An amazing review - thank you so much! 😄 Platformers are such a timeless genre and VR really does bring them to life. We look forward to seeing heaps more players experience it with Max Mustard!
Great review Jammy. Looking forward to playing this. From your footage, it appears that at times your controllers are represented on screen, but they look like stylised Quest controllers. If this is so, it's a shame that Toast didn't go the extra mile and replace them with something that looks like a Sense Controller. Not a deal-breaker, by any means. Will still be buying this day one.
Glad to hear it's a great port! I sometimes need something cheerful and lighthearted to break up all the dread and fright stuff i usually play in VR, and this looks perfect for that! I loved Astrobot Rescue Mission so it's a no-brainer in that regard. Got Max already in preorder so i'm ready to go!
This game is TONS of fun. Still on level 3 and died 8 times (I suck) but yep - you want to just keep playing. For those of us who are a bit older and never played Astrobot, this is very reminiscent of Super Mario Bros. So for me at least, there's a bit of nostalgia that makes it fun too.
Great review! Been looking forward to this... It baffles me, why the New Astro bot couldn't be in VR and flat screen. And for that reason, I avoided Astro bot at launch. No doubt at some point I will give that game a go... But more than happy to with Max from the start, which is why I am fully supporting this game, and will be there from day 1.
it's still a fantastic game. don't fall out of love with flat screen games. this new astro bot is just as good if not better than its psvr1 cousin. def give it a go.
@@agentshillbot : Wouldn't it have been nice... to have the option to do both. it feels, like Sony are being cheap. I would have been happy if they said, VR Update coming in 2025.
Astrobot was not designed in a way that would have used VR the way Rescue Mission did. That game used VR to the max. We need another game designed that way, Astrobot would not compare to Rescue Mission as a VR game.
VR game dev is hard. Max Mustard devs wrote on Reddit that 50% of their development budget was spent on VR optimizations. Meaning they got the game running with all the content, at 20 FPS, And needed twice as long after that in order to get it running well enough to ship. This was 15 people, over the course of 4 years, so 2 years worth of optimization.
Even when I was playing on the cv1, before we had proper motion controls, i didn't really understand the point of these games in VR. Still hope it does well obviously.
The point is: VR MAKES EVERYTHING BETTER! Personally, I love 3rd person stuff like this in VR. Moss, Preta, Ghost Giant, Astrobot - even Bloody Zombies was loads of fun - but if they're not your cup of tea, that's fine. The more variety in VR gaming, the better, imo.
Looks like it has copied a bunch of ideas from other platformers. Not seeing anything original. Good for kids who have not seen this type of thing a hundred times before over the years.

Lovely game to relax to.
Supporting this day 1 so devs can do more of this type of vr games
Wish more VR gamers had this mindset. They wondwr why VR is niche, but won't spend more than $10 on a game.
Can't wait to play it.

you’re correct with that yeah, the controllers look like quest style ones with PSN buttons. Thanks for the kind words!

Think Ven which has been out much longer fills the gap and an underrated game, love it
Astro Bot shaped hole in the hearts of PSVR2 players…that hits deep

Even if AstroBot had VR I'd prefer to play it flat.

Sounds cool..does it have a hard mode?
Keeping fingers crossed for a retail release although not sure if I'll have the self control to wait lol
Played it on quest, found the camera frustrating and decided it's not for me.
How does it compare to the quest version? Would you buy if you already owned on quest?
same gameplay wise, but with better visuals and haptics. if you’re happy with quest, then stick to it!
@@Jammyhero Thanks Jammy. Great video as usual
Anybody know is this an easy game to platinum?? Also very good review 👍🏻
