Still - in 2021, this video captures exactly what you need to know to make sense out of Scarbee Funk Guitarist. I've referred to video several times already. Many thanks!
After owning Komplete Ultimate 9 for well over a year, I had given up on EVER figuring out how to use this plug in -- after watching the first 3 minutes of your video, I learned more than I ever did with the manual. Thanks for posting!!!
Thank you so much! I had great confusion and frustration trying to use this plugin that I too for several years didn't bother using it. I have watch several tutorials on this and was still confused. I decided to give it another shot and came across your video. You were the best at explaining this in the simplest way.
Thanks Mark, I too was trying to figure out how to do this, and like a lot of people, I picked it up a lot faster watching the video as to reading the manual- This makes it all worth while and worth the money! I can now lay down decent guitar rhythm tracks on my own when my guitar player is not available. Thanks a lot!
This is probably the best TUT I've seen so far on how to use this "Funk Guitarist" software. For me, it had many buffering problems around 1:29 minutes into viewing, even after reloading it several times. My other uTube Videos loaded just fine. Also, it's a really short TUT at only 8:52 minutes. It would have been much better if it was twice as long as it is. But all-in-all, it's the best TUT on using this software.
This video is a godsend. I also had SFG and no idea how to tap into its potential. Thank you so much for posting this. Sometimes reading the manual is just harder to grasp the concept of what to do if you're a visual learner. Not everyone learns with the same learning style. Some are visual, others are tactile, aural, etc...
Mark, this tutorial saved me from never using what I thought would be and is an amazing tool. Native Instruments refers to what you're doing as 'Automatic chord detection' which in the manual is nowhere to be found. I'm an arranger and I need to be able to use specific voicings for the comping in my tracks. I've had Rob Papen's 'Rhythm Guitar Synth' for years but it's so limited in what it can do I've only been able to use it 3 times in all that time. Happy to see that this feature actually works, and then you show how to edit the grooves. I had no idea that you can change every little aspect with the groove's performance. Long, short, upstroke, downstroke, muting (and much more), being able to custom change anything in the groove patterns amazes me. If I didn't come across this video I'd be in the dark with what this tool can do. This kind of tutorial is what I usually pay for. I usually buy Cubase Video Tutorials from MacPro Video and LYNDA.com. If you have a website let me know so I can buy something, or at least donate something for the valuable knowledge I've gotten from your video. Kudos and thanks!Bobby Ryan.
thanks, I am glad the video helped you. I was excited to get this software but it was not clear how to actually apply it to a song. I occasionally have to refer back to this video myself.
good under the bonnet...few if any tutorials have gone there....a real captain kirk. watched before heading out ...returned and immediately got into the tutorial again and had no problem expanding my use of this software which for a few years had really remained dormant....getting inside the editor and composing chords that i want is truly a useful application...this tutorial goes a long way to helping people find real applications for this software.
Wow, same comments here. I have the plugin, and it sounded really good. But there were essential features that I simply could not figure out. Just for the stop key and the midi mapping alone, bloody awesome video buddy. Thanks so much! Thank you fx1mark!
I had a job to do today that would really benefit from Scarbee Funk Guitarist, which i own as part of Komplete but i had NO idea how to use it. If there is an actual tutorial on the NI website i couldn't find it. You really saved my bacon and i can't think you enough for your generous post
What a lot of people forget when they have all this Komplete stuff is that it all comes with a manual? Did you read the SFG PDF? It's actually pretty informative. I went from not knowing a single thing about how to get this to work, to knowing enough to put a pretty good track down in my DAW.
funk guitarist's tempo is controlled by the tempo of your daw. I normally work with drum software which also is controlled by the tempo of the daw and the two are synced. the problem is when you are trying to match funk guitarists tempo with an audio track. the audio tracks tempo is not controlled by the daw. most modern daws have a way to determine the tempo of a recorded track or you can just turn on your metronome and adjust the metronome to the tempo of the song. hope this helps.
hI MARK GREAT VIDEO I HAVE A QUESTION FOR U CAN U PLAY THE ScABEE FUNK GUITARIST WITH A KEYBROAD ?? THANKS FOR YOUR ADVICE I WOULD LIKE TO USE THE SCARBEE FUNK GUITARIST FOR MY ORIGINAL SONGS BUT I DONT PLAY GUITAR I PLAY KEYBROADS THANKS FOR YOUR ANSWER ABOUT THAT AND ADVICE ALL THE BEST MIKE
Just bought this, and while i think this video is awesome, I'm having a hard time figuring out how to make the groove adjust to whatever TEMPO my song is. I can't find any info in the manual or website. Do you know anything about this?
you need slave your computer to your workstation and you need funk guitarist in a daw so that it can sync externally, and you need a midi interface on your computer. this is as far as i know. funk guitarist is really meant to be run inside a daw. It will run standalone only because it is running inside of kontakt. if you need a daw, check out reaper.
thanks for posting this video. I had almost given up on this plugin after owning it for years. However, I think this video also exposed the flaws in this plugin. It is too much work. It should work more like Guitar Strum. It should read what you play and add the strum pattern. Because that would make sense! Sigh...I hope the programmers go back to the drawing board and do another version.
your tutorial helped a lot on me working with scarbee guitar but I followed your method of getting chord selections but it doesn't work for me. what do you mean your going to PC ?
For whatever reason when I press "REC" while in the "MIDI" section of the "MAP" area I can hear the rhode piano playing but the chords don't show up in the list.
I tried it to coz I wanted to find F Augmented... so I played F, F,A,C# .. it showed up as Db chord... which is wrong. I played all notes together, so that might be why your chord didnt show. I think its something that might need to be fixed in an upgrade.
It is included in Komplete 9 Ultimate, but unfortunately not in the core Komplete 9. www.native-instruments.com/en/products/komplete/bundles/komplete-9-ultimate/k9-vs-k9u/

This video is approaching its 10th anniversary. .. yet completely relevant today. Thanks dude!
Deserves my like. I gave up on this plugin for so long until you explained it.

Much easier seeing this than clicking and trying to read the manual. Thanks man.
Awesome just what I needed thanks
I finally found the [STOP] button for it thanks to your video. Very helpful all round too! Some features I didn't know existed. Thanks.
Quite refreshing explanation, thank you
Excellent, pedagogic and hands-on tutorial. Thank you!
Thanks Mark,

Dude. I've had this thing forever and had no idea how to use it. Thanks for making such a clear and concise tutorial! Subscribed!!!

thanks Steve, I actually have to refer to my own video if I haven't used this plugin in a while.
PS: I couldn't find where to 'stop' the loop from playing. Thanks for showing that B2 is the stop key.Bobby Ryan.
very helpful video . SFG is a bit tricky to get to grips with I'm finding. thanks very much for this

Thank you so much for this video...I was beginning to think i had wasted my money on this plugin.
Thank you for this video, just bought the Scarbee guitar funk" didn't know how to use it, this really helped me get started. Thanks again.
Great tutorial. I understood the manual, but I wish I had seen this video first.
Really helpful tutorial ... thanks for posting
11 years after this video gets published, I finally realize there's a MIDI tab in the chords map section...
Better late than never... :D
This video is a godsend. I also had SFG and no idea how to tap into its potential. Thank you so much for posting this.
Great vid, excellent teaching!
Any chance you could make more videos?

Hi Mark, Thank you for the free tutorial. How do we save the edited grooves?
Brilliant thanks for taking time to teach us :)
Just bought this, and while i think this video is awesome, I'm having a hard time figuring out how to make the groove adjust to whatever TEMPO my song is. I can't find any info in the manual or website. Do you know anything about this?
Thank you, this was really helpful!
Thanks so much for the video. One question: Is it possible to use other rhythm than 4/4 too (like 3/4 6/8 7/8 etc)
glad it helped. I am a big fan of this software.
Amazing explanation many thanks
Really nice job on explaining things ! :-)

this helps. It helps a lot :D such a confusing tool in itself.
Thank you so much for this video.
Thank you fx1mark, the manual is a PITA in contrast your video fantastic. :)

what if your using it as a stand alone application? I have my Keyboard workstation internal sequencer connected to Funk Guitarist by midi.....
Ohhh !! so that's how U use it !!! Thanks !!!!
Hello, is this used for guitar or synth?
thx a bunch mate - thats a very useful plugin! thumbs up)
Great video. Thank you :-)
Thanks for the helpful video!
Thanks!!!!!!
really easy instruction
your tutorial helped a lot on me working with scarbee guitar but I followed your method of getting chord selections but it doesn't work for me. what do you mean your going to PC ?
if you are using a pc, hold down the alt button and click on the mapped key to display the chord selections available for that chord.
Thanks for your help man.
For whatever reason when I press "REC" while in the "MIDI" section of the "MAP" area I can hear the rhode piano playing but the chords don't show up in the list.
I don't know the answer to that. try contacting native instruments support.
fx1mark I have. Been waiting a full week for a reply from them.
I tried it to coz I wanted to find F Augmented... so I played F, F,A,C# .. it showed up as Db chord... which is wrong. I played all notes together, so that might be why your chord didnt show. I think its something that might need to be fixed in an upgrade.
also, after pressing REC, playing the chord, press REC again and do not press Automap
Thanks a lot!
Glad I could help.
Thanks
Anybody know how to find/edit/change tempo of this plug in though?
Tempo is controlled by your daw. It will play at the tempo set in your daw and follow any tempo changes your daw makes.
Thank you
Thank you sir 😂🙏
thanks !
thank you!!
no problem!
Does anyone know if this plugin is included if I buy Komplete 9?
It is included in Komplete 9 Ultimate, but unfortunately not in the core Komplete 9. www.native-instruments.com/en/products/komplete/bundles/komplete-9-ultimate/k9-vs-k9u/
HOW CAN WE ARRANGE THE TEMPO OF THE GUITAR WITH THE SONG? I AM WRITING BACKING TRACKS AND RHYTHM GUITAR'S ADAPTATION IS TERRIBLE
I haven't tried changing tempo myself but just convert each piece to audio at the tempo you need and then insert the audio clips as needed.
why can't you do single notes? only chords?
This was a great video however this funk guitarist crap is a pain and more trouble than its worth lol!
I believe a REAL musician would just go out and buy a REAL guitar ;)
Because a friend had a copy and I was helping him use it by watching these videos and realized it sucked lol!
Thats cool! Maybe you can do a video as well and make people like me start to like it more! lol!
me sirvio
it's triggered with a keyboard.
THANK YOU
