One thing I found fascinating by reading Darwin's Descent of Man was that even without any fossil hominids older than Neanderthal, he tentatively concluded that human origins probably traced back to Africa, because it has the most living apes.

The Races of Man (1925) by AC Haddon
And even a University Society publication by Richard Swann Lull called “Fossils: What they tell us about plants and animals of the past” in 1935 including pictures and comparisons to other hominids.

All those exclamations about the recognition and Royal Society membership for the original finder of the bones and all - that would only apply if the person in question were a man. If it were a woman, no record of her part in it would be preserved and the findings would be ascribed to sb from the natural history museum she'd have reported her discovery to. Mary Anning had a lot of similar experiences throughout her life with the scientific community of her day and age. Men of the contemporary science scene had used her achievements, knowledge and fruits of her labor to build their careers on, without ever crediting her for her work.

Great topic, great info, but a terrible format. A transcript with picture would have been just as informative, and would take me less than half the time to read compared to the speed the script's being read at. And since you basically get it sentence by sentence, you can't read each paragraph and skip ahead. Others my prefer it this way, certainly the visually impaired, but would it be too much to ask for a text version to also be included, for those like me? The format makes it unfinishable, for me, and too bad.
