Well Kirk I was very impressed with the roll over action during the wash cycle for such an overloaded load, However the final spin was a downer for me!!! The constant refilling of water to tray an redistribute the load can really put a strain on your water bill Believe me I know!!! when I had my LG washer it did the same exact thing, constantly refilling with water to try and balance the load and all it did was send my water bill through the roof!!! why can't these companies make an automatic shut off if the load becomes off balanced instead of wasting all of that water to try and fix it automatically??? It would save a hell of a lot of water which the government is always complaining about with these machines not to mention the wear and tear on the machine itself!!! I don't care what anyone says, all of this constant banging is going to result in some kind of a major repair down the road or explode like my LG did!!! Hey Kirk Thanks for the video and you have a great weekend...
Robert couldn’t have said it better myself you hit the nail on the head! And I agree with you what’s wrong with having a buzzer and a shut off. I think it’s because this generation wants to open the lid on the washer take the clothes out put them in the dryer and be done with it and God forbid they should come back and find that the clothes were not rinsed because the washer banged against the side and didn’t finish the cycle.
@@LlyleHunter Bruce my Lg used 40 gallons on the Bulky cycle for wash, went off balance filled 40 gallons more, went off balance again filled 40 more gallons, finally spun and then went into the rinse cycle for another 40 gallons!!! all toll it took 160 gallons of water to wash 7 pair of jeans and the reason I know this because I kept watching the water meter to see how much it took for each fill!!! After getting my water bill in, That machine took the deep 6!!!
@@petermaz701 Peter when I had my Kenmore belt drive washer back in 1980, Anytime a load became off balanced a buzzer would sound and shut the machine down simple as that!!! A real easy fix, push in knob, open lid, rearrange load, pull knob out, all fixed and not using all this additional water that these machines use today... For the life of me I can't see where these kinds of machines are saving any water can you???
Robert Przybylowicz we had a Kenmore as well and I did exactly the same thing it would buzz and stop when we got the Maytag it would stop but it didn’t buzz. When we got the GE would bang in bang in bang but you heard the banging all the way upstairs
I've very surprised at the agitator dogs skipping so much and the wild out of balance spin before it shut off! Of course if they would fill the darn thing FULL of water... this is where I'd have a few buckets on hand and add the water myself or see if the water pressure switch can be manually adjusted. But obviously in fairness, the machine was overloaded. If I had to go to a TL, this is still my top choice. Oh and Kirk, lol, I do remember the days when the washer would go out of balance and shut itself off and the buzzer would go until you pulled the dial OUT to stop it, then rearranged the clothes and then pushed the dial IN to start it. I don't know why we always ran to the washer when it did that, like it was going to exploded in 10 second if we didn't get there to pull the dial out. lol. Oh, the good old days. Thanks for the great vid.
Thank you so much for your washing machine videos. I have been agonizing over a purchase for weeks. Your overload videos helped me decide on the Maytag commercial machine. Was really torn between this model and the GE with agitator and water level selection. The deciding factor was when I saw the GE struggle and the maytag turn over the same exact clothes and with less capacity. Would have gladly purchased from you if I were in your area. Bought from a local family owned business.
It definitely sounded like the motor was straining with this overloaded load. However it did manage to turn over several times, I definitely wouldn’t recommend people doing this because you would be cutting down on the lifecycle of this washer. I truly feel that this could not stand the abuse the Speed Queen can. This definitely does not have commercial grade suspension its banging away just like the lower-priced GE’s.
@petermazbabie, This is the reason why " modern " belt-driven washing machines (except for the transmission driven Speed Queen TC5000WN) are unreliable and can't handle unbalanced or very large loads like how old-school belt-driven/direct drive and modern direct drive washing machines can. The lower priced GE washers all have belt drive motors, the one that my family had was the GTW490 model, and due to the belt-drive motor, we couldn't ever really use the deep fill option, because the motor or belt guard or whatever would almost always make contact with the floor, causing a VERY loud and aggravating grinding noise, then after one last load where we washed some sheets, it kept banging and banging and tried to refill two times, so we immediately returned it in exchange for a MUCH better higher-end GE washer. The lower end models (once again) doesn't have dynamic balancing technology or a direct drive motor, which makes them even more susceptible to not being able to withstand unbalanced loads. Yes there's the auto-balancing suspension on all of the GE washers, but the belt-driven models nerfs the auto-balancing suspension, I kid you not. To make a long story short, if you want a high-quality washing machine, get either a 2019 TC5000WN Speed Queen {or a pre-2018 Speed Queen} or a old-school belt drive washer, or a old-school or modern direct drive washing machine, mainly from GE, Whirlpool, Kenmore, Montgomery Wards/Norge, and Magic-Chef (if you can find a old-school Magic-Chef washing machine). Hope this helps some buyers out there that's looking for a good and reliable washing machine👍. Stay safe, God Bless, and GodSpeed😎🙏⭐.
Lol. Look at the difference between the agitator of this machine versus the agitator of a Speed Queen. The reason a Speed Queen lasts longer is because the agitator barely does anything. The agitator on a Speed Queen doesn't turn the clothes over nearly as much as this one does. However, I do totally agree with you about the suspension. A commercial grade machine should have much tougher suspension. It's very hard to throw a Speed Queen out of balance. I will give them that
I love these types of videos Kirk. When you’re done with this series could you fit in a small load for direct drives? I like how it rips the clothes through the water but I love this series.
Wow I'm surprised that motor sounded like it wanted to shut off at the beginning but it managed to turn over the load really well definitely wouldn't do this on a daily basis though
This Maytag supposedly was designed for commercial type usage (laundromats etc). In that type of service, abuse like this (overloading) happens quite often. I personally witnessed on one occasion, a young couple cram so many clothes into a toploader the lid would not close...so the ""man"" started forcing and packing the clothes down by pounding and shoving..All to save a dollar...This machine is ok, but it won't survive too long in a really busy commercial environment. It's too flimsy!
Mike Bennett On the rare occasion that I go to a laundromat to wash a large thick queen size comforter I am mortified by what I see. I cannot believe how they mix clothes how they stuff the machine to the top and have to literally push the door to lock it just unbelievable. Thank God I don’t have to go to a laundromat nor would I ever go into a place where I couldn’t have my own washer and dryer.
I love these overload tests. People, what do you expect when you put twice the amount of clothes that's supposed to be in there? Of course it's going to go out of balance and of course it's going to strain the motor. It's like when you're constipated and the turd is three times the size of your butthole...Don't be so picky! I do agree however that they should shut down if they go out of balance more than once.
I feel the normal impeller top loaders do better in some ways. These with agitators just push clothes down and slightly move it. The impeller ones cause clothes to rub against itself and other clothes. I feel that is more effective washing. The LG 21kg top loaders wash amazing.
Agitator does more than impeller i suggest not to buy an washing machine with a dual action and you will see the agitator just like a wings like this one and also avoid buying an agitator washing machine that the agitator is just like a rod its just a placebo effect since the rod mades it like agitator even its really an impeller only
Can anyone explain to me how this machine is any more water efficient than my old Whirlpool direct drives were? Those machines in my houses and my mom’s house were such work horses and lasted so long. They also spray rinsed between wash and rinse cycles. So much better than this.
I’m with you Bruce. God bless the vintage washers we grew up with. This washer will never stand for the years of service that were given by the older washers. These are plastic those were metal.
I finally had to replace my last one in one of my buildings a few months ago. It killed me to do it. It served six families for twenty nine years and I delighted in rebuilding it but its structure rusted away. I couldn’t replace it with a front loading Speed Queen which I did with the rest because the room didn’t have the swing space for the door on a front loader so I bought a top loading Speed Queen pair. It’s really nice. So quiet in comparison and the tub is so smooth. I car polish them.
Bruce Solomon I used to car polish some of the portables that I picked up to play with and test out, really makes them smooth and clean. I don’t do this anymore because my back was starting to go so I had to put an end to all my picking up and reconditioning. Now I’m down to my one Toploader and one front loader.
Just got ours today. We were experiencing a strange noise and when we lifted the lid the cycle stopped completely and shut down the washer. That's crazy
I have an old Samsung top load washer, I just filmed it with the same load. I hate to say it but it handled the load with no obvious problem. The video should post later tonight.

I’ve heard that some “he” top loaders on a full load can use up to eighty gallons of water if unbalanced. Progress not!

This washer doesn't have a transmission. It's using a gearbox instead.

If the washers could talk to us what would they say
