      Robert, will you be offering your boards for sale again? I went to your Tindie page to order one and they appear to be sold out for a long time. Feel free to reach out to me directly as my contact details are on my channel about page.

    Your machine isn't seeing the XT-IDE BIOS. You need to run the SETUPHX program to set the machine to boot from it, I think the option is "DISK". It looks like its still set to boot from the built in ROM, but your floppy boot disk is overriding it in this case. When its working you'll see options at the top of the screen to boot from FDD, HDD, COM, and something else in turquoise/green, and give more info on the BIOS and the "disks" connected to it.
    Also, I'm pretty sure the UART drives the serial port, the schematic shows it with a 232 prefix.

    • @bbishoppcm
      @bbishoppcm  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks. I just learned I loaded the BIOS file into RAM, not the EEPROM, but thats another issue. I haven’t ran SETUPHX as I am still waiting for the CF to IDE adapter and still want to boot from ROM for the time being.

    • @knightcrusader
      @knightcrusader 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bbishoppcm It looks like you selected Flash to EEPROM, so you should have flashed it correctly. It should be good to go now once you get your CF adapter.

    • @bbishoppcm
      @bbishoppcm  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@knightcrusader nah, Rob Krenicki saw the video and noticed I forgot to change the address to C000, which sends the file straight to RAM. It’s fixed, just had to reflash it. Once I have the CF adapter installed, I’ll finish it up by switching it to boot off the CF card w/ DOS 3.11 or maybe 5.

    Like you noted, if you have a Tandy 1000 EX or HX without 640KB, you NEED this. If you do have a PLUS memory card already, there are other alternatives, but if you are good with one serial port, this is the way to go (I wanted two serial ports and a parallel port for a Xircom Pocket Ethernet III, so I went a different route, but had to sacrifice the upper memory provided by Robert's card on account of it.. that said, I still have one of these cards just in case I ever need it!!)

    I booted DOS 3.? from a 3-1/2 inch disk. Upgrading using 3rd-party devices proved to be somewhat expensive so I later began building my own machines.

    I kinda want a HX/EX. I've already got a 286-based TL/2, but you don't see many PCs with that Commodore/Apple-style "wedge" form factor. Kinda makes it stand out.

    • @knightcrusader
      @knightcrusader 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      For real... its a form factor that needs to come back, even if its just for enthusiasts. I mean, you can make it have a mechanical keyboard and an ITX mount on the inside, let the person build it the way they want it.

    I should order color ribbon for my Citizen GSX-230. I need to work on my soldering since I have to replace the VRM on my Gigabyte board since it locks up at the memory count or because the idiot me forgot to install a second RAM stick.

    Personally, I would leave DOS alone. Also, I don't know if it is a standard DOS, but DOS 2 supports hard disks, at least the standard Dos 2. But it's fat 12, not fat 16, which limits it to 32MB. But 32MB is more than enough for an 1000HX or EX.
    But if I were going to "upgrade" the Dos, the newest version I would use is 5. Dos 5 was the best Dos, especially for older machines.

    • @bbishoppcm
      @bbishoppcm  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not sure what the purpose of this comment was - but it is happily running DOS 5 off a CF card now. Runs better than ever before, and is now compatible with even more software!

    • @tarstarkusz
      @tarstarkusz 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bbishoppcm Well, if you were going to "upgrade" Dos, 5 is by far the best choice other than 3.3 (for this machine)
      The reason I posted that is a lot of people believe (incorrectly) that they should put whatever the newest version of the software is available and that this is somehow "better" (in very unspecific ways) and of course, has no downsides.
      I posted it early in the video. But after watching a while, you seemed more sensible than most.
