong and like to hear the argument on why. Not because your and extrovert or introvert.
P.s. This video kinda makes extroverts sound unitelligent. . .

I don't know about that. When I get focused, you could call my name for a minute or two, but I won't notice you.
However, it is simplistic to use this thinking paradigm of people as either introvert or extrovert. We all have some combination of the two "pure" personality types. You can be a strong introvert or a strong extrovert, but you can also be that happy medium of being only slight more introverted/extroverted than extroverted/introverted.

The secret answer is that it doesn't matter. It's a spectrum and you don't have to worry about which one you are most. People just like to lump people into categories for convenience but if you want to really understand yourself or others, lumping yourself and/or others into rigid groups is not the way to go. I speak from experience.

I know that feeling, extra-vert people are more likely to judge on the outside or judge too quickly. This causes bullying and not being accepted in the group. As an introvert I can tell that it's really hard to work with people who do not plan things, and I'm almost always ending up making a project my self. But yeah I know what you mean.

Continued, who normally judge them based on how well they can get the job done and accomplish whatever it is they're trying to do.
Also, Introverts tend to think more about different ideas and possibilities etc. where-as an extrovert would be using that energy to make small talk with whomever they're with. Introverts would be imagining different situations and thinking about what they would do in those instances.
They are more able to do different things and cope with them unlike -Cont.

I assume you, the voice here, are an extrovert. You seem to be yelling a lot while you are talking about things that don't require yelling. You remind me of an eulogist at a funeral I attended some years ago. He yelled one sentence and whispered the next for the entire eulogy. I suppose someone told him that modulation of voice kept people interested and attentive. I would've left, but you can't walk out of a funeral.

You'd be surprised how varied introverts could be. I know of a few, myself included that act as typically described ah, introverts; shy, quiet, mostly polite, alone. Once you get past the stage of being strangers, you move on to half strangers, then potential friends, then maybe friendship. Through that time you can witness a dramatic change in that person, especially and even mostly if you're alone with them, they can becomes silly, crude, outstanding comedians, or just moderately different than they usually are, say, "more open with you"
AND SO MY POINT BEING: Being an introvert, sometimes a lot of pent up tension makes you react ..differently than what would be usually accepted at certain things, example being if you witness and exceptionally idiotic debate and want to step in with logic but can't. She could be doing that here, being comfortable in her environment and finally expressing that emotion. We're not all necessarily soft spoken at these times.
And to sum it up: She is a possible ambivert.

I agree. Thinking time especially is bad for me more often than not, because if I get too much time to think, I can't stop thinking, then I forget what I was trying to think about in the first place, but then I've drained myself mentally from so much thinking that I have to take a nap or something. xD
At the same time, most of my best thoughts and ideas do surface when I think things through, so...double edged sword I suppose.

While some of us may see ourselves fitting in to the introvert category, I don't believe anyone is 100% introverted. Yep it's absolutely difficult for intros in an extro world and that's why it's important for us (introverts) to seek to achieve a balance where we can relate (as draining, uninteresting, or painful as it might be for us) to the extroverts
Rensome of the posts below, guys, try to find something in the experience that you can learn from to improve yourselves. Think about it deeply, as we intros are brilliant at doing. And win because you became a better person from these unfair experiences

They not only can, they all do! I would consider myself 90% introvert and 10% extrovert. One year ago I would have said 100% introvert. But everyone has personality traits of both sides. Somewhen, somewhere even the shyest person will mumble some words and try to build social connections. I mean, we all have to do that at some point. And I've come to the point where I can enjoy the moments where my extrovert side can release all the energy my introvert self has saved. I can be fun :-)

  • @LiveandExplore

Yeah, likewise. There are quite a few extroverts who are very smart. Infact, one of my childhood friends is an extrovert but he's an Ace student..
But, the problem was that all he did was memorize everything and 'Mug' up everything from whatever source we studied from.
In that manner, due to the terrible school system, he would get the top grades while the others who actually analyzed the question scrambled for the 2nd or 3rd place.
THing is, Introverts think far more often.
