I thought the same and so I went and looked again, but that’s not what happened. He picked it up with his right hand (with Index finger and thumb) and then dropped it into his palm. That’s how got cut.
It's called a piano forte as it means soft and loud. Prior to the invention of the piano they only had harpsichords which you needed to use a lever in order to change the volume. However the on the piano you could change the volume with the strike of your fingers. Over time the it just became Piano.
The cut on Colins palm happened because he picked the glass up like you pick up coins. You take it with two fingers and then you drop it in your palm, that’s how he did.
Estates make their money mainly by renting out farms and businesses. Some also took a slice of profits. Some ran their own farms etc but the wages would be small. Likewise estates rented out homes and cottages, so wages paid out would be returned via rents for homes etc. Plus the family would normally have money already, often from investments in large businesses or endeavours across the empire.

Sometimes happens even during second and third kisses 😅 Btw, Nicola (Pen) was told by the director that she didn't kiss awkwardly enough and looked like she had experience. So you are right on the money there ;)

Part of the issue here is that, unlike in previous seasons, the lovers actually know each other very well for years beforehand and have stayed close right through, so it feels fast even though it's actually painfully slow. The other couples went from perfect strangers to "I burn for you" and "object of all my desires in a couple of months. Polin have been unconsciously courting since before she was even out of the school room, let alone in her first season like Daphne. That's part of the rom-com. He's been hers since before he could shave. But he didn't realize that because he was thinking that love had to be sudden fireworks with a new person like Anthony, not slowly intwining vines like his parents. Once he kisses her, that's when he finally gets it that he was meant to be with her all along. That's why none of his other romantic or sexual encounters really fulfills or satisfies him. They don't feel right because he is a one woman man who already has his woman subconsciously picked out. The rest of these 3 seasons has been getting him ready for that love. So, he skips right over courting her formally and goes straight to marrying the woman. So, in a way, he was prophetic. He "would never court Penelope Featherington. Not in (their) wildest dreams..." We will soon learn that this statement is both prophetic and hilarious. Just wait until you meet Colin "my wife" Bridgerton. AKA Mr. Whistledown. I really hope they write him well going forward. Some of the changes from book to show have been problematic for him and Penelope. They really needed more episodes this season to flesh out what's going on. Also, I recommend re-watching these or one of the many compilation vids from fans. Other fans have noted that it's easier to see the progression of the love story if you consider it right from season 1 through to now.

It's the premise of the show lol in regency era marriage is apparently a business transaction, lords and ladies marry off their children to other lords and ladies to strengthen their family ties/standing in society, that's why we have the story of the Bridgertons, the anomaly in the Ton lol with each sibling's love match/story.
Not just regency. It’s very common for years. Lucy and Ricky slept in separate beds in the same room on TV. Sleeping together is for marital relations. In Downton, there’s a Lord/Lady bedchamber. He keeps the bed made to pretend they sleep in separate rooms. But I think that’s to cater to a modern audience. It’s also in cases that the technical Lady of the house may not be married to the Lord. Maybe it’s Mom or another female relative.
Yeah, it's a wealth/status thing--only POORS have to SHARE a room! In the grandest households, the lord and lady of the house would have separate suites or even entire wings of rooms for their personal use, including entertaining guests and attending to matters of business in their own rooms. (Not the bed chambers, specifically, of course, but like their own studies or less formal sitting rooms.) The actual bedroom layouts were usually designed to have connected dressing rooms so the spouses could easily go back and forth at night or in the morning without the fuss of going through a hallway in a state of undress. Or lock the connecting doors between the rooms if things are Frosty between the couple.
The debate re how Colin cut his hand was fun. I really felt for Pen this episode her own mum basically told her it was ridiculous to think she would get married. Pen at the end felt she had no hope for a match and it was actually brave to ask for what she wants for a change (the kiss). Colin however seeemed quite affected by it

A harpsichord's strings are plucked, versus a piano's strings are struck by hammers. Pianoforte is the Italian term for soft-loud in music, and described the dynamic range a person could create depending on how light or heavy they pressed the keys. Harpsichords didn't have this capability. :)
I don't think the large Estates were taxed very much at this time. If you watch Downtown Abby there is a season where the family is in financial trouble because of New taxes on the Estate.

This is how we get Mr. Collins in “Pride and Prejudice” being next in line, despite being a cousin barely known to the family. Austen’s life herself changed dramatically after her Dad died. She and older sister Cassandra were unmarried. Women didn’t get enough. In “Sense and Sensibility,” a reasonable dowry might be a few thousand pounds for 1 woman. 4 women are suddenly expected to make do with £500 a year. They can’t even keep 1 horse. Mom in that story grew up on a big estate. Poor 19 year old Elena is charged with managing them all. “Sense.” The answer should be that their 1/2 brother could at least give them a better allowance, or even let them stay on the huge Norland estate, but his wife is the issue. Her family has plenty, and she pretends it’ll bankrupt them. Land is incredibly valuable at this point. It doesn’t start changing really until the industrial revolution in about 30-40 years. Austen’s prime is within the Georgian era, (King George) from about 1795-1817. She unfortunately dies young at 41 from Addison’s disease. Industry starts changing around 1830 if I’m not mistaken. George’s brother William takes over for 7 years, then his niece, Victoria is crowned in 1837. She barely avoids a regency as they tried to manipulate when she “came of age.”

I think what happened when Colin cut his hand is that he was trying to gather the pieces of glass, but he was flustered and angry, probably a bit embarrassed too. So he's got a piece in his palm, and he closes his hand in distraction, and then we know what happens. Yes it's stupid, we all know it, and he does too. But people can do stupid things for any number of reasons, including when they're talking to someone they have some kind of feelings for, even if they're not aware of that just yet.

They had a window tax. You were taxed on each window. Also you were taxed for owning horses and dogs were taxed and for every male servant you had.

I think they only take recommendations from patreon... I do not think that they take recommendations from TH-cam comments, unfortunately. I absolutely LOVE that show though and I really really hope that more people here on TH-cam react to it! It's so good!

But I definitely remember them mentioning that they've been recommended stuff off of patreon a COUPLE of different times prior to them making their own website. I suppose they just switched to getting recommendations off of their website directly after they made it. Idk. Thanks for this correction! 😊
