4K Stelvio Pass Scenic Drive | Bormio to Prato Allo Stelvio, Italy

Stelvio Pass (2,757m / 9,045 ft) is a famous pass in northern Italy near the border of Switzerland.
The drive starts at Bormio, located southwest of Stelvio Pass, and goes up to Stelvio Pass.
The ascent is calm and idyllic, whereas the descent offers magnificent views of Mt. Ortles and thrilling hairpin curves.

My wife and I did this trip on May 23, 2017, two days after the roads had opened for the season. Many feet of snow still along the roadsides at the higher elevations. We noted that each of the switchbacks (around 36 on each side of the pass) are numbered, I presume to help rescuers locate the victims. The views from the top are astonishing - one of the great road trips in the world.

ステルヴィオ東側ダウンヒルは車窓だと最高ですね。車なら西側ヒルクライムが迫力ある。ロードバイクだと逆が面白い。ジロで残雪どころか雪だらけの中でのチマコッピ通過とかたまらん。
